Well, Judgement day approaches. I just got to Tokyo yesterday after a week in Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima. The good news is, there are arcades everywhere here, like, no matter where you are, there’s an arcade 7 minutes away from you. The bad news is, I’m not used to a stick so I still suck
(Not that not playing SF4 for like 3 weeks before coming over helped). But I’ve definitely fallen in love with the arcade stick feel. I looked for an arcade stick in Akihabara last night but all I found was a PS2/3/PC USB stick, and they said they had no sticks at all for the 360. But, AKihabara is a big place so I still have more searching to do!
Wow, didn’t think it was possible but I got the hand of every technical aspect of Viper on a pad (Exception: Mutli-Rapid Feints) and let me tell you, it is wickedly insane to watch my fingers on camera (I recorded my self because I wanted to see XD).
I just need to get the hang of mindgames and spacing and I’ll be set to being awesome at my locals.
Everyone’s convincing me to go on a stick but I said “nah it’s ok I’m all good, besides I can do everything.”
The most annoying was figuring out how to instant BK consistently and how to FFF into EX Seismo and I finally cracked them like a rifle butt on a peanut.
Absolutely not. I personally think whether its controller or pad, if you can play her, then you can play her

It’s not as bad as some of you are saying, although I still say go ahead and get a stick or at least a fightpad for our lovely lady.
A stick is almost a must with viper…its helps with her and all characters really… stick = good =D
Thanks. Yeah that was right after the game came out and I was using a radio shack controller to play my old PS1 stick on PS3. Now I’m using the same stick I used at Final Round again cuz my briefcase stick died on me. The stick randomly shorted out and the 360 PCB died and random buttons on the Chthulu (PS3) PCB stopped working. I think it had something to do with the resistors on the 360 triggers. If they’re not at the right wattage or whatever it messes up the controls. So I just opted to have them taken off and hopefully I’ll get it back in working order by the end of the month.
You dont need an arcade stick to play with viper. I’ve play viper on controller using the analog. Its perfect for buffering and its a cheat because l1 is all you need to cancel. Well anyone who knows viper well you know controller is valuable

I finally made the switch from pad to stick but doing sj bk is kinda weird. I just hit d, uf, qcb on pad but on stick it feels like I’m doing a 360 :wonder:
It helps to over exagerate the bk motion… 2963214 or 2932147. Sometimes i’ll miss either down or back and she just jumps up and knees the face, which is better than nothing at all i guess.

I’ve seen those numbers a lot and never quite understood what they mean? I know they must be direction inputs but…
Those are direction inputs, look at your keyboard’s numpad.
That’s funny; I always found the opposite true, for myself. If you can train yourself to go from 9 back to 2, you should be able to increase your speed and thus lower your trajectory. Of course, a stick in general should be increasing your speed. It does take some training, though. Good luck!
Hitting back is my only inconsistency with this move, certainly. =\ I’m chalking it up to my poor stick for now, as I find I’m far better on my local peeps equipment. God, only a few more days now, I think…
I thought hitting back was my only problem too, until I looked at my inputs in training mode…

alright, I just got my stick monday, and it has been a. frigging. nightmare. I’ve been playing pad until now and people have been complimenting me on my prowess with it. Hitting FFF, HP -Seismo - BK - Ultra, rapid feints, everything np. Then I got my stick and I was all “Alright dude, you know this is gonna hurt, you need time to adjust. Don’t get frustrated” AND MY GOD AM I FRUSTRATED. I can do feint shenanigans and FFF combo’s np. Basically her Thunder Knuckle game I have no problem with, but her BK game has been a nightmare. Then I came to check this thread and found out that more people are having trouble with instant sj bk which makes me feel a little better, but not getting out such an important cornerstone of her game consistenly seriously makes me want to cry sometimes
It’s going to suck for a really, really long time. My stick Viper is no where near as consistent as my PS3 pad Viper.
This is so true. I just got out of the wtf I can’t cr.mp xx mp tk stage. Im now trying to bring feints back into my game. low low times but it will be worth it. Insta burn kick is so much easier on the stick and if feels like thats just the beginning. Ive now got twice as many tools - just need to learn how to use them.
Definitely keep at it, I still have problems doing certain stuff, like qcf x2 on the left side still gives me problems lol, I cant ex seismo SJC FADC out and do my ultra ever on the left side… I need to practice the qcf motion.
Other than that, everything seems to be gravy now, I’m finally getting my fp HP TK feints into my mixups now. Muscle memory!! O_O
Ahh yeah see man I was having issues with sjc burning kicks with my somewhat newly acquired JLF stick (Square gate). I thought the entire time I was having issues hitting back or down, as it turns out I was doing the motion for the burning kick far too lightly. I was doing the motion so light that i was completely missing downback on both sides of the screen. My input commands were looking like :d::l: and :d::r: which just seemed ridiculous to me at first. Like how can you miss the diagonal?

Like I said earlier, I just got a TE stick recently and right now I’ve just resigned myself to practicing my stick execution an hour a day or so, while continuing to play online with pad. Trying to seriously play matches with stick is just too frustrating atm. My main problem right now with stick is the instant sj bk. I keep the missing the b portion of the qcb. I can hit it semi consistently on the p1 side but p2 side is a nightmare. Even Ex seismo - SJ BK is hard for me on p2 (should be easier imho due to buffering). FFF into seismo is actually surprisingly easy on stick for me and even TK pressure with regular feinting and all that i can get out consistenly. Just the bk… and my game relies pretty heavily on it too. I like mixing up my cross up options, and without isjbk it’s just a no go
