Devil May Cry!

Yo, better get that copy right.

Saw someone link to this on Neogaf, apparently there’s some interesting stuff under the surface and moves that’re unlisted which Capcom didn’t mention. Maybe just-frames will be better for a 30fps game.

I’m also curious at what the DMC community can do in terms of modding this game, if it can be modded. Maybe they can add lock-on and fix the Style gauge issues, so those complaints don’t have to stay hypothetical.

BTW, this is DmC related, but has anyone seen this?

OXM - 9/10

** Summary of LEVEL review: *
- Lots of fun variation in the level design. Dante swings between platforms, avoids incoming trains and explores vertical sewers

    • The multiple stage transformations throughout the game is well integrated in the story that is being told*
    • Ninja Theory is taking a more serious approach than Capcom in the story-department*
    • The controls in DmC isn’t as good as in the previous DMC-games - it’s much better*
    • DMC-veterans will feel “home”*
    • Basically all the changes has been for the better good; combining Devil May Cry’s deep, sophisticated action with the modern action-adventure stage-design*
  • 9/10*

Please don’t do this. I’ve not taken my medication yet.

Cool beans. Those same review sites are the ones handing out GOTY’s to games with barely any gameplay, and are all scripted events/cutscenes out the ass. Amazingly trust-worthy sources, game review sites are.

So, to these guys, DMC’s story and cutscenes=GDLK, instant 9/10. Gameplay? Wha? We just rushed through on easy and gave a score in the time-frame my job allowed! Complicated combos? Fuck that shit, I just got through the entire game with Square, Square, Triangle GoW style! Why would I need to learn any of the mechanics and systems in-place if I can just do the same shit over and over to win?! YEEEEEEEEEEAH!

finally got da new xbox in, copped the DmC demo sat my girl down to watch me play because she loves bayonetta and will just sit and watch me play it. my opinion on DmC demo

that shit is suuuuper average

it looks like like if there was a ps2.5. it looks like a game that would run on that shit. lol. controls are overly complicated for whatever reason. why am i holding a button down to keep it active while i use it in a 2012 devil may cry game. scaling the environment was annoying to me. im like, why wont you just let me double jump up high enough to grapple to where i need to go instead of flapping around the stage like an idiot to predestined areas to grapple. all the other game mechanic shit everyone has already talked about is what it is. my girl was sitting back watching me play the boss and was like why is this dialogue so bad. lol. for you niggas that actually like it, or dont find it to be that bad, i dont know what to say actually.

im not going to go on a long tirade since i just really dont care for the game and have said more then enough in here arguing shit before, but its a hack n slash game fo sho, just not devil may cry as i know it and what i wanted it to be in 2013. that small example of whats to come from the demo is just not for me at all. especially not after spending 6 hours playing bayonetta yesterday and about an hour on dmc4 earlier, and hours on dmc3se the past couple months.

im gonna crack out on the DmC demo a little more here soon for about 2 hours just to fool around, but ew. its just so clunky and i hope all this environmental scaling around with devil and angel whips is really limited in the final version. its just so arbitrary and annoying. man and you have to pay 15 bucks for vergil too, or is that a preorder bonus.

i could see average dmc fans and average hack n slash fans copping the game and seeing no issues with it really. shame

Not really surprised, this game was designed as a game reviewer’s wet dream. Relatively short and simple, plus plenty of stuff that can be described in under 2 sentences.

I just remembered you can’t skip cutscenes. Uh…I hope there’s a mod to fix that too?

Walking Dead is still better than lot of games that drop this year. Journey as well.

Throwing this out there guys…there is a free power up rewards card that you can get that should get you the dlc. Also its not shady…its business. You may now carry on.

and with that being said:

apparently people didn’t get it the first time…

Changing from preorder bonus to a membersip preorder bonus in the last 2-3 months is shady.

HOLY FUCK THIS IS GETTING WORSE AS I PLAY IT WITH THIS JUMP CANCEL SHIT AND TERRIBLE HITBOXES, allowing you to do some really stupid shit. looooooool. what is this nonsense. i will probably have to make a second update in a few hours. ew

You can jump cancel before the attack lands.

It’s pretty funny jumping out of helm breaker or the axe O attack before it connects

If we wanna be technical, the first trailer for Vergil’s Downfall states that you get it for free and you still do. It never said anything abou not having to sign up for PUR to get it. GS has been doing that though where if you have a PUR you may get get more extra stuff on top of it. If you don’t want to get a free PUR card on principle then that’s fine…you’ll just have to pay for the DLC when it comes out and give Capcom and TN more of your money. thumbs up and cheesy smile Addon: That is if you care enough about having him in the first place.

Sometimes, I feel like I should give up gaming. I look around, and all I see are knockoffs, generic schlock, and yearly “updates” (to call them sequels would be insulting to actual sequels) produced on a six-month development cycle. I used to take solace that at the very least there were a few franchises and companies that were always rock-solid when it came to quality-- Devil May Cry and Capcom were a couple of those few names that I could count on… until they announced this game.

I’m not going to get into all the arguments of why I don’t like where they’ve taken the game(and heaven knows we’ve all gone down this cul de sac enough times), but I will say that as far as I am concerned NO company should ever engage in the kind of childish antics, name-calling, and insulting of peoples’ intelligence that Capcom/NT/Jones/Antoniades & crew have done during all this controversy. For fanboys and forum trolls to behave in such a fashion is one thing, but when you’re a multimillion dollar corporation and so-called professional game developers, stooping to such a level is disgusting and as a consumer, I WILL NOT TOLERATE any douche in a suit talking down to me, the guy with the money in his hand.

You see all those dollar bills in my hand, Capcom? You want them, don’t you? Well too bad… They are going towards a little company made by guys you fired called Platinum Games. They get them because they understand me… They don’t pout and whine and call me an “entitled fanboy” when I question their actions(which is very little because they actually respect me). They put on their big boy pants when they make a mistake(this is a big one), THEY APOLOGIZE FOR IT and make sure it never happens again.

In an industry of corporate hand-wringing and of increasingly diminishing returns where my tastes and preferences get shoved in a corner and told that I’m not wanted anymore, I am glad that there are still a few studios and people who believe what I believe. Who share in the ideals that gamers are not all flavor-of-the-month ninnies who play a game for a few hours and forget about it and that games are far more than just ‘interactive movies’ but are actually GAMES still to be played and mastered if so chosen.

is son of sparda suppose to be hard mode? it takes forever to get them to swing at you, and theyre attacks are so slow from start to finish. im just sitting here what feels like way to long to wait for the attack to get close enough to demon dodge. i know theyre just early enemies from a demo, but ugh god damn.

Door swing both ways man. Not defending the PR for the game cause it has been a bit dumb BUT seriously WTF do you expect a company to do when you got idiots throwing death threats at you for what you’re doing with DMC? or wishing that your company collapses because the game isn’t like the previous series? Its like we live in age where people can’t just let a company just try something different just to see where it goes. I’m all for constructive criticism and objectivity which people have given to Capcom but for every 1 rational person that puts out a logical complaint, you got 9 others spouting out braindead childish antics just cause.

I hate quoting myself, but that shit is unacceptable when you’re the dude with the Dante statue imported from Japan who has a DMC fansite made in Angelfire, and especially so when you’re a once-respectable company whose community liasons are engaging in said behavior. Idiots are everywhere, and if you waste time engaging them all, then you’re never going to get anywhere important.

As far as trying something different… That’s fine. I encourage it. Doing it on the back of a beloved and respected franchise while gutting or dumbing dow–excuse me… making the the gameplay more ‘accessible’ for the consumer? No, I’m not with that.

Why couldn’t this have just been a new IP with NT’s original vision? Why did Dante and Vergil have to get makeovers when they were perfectly fine before? Does Mario need a makeover because he’s out of touch with the average gamer? Where does it stop? When does it stop?

C’mon now, you and I both know that the gaming climate has changed. NOBODY wants to put time and effort into getting better in games. Capcom had to make a decision in order to keep themselves from losing money. They’re business first and optioned to cater to those fans that weren’t into the what the DMC series was. The optimistic part of me feels that with all the BS they’re getting off this game, best believe if the sales are decent, they’ll go back to OG Dante in a heartbeat.

But DMC4 was the highest selling DMC of all.
