At this point near end of round 1 FC does ex fireball FADC into teleport. I heard arturo talking about this in his interview with Gootecks. Is SUper, is this still considered a popular tactic (FADC the yoga fires)? I don’t understand the benefit of this because the forward dash seems a little slow, i dont really see how it helps the mixup any different from just throwing out an lp yoga fire/ex yoga fire and just IAT without FADC… can someone explain?
This is just another setup for Sim. It uses a lot of meter but puts the opponent into an uncomfortable place. The EX fireball creates some serious blockstun allowing Sim to more safely choose options once he teleports. It also mixes up the timing of the teleport. The fireball / teleport mixup relies on varying teleportation timings to work. If the opponent simply had to block the opposite direction every time then it would never work. Depending on the moment that the Sim player teleports the fireball will hit front OR back. Your goal as the Sim player is to vary the timing or at the very least time the teleport in a way that you change sides right before or right AFTER the fireball hits the opponent. Having different setups creates more guess work for the opponent. The more guessing and gambling the opponent has to do the better for Sim. The EX fireball is more safe than the standard fireball since it provides the cover of more block stun, so that’s another advantage for Sim.
still a little confused. I know that sometimes you can teleport behind them late (ppp tele) and the block stun from fire will push them past you so that you are attacking in front of them. However, I mean can’t u just do (kkk tele) if you want that effect? If that is more high level mind games i think i get what you are saying i.e. you teleport behind them so they expect to block the other way, but u attack when u are in front of them so its a mixup?
And also, why does he FADC it? I can maybe see backdash in order to build the artificial corner, but even then I’m not too sure… unless he’s doing it so that he can start a mix up much earlier than when the fireball will hit but in those cases, doesn’t the opponent auto block the fireball after he’s hit with the j fp, b+mk yoga flame block string?
Super late responding to this, but I’m more inclined to agree now. I’m calling it dead even. Despite the grueling matches these play out to be, I enjoy them a lot (call me a masochist I guess). Spot on re: exceptions to the norm (either when sim lands BNB into super / guile is able to do damage through well-timed entries).

All those matches Arturo & Dieminion played a month or so ago shows just about the best of each character and I can’t see how it is anything other than 5-5, or 5.5 in favor of Guile. His reduced Sonic Boom charge time and quick recovery means it is the one fireball war that Sim doesn’t win by default, and Sonic Hurricane basically negates Catastrophe and also gives him a nice option to chip you to death if necessary. Shangri-La is viable in this matchup but it can be very hard to find the opening to use it if the Guile is above average.
Now I’m no Art, but I’ve been running some long sessions w/ Lamerboi lately, and every single match is a grinding war of attrition since Guile’s defense is so damn good. Almost every round comes down to the final seconds like the Art/Dieminion matches, because a good Guile is so hard to do damage to, especially for Sim. If it’s not a long ass round it’s shortened only because Sim was able to land a combo into super or he made a few mistakes and got the shit stomped out of him by a couple Guile combos.
YouTube - The Break Weekly #60 - W5 - Arturo VS Dieminion <<< This vid has it all; the last second rounds, the quick rounds from making a couple mistakes, Hurricane negating Catastrophe, the frustration of trying to do damage as Sim, etc. I hadn’t watched this since it happened live, but I just can’t see this matchup being in Sim’s favor at all."
Hey saty… long time no see dude…
great post. I completely agree with you. I rarely fight a high level guile but I can see how he could be a nightmare in the right hands. For the most part… every guile matchup comes down to time outs for me.
@ arturo… i sent you a message awhile back looking for some games dude… i don’t know if your down for some sim mirrors but i would love to play. i always play first to 10 or 5. I won a few tournies in the cleveland area and I am becoming heavily involved in the offline scene.
Getting knocked out of Evo losers bracket by a pixel or two
Dumb! I know better (uhh teleport high, then jab). Or just a low poke. How else would you have ended this? Stop teleporting so much Mound! Also, sleep deprivation and your pool starting at 9am might have contributed.
was a good night for sim, art taking 1st at guard
perfect sin getting 3rd in maryland
what i found fun to watch was perfect sin counterpicking steve H’s fei with gief. I couple of us talked about gief as a sim alt.
sims bad matchups:
abel
viper
fei
rufus
cammy
not only are all those matchups 6-4 for gief (cept viper which is a playable 5-5) bun inherently it makes sense. Sim falls to rushdown, gief beats rushdown.
Also (and this is no offense to psin) but his gief looked very solid and fundamentally sound, but not that advance which is a comforting thing. AA lariot and jab jab s.lk ex GH seems to be enough with solid footsies to be able to beat up some of the bad matches (and the SPD OS against abel probably doesnt hurt)
Tomorrow, Saturday July 24th at NOON central time I’m going to be running the live stream for the USA National SBO Qualifier for Super Turbo. Many of the best players in the country will compete in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo to win a bunch of money which will enable them to fly to Japan and compete in SBO.
We will also be streaming Super Street Fighter 4 Singles and Doubles tournaments in which I’ll be competing. I’ve won 3 out of 5 of the last Game Galaxy tournaments. The competition is stiff and it will be tougher with all of those great ST players who may choose to compete as well.
My doubles team name will be Negrology 101. My teammate is a Dictator player named Negro Justice.
hey guys i recently went to a tourney (my first!) with my cousin to try out my 'sim. I was destroyed by a great player named Min.

Heres the video of the match. i was wondering if you guys could give me some feedback and some tips/criticism so I can improve, thanks.
Ps. i had lots of fun, tho i wish i stayed longer to see Aturo play his 'sim!
