Better crack open those life gems.
If I had poison resist I’d be laughing but nah that area is some funny shit. I should use effigy asap, and just camp till I get two true warriors
I always took it to be Vendrick’s discarded armor, rather than a separate body. I’ll have to look again when I go to try to beat him.
That said, Darklurker is a flippin’ bastard.
[details=Spoiler]Most of his/her attacks are pretty easy to dodge, even in the second phase when he splits in two, but that dark homing splodeball attack… Urgh. I still haven’t found a reliable way to dodge it. And that takes more than half my life, and if I’m unlucky that happens just when the other half is firing stuff at me, so I basically get comboed to death even at full life. Oh yeah, and you can forget all about Estus flasks once he splits, so you need to use one of the faster consumables to heal.
It’s made all the more annoying by the fact that I need to spend an effigy every time I wanna try my hand at the fight again, and as far as I can tell you HAVE to do it alone. Thinking I might hold off until I’ve leveled up some from all the other stuff I’ve got to do.[/details]
Am I the only one who feels the level design in DS2 pales in comparison to DS1 and that with all these smaller areas the game feels padded?
I’m on NG+ now and I beat all the bosses the first time so I’ve seen everything and yeah it just felt like things were dragged out. I don’t even want DLC because it’ll probably be another straight line with the occasional detours and short cuts to get me to the last big bad boss. Plus bonfire warping trivialized everything. I’d feel better if the game just had Dark Souls warping from the start and not necessarily every bonfire. There’s no tension in walking forward, killing some dudes, taking some damage, resting at a bonfire, and then warping back to get my weapon upgrading on. Dark Souls would make everything into a damn journey even if you’ve been through a place a dozen times. You still had to take care of yourself. If there is to be a DS3 I want that DS1 level design and preparation/journey like feel.
On another note I'm playing as woman and wearing the witch's robe gives my character a donk. I love it. That open back on it too is so sexy.
Don’t get me wrong, I love, love DS2. I’m utterly absorbed by it. It’s among the few games that I can just gorge on, as I’ve been doing the past couple of weeks.
But if I could put the DS2 backstab mechanics and online stability into DS1, that would unquestionably be the better game to me. The first game just has more… character.
DS2 does start off a little bland, in that other than the Last Giant (which is one hell of a design) there’s a lot of “here’s some dude(s) in armor” boss fights. Once you get further into the game, though, it definitely develops its own sense of identity.
DS1 remains my favorite game of the PS3/360 generation, even despite online PVPing devolving into “fish for/work to prevent somehow getting backstabbed by a giant freaking hammer”. Overly powerful and easy-to-land backstabs broke that game, and it didn’t help that summoning helpers was notoriously unstable. DS2 is one of those “more of the same” sequels, but in a good way. I wanted MOAR SOULS. I got MOAR SOULS. And I am happy.

Right now I’m working on an INT mage since I already beat the game with my other level 150 dex build character. Going through the game relying mostly on magic is a completely different experience to me. I plan on getting this character to level 150, respecing to different magic builds if I have to while my other character focuses on STR/DEX.
Next I’m going to make a third character that’s going to make it to NG+7 in the covenant of champions with no level cap, just because I’ve never been in NG+7 in a souls game. Dat replay value.
Okay, went through Londor Ruins and this time found that beam you have to walk on to get to the broken window to actually get through the area… Anywho, killed Lautrec and finally have his Ring. Killed him on my 3rd try and I had to cheese it but for dumb reasons. When you use the DSMouseFix the mouse is disabled whenever a dialog is triggered. Not a big deal up until this point. But when you meet Lautrec he initiates a dialog and prevents me from getting a hit or two in with my Pyromancy. Instead, I had to go up the stairs, take out a bow and fire at his mage retard, He proceeds to run up the stairs towards me while his two boyfriends wander around and can’t help him. Working on the tag team of Buddha Fuckface and Lightning Anime Fuckface now. The targeting is fucking me over a lot more now.
Reading the Wikidot page on Dark Souls 2, it looks like there are some extra enemies here and there in NG+, too. Even some extra miniboss fights in areas that are otherwise empty. Iiiiinteresting. Though I think I’ll level up and take care of the three optional bosses I’m currently struggling against before I think about that… My magic damage clearly needs some more oomph for these.
Vendrick is an odd case because I’m pretty sure I could’ve taken him on at this point if I’d gone for a more melee-based class.
Also just learned that bosses in fact get their HP increased when I summon people to help me along. Well now, that explains why I was chipping off that dragon’s lifebar so slowly! Still need more oomph.

Was anyone else disappointed by the lack of the primordial serpents Kaathe and Frampt? We get absolutely no info regarding their fate which is weird considering Kaathe is more or less the real villain of DS1. He tricked the people of Oolacile, he tricked the people of New Londo and for all we know he potentially tricks the chosen undead. I highly doubt either of them are dead since they are primordial, meaning that they existed from the beginning and are at least as old as the everlasting dragons.
yea i was really disappointed to see we get nothing on the Primordial Serpents. Even if you dont count Kaathe as a bad guy (the two you meet in DS1 both arguably mislead you and theres nothing more then the description of a toothy serpant leading to Oolaciles downfall and that could be either kaathe or frampt or an entirely other serpant) it was clear the primordial serpants where important and to not have even a hint of thrm in DS2 is pretty disappointing.
It’s debatable who’s the biggest liar out of Kaathe and Frampt. Ultimately they both manipulate people to accomplish their goals.
My take incase others are still playing.[details=Spoiler]Kaathe fd over an ancient kingdom and you into getting the bad ending plus the ancient human recievers of the their fraction of the lord soul. Frampt perpetuated the lie put forth by Gwyndolin Kaathe is a shady MFR but my money is on Frampt all the way as the shittier of the two based on how many people were sacked to keep the bonfires lit. That being said Hawkeye Gough, the GIANT blacksmith of Anor Londo are giants. The other three were in Sens fortress used as manual labor. That being said Goughs own equipment leads me to believe that the gods and giants were on a worth = respect basis of a relationship. Gough was a legend of his own kind and earned the respect of Gwyn and was heaped with accolades, meaning Gods and Giants were probably uneasy allies against the Dragons of Giants and their alliance or noteworthies would be as well. In the first game there were giants but they were tinkerers and serfs for lack of a better word I would even go as far to say that outside of the Giant blacksmith the ones in Sens were more likely than not hollow similar to the dwarves of stonefang being turned into lizard man thralls of the Dragon God demon. They just continue to do their job for eternity.
In regards to warriors the only one encountered is Gough the great knight of the lord of sunlight. But he is at the twilight of his existance in Oolacile, the city has all but fallen and the only other knight encountered is Ciaran who appears to be still active. Artorias has already succumbed albeit recently to his injuries and based on this outcome. The twilight of the Gods it is my assumption is in full effect. Though the plot to link the fire is not mentioned by Gough so that final solution has not occured yet. Thus the curse of the undead hasn’t been afflicted on the world just yet.
One thing I did enjoy about the new game were the fuzzy descriptions on the items from the previous game and the hint that new heroes made their names off of such artifacts. No one remembers the legendary four knights but their items had been used by new heroes like in the case of Goughs ring. Also the note to the Dragon Slayer was neat for me as it shows that he got a legend that far outlived a modern interpretation of him like king arthur, or Hercules that was pretty cool.[/details]
In due time do you think From will explain the lore better between both games?
And no joke would you guys be interested in a Dark Souls that has the look of the 18th century?

Really? I thought someone specifically mentioned Kaathe in the DLC, but I could be remembering wrong. Regardless, they still play a pivotal role in the Dark Souls lore and yet not even the dark armor gives a hint about Kaathe.
For sure. I wasn’t suggesting that Frampt wasn’t a liar, but Kaathe was responsible for the genocide of a people, so he’s a little more evil in my opinion. Frampt is still a manipulative bastard. It’s just a shame we get nothing from them in Dark Souls 2. I think the narrative between both games would have been much stronger with a strong connecting factor.
Nope no one ever mentions a Primordial Serpent by name in the DLC, the only who even talks about them is Marvelous Chester.
Believe it or not…
Oolacile has brought the Abyss upon itself.
Fooled by that toothy serpent, they upturned the grave of primeval man, and incited his ornery wrath.
What could they have been thinking?
But to you and I, it’s all ancient history.
You have to ask yourself. Does it really matter?
Heh heh heh…
No name, just the description of a Primordial Serpent. It could be either Kaathe or Frampt, or one of the other 4 or so un-named Serpents from the Dark Lord Ending. imo if we look at all the evidence from the game Frampt seems way worse. He lies to you pretty blatantly, but if you don’t do what he wants he just seems to shrug his shoulders and side with Frampt in the Dark Lord Ending with no muss or fuss. Personally I don’t think it matters if it was Kaathe or Frampt or another Serpent who lead to the downfall of Oolacile either way NONE of the serpents are trust worthy and are just using the undead (and humanity as a whole if Oolacile is anything to go by) as cosmic play things.
Seriously nothing in DSII about Primordial Serpents…it’s a fucking crime as far as the games narrative goes. Seriously those guys are the real antagonists and yet Manus gets top villain billing. :smh:
I think they got a mention on a shield in II, I have to think that time has faded all things and to be honest A legendary serpent that wasn’t supposed to exist except in myth there would be no reason in II for a kinseeker or a master of the dark, In the end they both got what they wanted. A couple other references in game lead me to believe that inspite of the continued light man is his own darkness. No reason for primordial beasts to interfere. [details=Spoiler]That and the dark has its day in II[/details]
Got the AoA DLC. What can I say? Artorias does not want me wearing his armor. He’s actually beating me. And it’s pretty sweet that you can warp from that time period to the present. I thought I would be stuck there until I slay Manus.
