Devil May Cry!

Cosmetics are a pretty importsant part of a games presentation…I mean yea I understand gameplay is the most important part but Cosmetics do matter. I just walked out watching my brother playing Dante’s Inferno cuz I couldn;t really stand to watch him beating on two year old deamon babies with blades for arms that cry like real babies. Its just too desturbing. Yea DmC isn’t Dante’s Inferno but it’s just an example.

Cosmetics as in how gay a character looks, though? Or the hue of his hair? You have idiots who say he’s Dante by name only now, despite the fact he has his trademark dual pistols, aerial rave, attitude, and Super Human powers. Nope, none of those things make him Dante. Just his hair color, lame argument is lame.

so you’ve noticed?

Yet, you can’t see what other peoples opinions, which will later become facts, about the game. Later for this.

i’ll holla a chu when we hear some news on that New Boondocks season 4. word up.

What opinions, that Dante looks gayer than he did in previous games that had him acting like a ninja turtle? Great logic thur.

Well I dunno if he looks gay but I do think he is a very unappealing design. He looks very dirty, his face is black and blue like he got the tar kicked out of him. He honestly reminds me of the Meth Heads wandering around downtown Tucson Arizona. It’s just not very appealing. I don’t see this Dante and go “Yea he’s cool. I wanna see him kick ass.” Even if this was a freash franchise with no ties to DMC I wouldn’t find him to be a very appealing character design. Then the world in inhabits isn’t very appeakling either. Its very run down and dingy and brown. Lots of dark shit brown type colors. It doesn’t look like a very fun place to romp around in. Matches the over all run down meth head look of Dante though. Like a city founded by Flops.

I do think the Demon Doll things look kind of cool though. I also chuckled when “Dante” put his ciggerette out on the Dolls head. Thats a “fuck you” Nero type move. Was killed by his rather femenine smoking style used at the end of the trailer though.

Aesthetically I don’t find this visually appealing at all, All the gothic roots look to be gone in exchange for a very dingy, brown, ugly, flop house style look. I dunno, Maybe the UK find Urban Decay the likes of which are only matched by Detroit to be cool, exotic locations. To me it just looks ugly.

As for him looking gay I dunno. As a Bisexual myself I don’t find him very attractive at all. More like the kind of guy who would drop roofies in my drink and steal my kidney in a back alley to pay for said Meth addiction.

Edit: I don’t find the first Dante to be very gay either. Loud and refuge in audacity doesn’t equate to gay either. There might be something to be said for his big phallic swords though.

The only valid argument here is people being concerned about NT and their track record.

As for DMC4s sales according this DMC4 sold 2.3 million units and it ranks above the next best selling DMC game which is the original which sold 2.190 million.

Actually, I think he did get his ass whooped. The part where he’s chained in the psychiatric ward and being interrogated.

That’s always been DMC, though. Dark & Dreary locals, difference being this area looks more urban than the gothic area in the early DMC’s. It’s like Dmc meets silent hil, the horror element is still there. maybe even more so.

Yeah, they got to fix that.

But, that smoking scene was what sold me on the character, I think some people just hate aesthetics so much that they refuse to like the character. Based on what I’ve seen this dante’s persona might be a throwback to DMC 1 Dante which is the best one.

I’m sure being multiplatform had something to do with that.

Not really, the PS2 has a bigger install base than both the 360 and PS3 combined.

DMC 4 was also a PS3 Launch title. That gives it a huge advantage in sales.

And it is a sequel to an already successful and widely popular game. Also it wasn’t a launch game; the PS3 launched in 2006 and DMC4 released in February, 2008.

I don’t think I was ever questioning that.

My bad, forgot it was delayed.

I’m only implying sequels of successful games tend to sell better than their predecessors.

I dunno, I mean out side of 4 none came close to 1 sales. But, I think this one will come close to 4 sales.

How do you feel about Testament from Guilty Gear X?

Kamiya was specific about Dante NOT being a smoker to him it was the anti-thesis of cool so the whole smoking thing makes him into the biggest departer from DMC1 Dante there is since it’s something his character would never do. As for not liking aesthetics thats not an issue with me because i LOVE aesthetics. I don’t like completele betrayals of a characters core…character. BEsides I said i liked the part where he ground his ciggerette out on the dolls head. It’s a cool little insult I like it. Him smoking like a bitch on the other hand is not cool. It’s not gay or anything like that. It’s just not cool or masculine or anything of the sort. It’s the kind of smoking self important twats do. Meh.

As for him getting his ass kicked…It’s not exactly hype inducing to see a character who is known for smashing ass in having the tar obviously kicked out him. It doesn’t get one excisted for the game because again it betrays the over all character. It doesn;t that the few action scenes that where in the trailer where ho hum and boring.compared to the series usual fair.

As for locations there’s a pretty big difference in stylized gothic settings and urban decay. The locations in that trailer remind me of DMC2. Really dirty and dingy and over all unnatractive. Just doesn’t do anything for me.

This has less to do with not liking aesthetic and more with not liking this kind of aesthetic. It’s just…ugly.

This sin’t to say I dislike that kind of location. I love it in Metal Gear Solid 1. I think MGS1 is more atmospjeric and obsorbing due a lot to how dirty, groww and over all not taken care of all the locations on Shadow Moses seem to be. makes the game feel like a down and dirty spy thriller noir title. It just pulls you in from the music to the characters to the grimey nasty dirty place you’re having to crawl through. The difference is that it fits MGS. I just dont think it its DMC at all.

I don’t like dudes who look dead.

Game is years away from being finished, wait it out.

/voice of reason

Well, naturally since he’s a different Dante. But, by throwback I means in terms of personality, this Dante seems stoic but arrogant like how Dante was in the older series. Which is honest;y absent in the later games, the stoic elements of Dante’s character aren’t there in the later games. They tried way too hard to make him extreme and edgy.

I don’t see betrayal here, the core of the character was bad ass demon hunter. That theme still seems to be present even down to Dante’s trademark attacks [ Dual pistol, Aerial Rave, Demonic strength.] with an added twist. kamiya not liking smoking and swapping it for strawberry ice cream was never cool. I don’t care how central it was to the character. This direction isn’t as radical as people making it out to be.

By usual fair, you mean the trademark elements that aren’t being kept on the down low like they are in this game? Kind of unfair when you think about it that way. I mean so far, we’ve only seen one enemy type and an exhibition that more or less shows same old same old. The only new thing so far is Dante being able to throw a vehicle. Too early to tell.

As for Dante being beaten up as betrayal, I don’t see why it can’t be an unknown story element. I don’t even see how it’s betrayal, is Dante unbeatable now?

I’m the opposite, it’s that neo-horror ambiance that I love. It looks like something out of saw or Silent hill.

As for your “opinion”, it’s opinion. DMC4 was awesome.

What’s your point, do sales = quality? That’s what I was talking about, the game was shit quality. Don’t care too much about how it sells.

No, sales don’t equal quality. But once again, your “opinion” does not equal “fact” either.

What is “fact” however is that Ninja Theory has made two games with a low, sluggish framerate, unresponsive controls and braindead, boring combat. And these are the people handling one of the best action games on the planet. Unless you have some magic crystal ball that says it’s gonna be great, all we have is their track record to place expectations on…and their track record blows.
