Haha, I doubt he knows my name. I’m probably SAG to him. Skinny asian guy. He’s got a decent Akuma, he just plays it like 3S and doesn’t really try and adapt or anything.
But yeah, he gave me some really good practice against Akuma on Sat.
It seems like demon flip allows Akuma to be played like 3s surprisingly effectively.
At my arcade back in college we had a SAG, but he was Short Asian Guy.
Demon flip is really good. The kick turns out to have a sick hitbox that ruins lariats and crazy hit stun so that a hit by the tip of Akuma’s foot on the top of Gief’s head will still let him combo into standing fierce once he lands, the punch thing knocks down and has the same kind of sick hitbox, and the throw is a good mixup (I kinda think the slide sucks, though). And the ex version is crazy. Akuma throws a fireball, Gief does punch lariat from a full screen away, Akuma does ex demon flip and gets a free dive kick into combo. Too good. Jose’s the one who showed me that. Akuma is definitely scarier for a Gief player when played up close rushdown style, good for me that Jose keeps trying to keep me out.

Focus attack as soon as you see him go up into the air. Which for Juan/Jose/FM guy is always demon flip, close fierce, GEE I DONT KNOW MAYBE DEMON FLIP AGAIN? And then let go and get a free SPD. 
It works against him cause he rarely mixes up his demon flips.
And I just kick lariet through the ground fireballs and absorb the air ones and backdash. Alternate between that and jumping/blocking.
Yeah, I do the same thing to get around ground and air fireballs, although if he does an air fireball too close or too high up in the air I’ll do ex or regular green hand through or under it and either hit him with it or get a free 360 when he lands. But if he does random demon flip, I tend to do neutral jumping roundhouse or jumping up+strong (which gets Akuma within 2 hits of stunned), depending on how close he is, or standing jab if I don’t have time. How does focus attack work out? He can vary the timing of his attack out of demon flip so much that it seems kinda risky to me. I’m generally pretty wary of using focus attack as an antiair with Gief considering how laggy his regular and dash recoveries are.
Juan hasn’t done repeat demon flip too often on me, but then I haven’t played him for a couple weeks, maybe he’s changing his game.
From what I’ve seen of Juan, he plays SF4 almost exactly how he plays 3S… >_>;
Even though I don’t even live in the same country, I am stoked that Denjin even exists. How often do you get proper arcades with decent machines and an owner who actually gives a shit?
