Dhalsim - YOGUH!

Help. I have to face Baklakiller in my pool play. As everyone knows he mains Zangief. Many of you are probably thinking, that should be cake. Well if he is no average Gief player. And he has pretty much owned me the last few times we played.

I know I should have a much easier time zoning him out but I am having a difficult time doing so. Any pointers before my match tonight?

This is why you’ve been kicking so much butt lately… getting the advise of your fellow Sim players… very smart… very smart. It obviously paid off with that win over Thelo last night. Well done sir. Well done.

You coming to the Iowa tourney in November? If you do I can show you some Sim stuff

Sweet, while you’ve improved greatly, I notice that you don’t seem to use your super still when you’re cornered. I would suggest building that up as fast as you can, and it’ll pretty much shut down Gief’s inside game if he eventually gets in.

Where at in Iowa man? I would love to play some offline tourneys.

Thanks man and thanks for believing in me. That’s interesting you mention that. That’s definitely one thing I will try tonight. I agree I need to practice getting the super off in the corner though a little more too when cornered.

Thanks man. It was definitely epic for me. Probably not so much for Thelo but for me it was. I have to attribute the league play in me getting better. Definitely some tough competititors in there. And you betcha I am going to ask my fellow yoga bretheren for pointers. :wgrin:

It is old news to many of you. But here is write up on the power of the LP.

Quick notes. Know your main anti airs.

LP, back + LP, CR. + LP. Given the right spacing these will beat every jump in. Most Giefs jump in with the MK Knees. If close enough each of these will beat it clean. Check the post above of the hit boxes.

Don’t be afraid to us a quick standing MK/HK as soon as he jumps. This keeps him “honest.” It prevents the jumping whiff RH (just out side the AA LP range) > bear grab maneuver.

If you score a knock down, DON"T drill over and wake up flame. I see tons of Sim do this. They flame and push out. It is much better to build your super first. If you knock him down, stay where you are, or move back a bit if you have to, and get 2-3 quick up flames before he gets up. Unless you get a knock down while he is in there air, getting more than 2 will be tricky.

Don’t drill. Ever. At least not yet. There are some very cool set ups, but they really are not wroth the risk.

Many Giefs like to double jump, if they manage to jump over a fireball and are still out of range, they jump again as soon as they hit the ground. Watch for this. I see many Giefs kill more Sims with this than anything else.

Anyway that is good for now, I will see if I can think of anything else during the day.

Darth Simicus likes.

Nice Sim write up. I was practicing the crouching jab vs Blanka and I had it beat his various jump ins half the time, trading a quarter time and sometimes he’d get me (my own fault). Again, loving that yoganoogie blog haha…

In Des Moines, less than 2 hours from Omaha.

TFunk’s going, so is Austin (tsukihimeblood here on srk) and a couple smash guys who play other 2d fighters too. Do you go to Family Fun on Dodge? If so tell those cats they need to come out too since I haven’t seen them since SF4 first came out (like Mario, Jamar, Kieth etc).

Fatboy also needs to fly out to this.

To add to Fatboy’s great info, there’s one other thing to watch for. Really good giefs will punish you if you are even slightly predictable with your pokes. They’ll use the new lariat on wakeup and will throw out random cr.HK or other attacks from full screen. If any of these catch your pokes, expect him to close in on you fast. So, to handle this:

  • Don’t throw out pokes at the most obvious times.

  • Throw less pokes, and add in fake close attacks (back + MK, etc)

  • If you see Gief whiff a crouching HK, you can hit him with far cr.MP during his recovery. But only do this if you’re sure you’ll hit him.

poison needs to play me more so I can take all of grog’s money

does anyone use teleport as a wake up reversal against meaty attacks like EVER?

my friend plays mostly dhalsim and he insists its impossible.

i HHS his wakeup at every chance and he cant get over it(play to win, ha!!!).

its classified as a reversal but I’ve seriously never seen anyone do it.

(im assuming its just really difficult, or maybe dhalsim’s hitbox comes back before he teleports away?)

Dhalsim’s Reversal Teleport is glitched. It will not travel to another location, but will reappear in the same spot. If it’s done as a non reversal, yes it’s useful, but against tick 360s or meaty fireballs, it’s useless.

Umm… It’s not impossible. I don’t remember who I was facing but I was playing Cammy and I went to super for the win on block damage thinking you couldn’t do teleport on wake up and no joke, he teleported, I wiffed and he won. I don’t know if it was ACTUALLY a reversal but I was already half way through my drill when he teleported away.

Probably me. hahahahahaha But seriously though the teleport reversal works it just depends on where you are at on the screen. If you are in the corner I am 99.99% sure you will teleport right in the same spot. If you near the corner but not quite there you do teleport elsewhere. You are better off trying for the super as opposed to the teleport. Also moves like the spd and ochio throw are tough to reverse with the teleport. You probably could teleport anywhere where there is a gap in animation. Say Dee Jay’s super, Honda’s super. I havent tried that but I might just have to.

Just wanted to thank you guys for the advice. It paid off. I basically made it so he had to jump at me. There were definite mind games. I will post vids once Thelo gets them up. And speaking of Thelo. I did some serious rookie mistakes that prevented me from winning my series. I’m getting much better with the matchup but man there is little room for error.

Thanks again my yoga bretheren.

vs thelo, 4:08 of the first set was when you threw it away i think, sweet.

you seemed to have good momentum then you tried to slide tick honda it looked like instead of just backing off and zoning him(this coming from a honda player, heh).

then again thelo still could have won even if, but nice matches tho!

I feel like a proud parent…

We’ve done good JV, we’ve done good. :pleased:
