First of all, Dhalsim’s s.FP and j.FP are definitely more powerful.
Also, U2 vs Akuma is handy in at least this situation: If Akuma does a jump in fireball and if you have time to get off the ground you can do an instant air U2 and the invulnerability gets you through the fireball(s) and the long active time hits Akuma when he hits the ground.
my favorite usage of baiting Akuma with U1 is to do it when he’s near a corner — he’ll naturally assume you’re going to follow it up with a fp or cr.lp, etc — and to avoid chip damage or overhead shenanigans, he’ll often teleport away. This is when I instantly start walking backwards (towards where he will stop after teleporting), and b.mk+flame(+super if available) once he is out of the teleport, or just yoga noogie, or use any applicable punish. It works more often than you think, though he’ll clearly wise up if you try it repeatedly.
I know I am doing a lot of stupid stuff against this akuma, but would like critic from you guys, so I might spot something less obvious that I should be doing differently:) First of all, I know I need to improve my execution and hit that bnb each time. I know I shouldn’t teleport in without a fireball on the screen (and even then be careful when I do it). I should stop doing stupid mistakes like getting hit by emty demon flips and fireballs that should be avoided easily:P
Well you pretty much know your flaws, you just need to hold back those urges to random unsafe tele bnb attempts and using fireballs at an unsafe ranges. Sometimes I notice others do itand do it myself on occasion, but you can actually catch people who jump back sometimes with IAT b.HK as opposed to always going into IAT with j.FP. Maybe throw in more useful pokes like standing short,mp,mk etc, just to throw off their game. Sometimes they catch unto your Yoga snipers too, so I like to (and read LuckyD does the same) but will slide to close in on them and c.FP since good players assume the snipe and block high.
You scored a back throw, threw a fireball, and then backdashed. What that does is tell who you’re playing that you have no interest in attacking. Against akuma it’s scary to go for IAT setups I know but at least you should move forward so you can catch them if they jump out of it.
Other wise not bad, you just need the work that you already know you need.
Thanks for the input guys! I should deffinitly vary batween instant overhead and c.HP:) Also, as you say Spun, I need tu utilize more of my pokes and not abuse the standing fierce as I get punnished for it:)
About the backthrow into backdash… i think you got me there… That’s stuff I should try to avoid entirely! I must have thought he was going to teleport that way, but still no excuse:P
I was wondering… Are you guys doing: backthrow-> fireball ->short slide-> fierce to hit the opponent before the fire hits in case he jumps? I read about ppl being worried about the fierce not being able to reach the opponent after a backthrow in SSF4, but I tried a few times in the match, and it didnt reach in sf4:O
Gonna participate in ESWC Brazilian’s Qualifier tomorrow and someone prolly gonna record and put the macthes on youtube so maybe monday u’ll see some stuff from me here.
Wish me luck!
even though dhalsim is fading in my rearview mirror now I always like watching IYO play. His style is so effortless and his execution so flawless that you forget just how hard it is to do what he is doing. It’s almost like he gets to play a special version of Dhalsim that only he has. Viper is easily one of my worst matchups when I play against her as Dhalsim and he makes one of the best Vipers in the world look foolish. Could you imagine the mayhem he would visit upon Japan if he played a top tier character. IYOZILLA is wrecking TOKYO!
Hey SimSim, try to lk slide under fireballs more often. It really helps to stay in range for other pokes besides st.hp and you can react much faster to what your opponent is about to do. Plus, it can help to control how many fireballs your opponent is willing to throw because when you lk slide under a fireball, it’s still on screen and if they try and throw another one, a normal attack will come out instead and you can punish. Try to keep a good mix of YT, focus absorb, and lk. slide. Keep them guessing what your going to do.
I couldn’t win any of the 2 spots to the national finals in ESWC, but I gave em hell LuckyD. I’m pretty happy with my performance, I put up a hell of a fight against everyone there.
Except for a very solid viper, I didn’t win a single round gainst this guy, I really couldn’t do anything, he was playing perfectly positioned and was destroying my zoning.
