Question:

I know YT avoids most of Rogs dash punches, but in this video:

@3:07 - Iyo Towers and Rog’s Dash Upper whiffs and Iyo punishes with b.mk.
I thought his upper would knock Sim out of tower? or in this instance is his Upper just out of range?

Tower and slides seem to be infinitely advantageous to Sim in this matchup. What about ex dashes? Does YT avoid the overhead (dash slam)?

sorry I’m still super newbie G2 player atm.

Didn’t look like a tower think looked like a range thing. Rog was just barely too far away.

It is absolutely one of the more rewarding moments to throw a Rog out of an oncoming punch attack. For those who aren’t used to it — go to practice mode, and set Rog to do a TAP or an EX dash punch and get your timing down. Takes a lotta practice, but you’ll notice yourself doing it w/o even thinking after a while.

I noticed something iyo did in that match Nomadic posted.

iyo did a short slide outside of slide range, boxer dashpunshed into it and iyo comboed into super. this he probably didn’t confirm, I think you should be able to do the slide and do the super motion (including pressing a punch button) and on whiff, you won’t get a super and on hit (and block, but he’s doing it outside of slide range so it doesn’t matter) you’ll supercancle the slide.

don’t take my word for this, I haven’t tested it. I’ll try to get some testing done later, or could someone else confirm?

I’ve been using it, especially on rush-happy balrogs. Works fine. And even if he blocks, you’ll do the slide from such a distance that when he blocks it, it’s too late to cancel into super anyway, so it will only super cancel if he actually does a rush punch

thanks lollaff. I also tried it out a little in training mode yesterday.

it’s worth mentioning that this kind of doesn’t work vs the overhead dash punch (at least the EX one) because balrogs hitbox seem to move back a whole lot so you have to slide very late. if you whiff the slide you should still have time to block tough

no mather how good you are, balrog will always rape yoga-shit

I just discovered something…
Balrog is no longer invincible during Buffalo headbutt. I noticed in Ranked match, I stuffed a head butt with a slide, and don’t recall that ever happening in vanilla.

In training I recorded Balrog headbutting. My MK slide beats his headbutt on start up, but it will tag me if I slide to early and am in recovery. Have not tested against EX.

good to know, should test it vs yoga snipe too. If it stuffs his headbutt at the end of sim’s blockstring that is huge.

Yeah after the MK > LP flame you are in trouble at that range. They just have to wait and see what you do. Headbutt if you jump, they dash or ex dash if you back dash or teleport back, and if you slide in you get raped with crouching jab to combo. If nothing happens they can safely dash punch and get in again.

Usually I try lk to mp push them back but headbutt and ex dash punch I think wins.

Edit:
It definitely looks like Balrogs Buffalo Headbutt has been seriously nerfed. Now to get through a Yoga Catastrophe, he has to time his EX just perfectly to go through it, right before it hits him, no longer can do it with it with it a foot away.

I found df. strong to be a safer poke instead of mk. slide if you anticipate a headbutt, because you still don’t want to get closer to him.

I tested rog’s EX head but and the Slide and long range medium punch goes through but no longer tags you, so it looks like they adjusted the hitbox for the Headbutt.

Shangrila can punish blocked Turnpunch level 2 or upper, all blocked overhead punched and all other blocked medium/fierce punches.

Headbutt always lost to low attacks.Meaty crouching kicks almost always killed it.

Nice…

yeah, don’t get carried away with tho, ex headbutt still punishes lows.

I seriously got much trouble against TURN PUNCH, most of time i try to hk/mk slide. But that make me come close to him if i miss.

vs Balrog

I tried using u2 against him when he dash punch, but always whiff. So i stick with U1. Any tips?

U2 is definitly godlike in this match… You wiffed it tomle? Remember it has 7 active frames, which covers all of balrogs active frames on his rush punches (almost): This means you can do the ultra as early as you want! You see him rush/turn punch, throw the ultra out and he will slide into it! You can jump back all day without being affraid of ex rushpunches (Even though you teleported away from those nicely).

Use crouching light and medium punch more, and if you suspect he will turn punch your fireball, just delay your poke. I can preach about the match up all day, but I suck at it too, so I need to do a lot of match up work myself!

Ya sometime i jump back and he dash punch, I tried U2 but everytime he pass under me. Maybe i did it too early? Need more pratice in training mode.

Against turn punch, i tried delay my attack with down+forward MP, but i got hit everytime. What attack u using against that move?

why? can you explain please.

They are fast low pokes that will stuff a lot of what he is doing from pretty far away! When you aint got him at full fierce sitance, they are good because they let you recover faster if balrog jumps at you. you can even do 2x crouching light punch at a ex rush punch i think!

wtf… really? I cant wait go home and test this on training mode! thanks.

I’m so late in recognizing this.

I don’t seem to have much of a problem blocking Balrogs blockstrings and I can keep him out pretty well for the most part. The biggest problem with this match-up is that you can’t screw up once when he has ultra ><. The fact that jab-jab-short-headbutt into ultra can send you from the far end of one side of the stage to the other end puts you in an easy corner position, which you really can’t escape from. It’s not necessarily the damage (though it is quite damaging). Light kick slide is not safe at all on block and I don’t really know what other options Dhalsim has at close-range that isn’t punishable on block (mainly when Balrog has ex meter).

Teleport shenanigans on wake-up end up backfiring because you try IATing behind him, only to end up right in front of him with your back facing him for some reason. But I guess this really isn’t an option.
