I think the issue with the loot is not so much that the amount of loot you get is bad… Well sorta, but its more it feels like you dont get rewarded for playing. Hell i can go weekes without seeing an exotic drop. I can go days without even seeing a legendary engram. Even weeks without a legendary.
As stated they need to triple the amount of exotic weapons and increase the amount of exotic armors (there is only so much you can do here.) then they need to add a safety net like diablo 3 did where it keeps increasing the chance of getting a legendary until you get one. For example you play for 40 hours and get nothing at all the % goes from say 0.3 to 1.0. Its a rough example but you get the point. You will eventually get something.
I cant stand playing pve anymore other than raid because you just never get anything at all… Its a joke, a game based off loot and you get greens and blues which are useless. They need to make the game rewarding if they wana keep people playing.
Dont even get me started on drops in pvp… That shit is so rubbish and id much rather pvp than continue to kill the same boring ai baddies over and over. At least with real players you have to think about your actions. But because there is even less reward in pvp alot of people flat out avoid it. I love to pvp and id sure as hell never do that sad excuse of pve bungie likes to call endgame if i could get the same rewards in pvp.
If bungie wants to keep the player base playing they need to step it up because i totally understand all the bitching about the loot, its abysmal.
The biggest issue is lack of content and it directly impacts how the loot works. I bet if they increased legendaries and exotics we’d see increases in them drop.
I half agree with you saying blues and greens are worthless. They’re only worthless in most pve content, but there are some good blues for PvP.
Shingan-E is the only usable blue gun for pvp. Other than that nothing else is all that good. Blues are bad and serve no purpose outside of matterials.
Im not saying they shouldnt drop. Its just i dont get excited if a blue drops, its not a reward for completeing content its not fun. A purple engram feels like a rewards it feels fun like a present. I am not saying purples should drop every strike or pvp match but it be nice to get one every 3 hours of play give or take. A reward for playing the game. Its not too much to ask for right? And yes the content is so minimal in the game that it cant be over rewarding you i guess that makes sense. But man is it really that hard to make pve content?? Strikes are so simple the game mechanics are so basic that every expantion should be brining 5 new strikes and at least 2 raids. This dlc added what… 2 new pve exotic guns??? Both are awful one is completely unusable. Bungie needs to step their game up.
Imagine beating phogoth and you get a drop of 4 greens, 2 blues and a purp. That’s the kind of gratification I think would be suffice for most people. Just limit the purp to have a higher chance of decrypting to coins or mats.
The blue scout rifles are very good. I have 2 with explosive rounds and one of them also has the fast reload perk. Galahad with grenade regen or the ARs with the Suros regime archetype are also really good if you don’t have the legendary AR or if you want to equip an exotic in another slot. But yes blue shotties, hand cannons and ARs/SRs with terrible perk rolls are instantly dismantled lol.
Btw strikes, it’s becoming ridiculous at the amount of people running through them. I don’t think many people realize you diminish the chance of getting a purp drop if you just run through the content.
I agree, I hate doing strikes and knowing that 99% of the loot I get is just going to end up becoming Sapphire Wire or Weapon Parts. I get more legendary engrams from leveling the Cryptarch - which just end up being blues anyway. I think I’m over 300 strikes now and I’ve gotten exactly 2 exotic drops (Roc & Nightfall). I’ve been more fortunate lately in other activities, but those can only be done max 3 times a week (I’m not deleting characters - no time for that nonsense).
The game needs at least 75 exotic weapons and double (maybe triple) the amount of legendaries. May seem unreasonable, but it would allow for more frequent drops of useful gear.
Did Crota this past weekend and got the Fusion rifle. Awesome right? A teammate got 3 shards. I don’t mind them being in the loot table, but 3? If the dice roll says you get shards, it should be 12 (3 more than the max you can get from other activities). 3 shards is an insult and definitely makes you feel as if you’ve wasted your time.
Yea ive gotten only shards from killing crota before and if was off a legit attempt. Its like a hot girl coming up to you and it looks like shes all into you… Then she just knees you in the balls laughs and walks off…

Also is this true that your chances are lowered if you skip content??? Is there a link to this or a test with a good sample size?? I cant picture anyone being able to efficently being able to test this.
I like how supposedly this raid was fixed in a way that it wouldn’t throw at you equipment that you already got, but that didn’t stop it to throw at me the goddamn boots 3 raids in a row, that if it didn’t throw fucking shards.

you are crazy, sidewinder mk.53 is a godlike shotgun. there are a few other blues too, i have died to a few of them, but i mainly use shotty, so sidewinder is the one i remember the most.
but yea, the loot does suck, i just watched my friend get 9 ascended energy for doing the nightfall. IMO nightfall should be a guaranteed exotic or equivalent, that shit can be very time consuming some weeks.
I said way back that the rewards for the new dlc are underwhelming the guns are really only worth anything for pve which is lol.
I always go by what works against the human component then worry about ai shit even the necrocasm seems so situational compared to the earlier weapons. So after hitting lvl 32… Eh
I’ve started to drop my amount of time put into this game because of work and when you are maxed the amount of stuff to do drops in significance to about every few days.
Not to mention after soloing the nightfall 3 times and getting ascendant energy, aakumuras spine (a fucking useless item for hunters) and a Titan helmet (I don’t have a Titan) and you start to see the Amount of time wasted. Cryptarch is fucking useless because after upgrading him you get outdated items. Which in turn makes blues useless which makes vanguard roc lacking so after a few pvp matches and 1or 2 bounties, a raid to upgrade my black hammer… I call it a week
I could easily see from the previews what sucks and what doesn’t so i cherry pick that cuts the time by about 3/4ths
As someone who has played a lot of Borderlands and Destiny, I find the way you look at loot is the same regardless of the amount of loot that drops. I end up sharding Blues in Destiny the same way I dont bother looking at blues and purples in BL. I’ll take quality over quantity. For all its loot, Borderlands endgame revolves around a handful of Legendaries.
That being said, Destiny’s loot does need some work.
Ascendent materials are really helpful for mid level players, but useless at higher levels. Nightfalls are generally done by higher leveled players, so the rewards should be geared towards them. I’m not saying 100% guaranteed Exotics, but maybe Exotic Engrams, max light armor and x4 Legendaries should be added to the reward pool.
They also need to add reforging to ALL legendary weapons. You should be able to spend commendations on perk re-rolls. This would make commendations relevant again, as well as make legendary drops more significant. It gives you something more worthwhile to grind for. Imagine if you took the terrible “devil you dont” that the vanguard sells and re-rolled it to have Rangefinder, Luck in the Chamber, and Field Scout, that would be a beast of a hand canon.
It’s basically a numbers game, the more enemies you kill, the more chances you have at a purple engram dropping. I’m not joking when I say this but I’m pretty sure I’ve had more purple engram drops than average and that’s because I kill everything during strikes, patrols and story missions. If it’s in the same area as me, I’ll kill it. It’s a very basic premise but most people don’t understand. That’s why you see a lot of posts on reddit or the bungie forums of people never having purple drops, they just fly through everything.

It’s not just strikes, it’s just in general. The more you kill, the higher the chance that you’ll get purps. It’s strictly a numbers thing and not limited to strikes. My suggestion is to complete strikes and story missions by killing everything around you. Same with patrol, kill everything in your area.
