I envy you guys alot cause people over in So cali accually takes HDR seriously and runs tourneys often unlike North Cali theres not enough people who take HDR seriously to even run one maybe once a year. They just make HDR a side tourney or an appetizer for SF4
yea i feel you it’s weird though because when i was over there for NorCal Regional’s
i met alot of people from norcal that seem to follow it pretty serious and i was liek whoa maybe norcal has a bigger scene than us here at Denjin… It’s really weird:wtf:
Well North Cali players all are spread out through out the region (2 hours apart from each other)and not just in one area like San Jose or Sunnyvale,ca. So its hard to find anyone who takes HDR seriously, and the only tournaments that are run are just SF4 tourneys at MGL or SJSU or keystone 2. Are you sure they are all from north cali that you met?
The only ST players in north cali that would play are Myself, my brother, Tyram, vestax, Chrisis and thats it(discluding John Choi since he will only enter if its a major tourney like EVO or NCR, etc were theres large prize money involved) and we are all 2 hours apart in distance(except for my brother and I). No one wants have an hdr tourney every other week like you guys. Infact when I ask for one on the north cali threads most people response would be " stop begging for HDR tourneys and pick up SF4 please!" which sucks
Ironically, yeah, it’s definitely scattered, even though we’re densely populated in spurts all over the bay area, it’s hard to get HDR going on a regular basis. I imagine SoCal is so huge, so props to you guys for keeping it together. The last time I competed was in CE and Hyper, I never really touched vanilla ST in tournies. Hell, I’ve been out of the scene for a long time, almost 14 years. I was surprised to see there’s still a following for the foundation stuff.
I met a lot of cool guys this year, and what I’ve noticed… a lot of new guys like HDR (almost like their guilty pleasures to SF4). They love to play casuals but are too afraid to compete. I checked out EVO this year, and we must’ve had like 10 to 12 pool stations and with 300+ HDR competitors, the 2nd larget tourney at EVO. It’s still strong. Trust me, a lot of guys that plays SF4, like to play HDR but like they say, out with the old, in with the new. When SSF4 comes out, we might plateau again or even go down in numbers. I think EVO 2010 will determine that.
I mean besides the ones that Battosai mentioned, there are still quite a handful that love to play, thrust07, Fudd, moses14, richard li, shinobi00, galatic phantom, eltwopee, djreign78, macarudy, eph, graham, ramin, skwirl, LPN, and many others I know I’m forgetting. For 2010, I plan to be more proactive and get some more HDR games going. I’m still trying to find a couple of good monitors right now and have 2 dedicated HDR stations at these local tournies.
If I remember correctly, EAMegaMan lives in/near San Diego, which is about a 3 hour drive (minimal to zero traffic) from Denjin and he shows up to every HDR tournament we have.

Also If you guys want I can bring another monitor and 360 so we can have another set running HDR maybe under ST rules or even maybe get some Hyper Fighting action. I’ve been wanting to play HF recently but after GGPO and HDR I can’t go back to that dog shit netcode.
fuck that, sf4 fucking sucks and i’m positive super sf4 is going to be just as bad, probably worse. more ultras and new characters doesn’t make a shit game any better. i wonder what ceasar would have to say about you dropping your car off in santa maria and carpooling the rest of the way?
on another note, i wish shogo would put st back on the head2head cab at the end again
