Desoldering help

What does it mean to re-tin?

The old tip on my soldering iron was horrible. I didnt do much soldering, so i just left it alone… last time i tried it out it was so bad at soldering that i had to give up. i bought a new tip and the difference was massive.

i try and keep my tip clean whenever i use it now. even though the tips are kinda cheap, i dont want to have to buy em every month.

I went on google to get you a good link to explain it, but the best links are the video ones, which are blocked where I work.

Look at the first couple of hits on that. BAsically it has to do with applying a thin layer of solder to the tip to help the flow of heat. However, they will describe it better then I could.
