I tried with two and three people (including and excluding the npc) and ended up doing it alone. If anyone died its a bitch to deal with that larger health bar. Honestly I wore my best fire defense gear and dual wielded with Hiede Sword +5 and the naturally found Magic Mace. Having a shield slowed me down and put me in the habit of blocking instead of dodging. Once I stripped myself of fear I went in like the Wolverine!
Used the same method to deal with the guy that shows up af-
Yeah honestly, there are several bosses where it feels like it makes more sense to just do it solo because the extended lifebars can really suck to deal with. Out of all the times I tried to beat the trio of Sentinels in Lost Bastille with various party sizes, I only actually beat them when I solo’d it lol
Get naked and roll out of the way. Most if not all the enemies and bosses in this game are right handed so stick to dodging to your right. Seriously it took me two tries once I tried my new method to beat him verus the dozen tries before hand. I still get hit but he telegraphs the crap out of everything.
Same with every enemy in the game basically. I fought the next three bosses like that (Iron King, that special guy I almost mentioned, and That Chick).
And never get too greedy with your attacks. Hell even if you stagger bosses you’ve probably done it after expending your stamina bar. Take the precious two seconds to regroup and prepare for the next attack.
Which brings me to a bold point: because SO many of DS2’s bosses and enemies are humanoid it’s made the game too predictable. I’ve fought like two bosses that weren’t humanoid in some way or shape and I’ve got probably six or so left to go. The lack of non-humanoid creatures has made everything so predictable. There’s nothing like the various Dragons or Centipede Thingy or Hydra from DS. I can’t simply stick their left side when anything could be an attack with those monsters. Everyone is right handed in DS2. EVERYONE. Dark Souls 2: Strafe Right!
I’m not complaining either. I like getting to use the skills I’ve learned and gear I’ve gained on all these different humanoids but dealing with beasts is a whole other story. I just miss that.
And another thing, while fast travel to every bonfire is the shit it does take away something that made DS1 (and Dragon’s Dogma to an extent) unique and that’s the preparation for a journey. You don’t have to walk through three areas to get to around in DS2. In DS1 that was a game in itself. “Alright I need to get to the demon ruins. I could cut through the parish, drake valley, blight town or go through the undead burg, sewers, blight town, then to the ruins. The first route is safer but I need some humanity from the sewer rats so I should spend a little time there.” In DS2 it would go like this “I need some effigies so time to pay (…) a visit then it’s off to see the Shaded Ruins.” I really don’t have to weigh my options in DS2.
Again not a complaint. I think moving forward with the series DS2 method is the better way to go especially with the emphasizes on multiplayer. It’s faster and keeps you pushing forward (especially despawning enemies). But there is something to be said about how DS1 did it and I hope someone else puts us back in that style of play.
Havels ring was used so often because the other choices sucked dick. It’s why nearly everyone just wore Havels, FaP, and Wolf Ring. Sorcerers had more in terms of rings, but melee builds only had 3 that were worth while. Most of the rings I have in Dark souls 2 actually have uses besides being terrible.
I never did much SL50 PVP in Dark souls because From what I remembered of it it was just Elemental weapons and Vit Gouging.
SL120 Melee users had a lot of options, but Str users suffered from it because they couldn’t go Str/int,pyro,faith without having incredibly terrible casting speeds because Casting speed was tied to dex.
I think part of the issue is most players don’t know how to be one. There’s plenty of them that use the Red Soapstone though, you’ll see a lot of them in the Iron Keep, which seems to be a popular dueling arena
To win, you only have to reach the next bonfire, so just run. Also, even if you die, you don’t lose anything actually, so there’s that.
So I’m not supposed to fight? I don’t get it… What’s the point of summoning me to their world just to get ganked by Master Splinter and his army of rodents?
Yeah, just took out Smelter Demon with Toxic and a +10 Rapier. Fuckin tight
They get a Pharros’ Lockstone and a key item needed to rank up needed to rank up in the covenant, and for ranking up you get more items. At the highest rank, you get the ring that makes your character move silently. Other than that it’s fun for people that like to play like assassins, like me lol
This game is easierish than DS1. Y’all cats just don’t remember things right. Too greedy in combat gets your shit wrecked. Control the enemy! Make them play your game! I’ve found so man opportunities to exploit almost every situation without expending a bunch of arrows to keep the enemy at bay. Control, control, CONTROL!
It’s so fucking sexy how I get in a boss’s face and control how they attack me. I dare you you fucking armored monster to make a wrong move. I will slay all of you!!!
Nah bro, I feel the same, shit’s super exciting to play in their face and it’s pretty much the best way TO play if you’re melee. It’s really unfortunate that they took aiming and R2 casting from magic in this game, it seems like magic builds really need things like that
.
I beat it on my third try solo with a scimitar +10, the starting weapon class for the wanderer, and I’m also using the default armour for that class too. Put some points into adaptability if you haven’t already, I think it makes dodging have more invincibility frames. Honestly most bosses in dark souls can be beaten with the same strategy and this strategy works very well against this specific boss. Just walk around the boss in circles and dodge to the right whenever he attacks, and then punish accordingly. Learn to distinguish when he is doing a string of attacks and a single attack, so you don’t get hit when trying to punish. Also don’t getting in 1-2 attacks is enough don’t try to push it, unless you are certain.
Overall just be brave and walk right up into his face and dodge the moment he attacks then punish.
It’s basically a “free stuff” covenant then lol… I didn’t join because fuck that condescending ass rat “king.” Talking about “I can’t stand your stench.” He’s lucky I didn’t cut his death and disease ridden head off.
Speaking of decapitation… No katana still. I’ve seen some in the loading screens that I reeeeeaaaally want. These Longswords don’t suffice anymore. I got to the Black Gulch boss (fuck The Gutter, btw… OMFG) and I did baby damage. The enemies in the Iron Keep laugh at me too.
well also people are talking about on streams for pvp, they already know the best weapons for sl 120 since they got the guides and move sets down already, only a few weapons are good for pvp at sl 120. Some move sets kill people in like 2 hits.
Some people just dont understand if you use a weapon thats good at killing monsters may not work as good on a human player. Theres weapons like the halberds R2 attack is crazy fast and does good damage
What I DO like about the bosses and the enemies in general in this game, is that it DOES reward cautiousness but not cowardice. It wants you to be brave, but patient and smart about it. I mean yeah, you’ll still mess up often and die a lot, but it gets easier the less you hold on for dear life
