To the thread title : that’s what she said.
Yeah it seems to me the stock stick has a lot of play before the switches are triggered, where as a sanwa JLF has very little movement before the switches are triggered.
I have been using an HRAP stick with a PS2->PS3 adapter. I now have a custom stick coming in a couple days that will be a direct PS3 connection!
I’ve always thought that the adapter may have added lag or screwed up the inputs a little bit, so this would be an interesting test! I’m quite excited.

Big difference right? I was thinking of selling my Sanwa stick later to my friend, I think a Seimitsu stick would be perfect for Viper because of the shorter shaft. Buttons seem a little slow now that I play more often but not used to a stick yet so I’m getting a cramped wrist…?
i actually play on a ls32 and after going to the arcade and playing on the jlf i actually think im going to switch, i just like the feel of the JLF better, it feels alot more smoother and easier to hit then my LS-32, but then again its all about preference.
big difference.
If I play for a few hours non stop i’ll get a little pain in the middle of my palm… no fun.
It made a huge different for me, especially once I dropped an octo gate into my stick. Some people I’ve seen don’t mind a square gate for Viper Magus1234 being one of them, but personally I can’t roll the burning kick from a seismo without it.
One of the problems I’m having with a stick is that I can do :qcb: easily but I have the hardest time doing :qcf:, especially :qcf::qcf:. I think my problem is that I have such long arms, I’m 6’4". I use the wine glass grip, is there a better grip for me, or maybe there’s another solution?
Try getting a bat top for your Sanwa stick to see if that gets you a better grip on the stick. Since you have big hands it may be more ideal to just hold a stick like an American. I use a ball top Sanwa but I put my index and middle finger around the stick towards the top similar to how I would hold an American. I tried the Daigo style wine cup method and that stuff doesn’t work for me. I don’t mind using a bat top Sanwa at all though. Feels pretty natural since I don’t have small Japanese hands either. I tried using Viper on a hard spring US stick one time though and good lord that felt like hell on earth. I didn’t even try insta burn kicks…I couldn’t even do straight up burn kicks. Japanese parts for Viper all the way.
My stick is actually a Hori EX2
I have a fightpad and a SE stick, and im a G1 Viper and ive used the fightpad the whole way. When i use the stick i jump constantly, and im not nearly fast enough with her ultra motion. With the pad i can do it in an instant, and in fact sometimes it comes out a little too fast! But the one move i flub sometimes and know i could do it better with a stick is following up a seismo with burning kick.
First post for me, hello everyone. It sounds like my newly purchased Hori Real Arcade Pro EX will improve my Viper play a lot. Let’s hope arcade shock gets it into the mail sometime soon. I ordered it last friday and it’s supposedly 3 day priority mail. My days of getting beat by jump in fk to sweep scrubs are over :lame:
My TE stick should be coming in soon… I’ve been playing Abel since console release on a 360 controller (even used him in tourney
), and I can do all the bnb combos and 1-frame links consistently (eg. f+MKxxdash, FPxxCoD, FADC, cr.fp, ultra), but I’m actually more interested in playing Viper. I tried her out on a pad and lost hope in that idea really quick, so I’m waiting on my stick to come in before I really try to get good with her. I’m a little worried about having to re-learn everything on a stick (last time I used a stick was like 10 years ago), so I was wondering if I should try to re-learn Abel on a stick first or just get right into using Viper.
Not exactly the easiest question to answer I know, but perhaps there’s someone around with a similar background/experience.

When i got my stick, which was a little over a month ago, i had NO idea of how to use it. It was basically my first time using a stick. I couldn’t even shoryuken -> FADC -> Ultra with Ryu. I didn’t even try to use viper because i was so terrible with it. But once about 2 weeks after i sorta got the hang of it but i still needed alot of practice. So then, i decided to use viper. Which was a pretty good idea because im still learning how to use the stick, and learning as viper as i went along. You don’t have to relearn everything, you just have to learn the tricks on the stick to improve your execution, learning the shortcut motions, and well as getting used to it.
So i suggest you “re-learn” Abel so you can get used to the stick. Don’t get discouraged though, i already know vipers FFF and pretty much all her combos after a month of using the stick.
Yes, I couldn’t play Viper for SHIT on a pad, I switch over teven a shitty stick (EX2) and I can play her considerably better.
With an SE stick you have no choice to get the parts replaced after 2 months because the buttons stop working and the stick will stop recognizing down.
I modded mine with a sanwa stick a month ago and there is a huge difference.
The SE stock stick makes it a lot harder to do quarter rotates than the sanwa stick. The SE stick gate’s corners are not rounded and you have to press your stick right in the corner to get diagonal motions to register. Also the SE stick is kind of short and stiff as well.
The sanwa buttons are about the same except they don’t break.

I am a pad Viper player. I need to get a Stick but I have no money ATM.I know a stick would be alot better though.
I am ok with Viper on pad but that is only because I have alot of experience with Pad and I can perform fast motions with it. A stick would makes things alot easier though.
So, I hate to pull a thread back from the dead (somewhat so at least), but could people recommend places to buy sticks cheap, or as cheap as possible, I realise that good ones are probably going to cost me a pretty penny. I have read the thread and I’ll go back over it and check out the sites and places that people have mentioned, but there has been a lot of mention of modding sticks and buttons, though I’m far too scared to take things apart so I’d like to buy it so I don’t have to start fiddling with it/ it won’t break 2 weeks out of the box.
Also, could someone give me an idea if this is any good for a first buy?
Killed off my SE buttons and stick last night. I just placed an order for sanwa stick and buttons, will the difference be extremely noticeable?
I’ve always used crummy sticks and buttons mainly due to hand me downs from friends.
Should be pretty noticeable yeah. Sanwa’s are gdlk.
