Yeah sorry, it’s Dark Souls.
Going for Bastard sword is a good starter tip. You can just knock the drake down or wait him down and run for it when you see him jump down to you, and grab it then run to the end for safety. Drake sword will only last him like 2 bosses while the Bastard sword can last him the entire game if he choices it too.
Pretty sure it is the claymore.
And dodging the dragon is harder than shooting his tail off, imo.
Plus he can glitch into the horizon, and you can lose the chance for a weapon needed for the platinum, until new game +.
It happened to me.
Lit Spear is where it is at for newbs, early to mid game, anyway - despite nerfs.
i just go for the gravelord sword, pretty much beats drake sword in every way. Then Ill get gold tracer and a spear, mix in some pyro for pvp
Platinum in Demons is not hard at all, however getting the drop from BP Gold Skeletons in world 5 pure blade stone I think it was is the biggest FU in gaming history next to trying to get the tails in FF4 from dragons only also the FF3 remake for onion equipment. God the drop rate in those games was like .0001% in Demon Souls I wouldn’t be surprised if it is .0000000001%. Get some music to listen two and easiest way is to run up from old warrior archstone and backstab that FR then teleport back and repeat. Everything else in the game is easy enough.
Also sequel definatly the item descriptions in the beta basically all but say that the events of DAS is all but forgotten and basically legendary by now. Thats just off of the beta hopefully they keep more of the vagueness in the game like the predecessors. I heard the new guy is pushing for more concrete story which means more talking NPCS which is dumb. I like the Idea of complete exploration. The story I heard when the original creator was making in the game was that he pulled from his own exp. as a youth trying to understand old western DND books and only having a limited command of English he had to decipher each text to the best of his ability. As a result he took that exp. and turned it into the story telling method of the souls games. That is also why we get some conflicting POVs on certain item descriptions and alittle bit more of the story with each piece. Personally I love the method and the silent Protag adds to the mystique of the game.
For someone playing the game for the first time Gravelord Sword is pretty much impossible to get.
Boost your Strength and Dex to 16, and then go nab the Drake Sword off of the Red Dragon. If you don’t know how, just ask google. There’s plenty of detailed videos to show you exactly what you need to get that sword, seeing as how it’s probably the most common starter weapon for new players.
Secondly, if you think you’re good enough at running…go to the bottom of Darkroot Basin (again, you can probably just look up a video on the specific location of this) and grab the Elite Armor Set. It’s the cover armor set for this game and it’s actually not bad at all for starting out.
Make sure you speak to Solaire after defeating the Tauros Demon. He gives you the items required to summon NPC’s and other players to help you before a boss battle. But also remember that you need to be in Human form before summoning.
Also, I really wouldn’t recommend this if this is your first playthrough, but if you have the Master Keys you can literally skip over two huge areas of the game (Blighttown and Depths) and go straight to the second bell boss. The door to this place is at the beggining of New Londo if you’re coming from Firelink.
That’s all I can think of for now, ask more if you need more.
Moving onto a topic I’ve thought about for a long while now, I have a theory on Havel and I want to hear what you guys think of it in terms of probability.
-More specifically, I want to discuss why exactly he is locked down there in the Undead Burg. Now I know there have been a few good theories, the first one coming to mind being the popular Dark Souls Youtuber “EpicNameBro”. According to him, the man locked at the bottom of the tower actually isn’t even Havel, but one of his soldiers. He backs this up through Japanese text that states only Havel’s followers carried his ring, and brings up a lot of good points. However, I have to disagree with him. And here is why.
First off, we know Havel was a rebel. We know he was plotting some sort of insurrection against Gwyn, as you find his occult club in the hidden basement of Anor Londo along with the rest of his equipment. The occult club is further proof of this in itself because of the magic imbued within the weapon, which was something Gwyn was weak against.
Now, let’s look back a little. Do you remember in the Darkroot Basin, where you fight the moonlight butterfly? After this battle you go up a small tower to see a petrified smith, holding the key to the tower Havel was locked in. This leads me to believe a few things.
In my theory, this smith was a personal friend of Havel’s. I gather this from the key’s description. Furthermore, remember the occult club we were talking about? This club was MADE for Havel by this smith, because even though they both worked for Gwyn, they were both also part of the Darkwraith’s insurrection against Gwyn’s reign of fire.
What I believe happened, is that Gwyn somehow found out about the Darkwraith’s (and Havel’s) plan. We know that Gwyn at least knew about the Darkwraiths as a whole which is why he had New Londo flooded, hence you find all of the bodies at the bottom of the floor and actual members of the Darkwraith wearing the traditional armor. I imagine they’re still there because they’ve died and gone hollow, which is why they mindlessly attack you now. But I digress.
So, Gwyn learns of Havel’s treachery. He orders the smith to trick his best friend and locks him away in the tower for god knows how long, hence finding him down there. Then, to cover up whatever lose ends might be left, Gwyn orders Seath to take care of the blacksmith.
Why do I think Seath had involvement in this? Look at the moonlight butterfly.
Now look what enemy floods the area right before you fight Seath in the Crystal Cave.
Seath must have sent out one of his butterflies, and upon reaching the blacksmith it cursed him and he died, petrified in his spot. And now, however much time has passed after that point, you as the player come up there to see that the butterfly still guards his corpse, and you can see what remains of the situation.
TLDR: Gwyn had Havel’s best friend, the smith, lock him away in the tower and then disposed of the smith himself because of their treachery for joining the Darkwraiths.
i remember reading a more in depth faq then you presented which highlighted the same problems with the edition that in some of the descriptions it pointed to Havel having gone hollow and yes there was something to do with Seathe as Havel never trusted a turncoat made that sorcery to nullify magic ect and upon going hallow Gwyn couldnt kill his friend but instead had him imprisoned in the tower for eternity akin to the undead asylum that the other countries would throw their undead into so they wouldnt have to deal with them personally. In Gwyns case it was sympathy for a friend but Havel had figured out early on before the flame gutttered and Gwyn went to rekindle it that Seathe was up to no good. You get the ring off of his corspe. You get his knights Armaments in Anor Londo where they have been in the armory. His weapon is enshrined I believe it was also In Anor Londo and this could have something to do with the time manipulaiton in the game.
I.E meet Lautrec, summon Lautrec, Kill Lautrec, time reverts to the current time line find Lautrecs quite dead and hollowed cropse in the Chamber of the Princess. Same with the Other heros, King Roland’s corpse, Black Iron Tarkus, ect. The time sink leading to Artorias being corrupted and still alive after the cataclysmic loss of the kingdom of Sorcery, with some of Gwyns knights still living as in the case with Smough and Ornstein still alive and well guarding the last God gambit in AnorLondo then walking through the Oolacile ruins in the modern day Darkroot.
It’d be a lot easier to form an opinion on Havel’s story if he actually said something during your encounter with him… Same goes for Gwyn. Both theories sound plausible, considering the lore we’ve been given through item descriptions and locations.
I always assumed Gywn’s actions were out of vengeance, not sympathy.
If you think about it, it’s also possible that it all could have been Seath’s doing and Gwyn had little to do with it. Havel hated Seath for his use of magic. And yeah, that’s why all of his shit is pretty resistant to it.
Also, the place you find all of his armor and weapon wasn’t necessarily an armory. If you’ll recall it’s behind a hidden wall in a fireplace-like spot, and it’s hidden because of the occult club. That’s why it’s the only chest that’s booby trapped with a mimic, too.
I’m not sure I understand what you mean the last paragraph.
its pretty much the same way how people found out about the drake sword. Though the 1st time i beat the game i used the silver knight spear and pyro. Speaking of lore. I was watching some demon souls lore, and some people think the land of the giants is really Anor Londo, cause in dark souls they sure do talk about giants a lot.
that moment when you fall off a cliff going to pick your soul drop up
That’s just people trying too hard to see what’s not there. Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls aren’t connected in any way. The giants talked about in Demon’s Souls look waaay different than the ones in Dark Souls anyway.
You should watch A German Spy’s “Demon’s Souls In-Depth” playthrough.

Speaking of lore. I was watching some demon souls lore, and some people think the land of the giants is really Anor Londo, cause in dark souls they sure do talk about giants a lot.
It’s not. For a number of reasons.
The biggest one being Demon’s and Dark souls are separate worlds. They both are different universes that have their own timelines.
Secondly, Land of Giants was literally a land filled with mountainous creatures. Like, they are bigger than anything you’ll actually see in either souls games. Think closer to the size of the bones you actually find in Tomb of The Giants, except a lot bigger.
The beginning of the game (Demon’s Souls) even shows pictures of them as well as the war that went on between the Boletarian warriors and the giants who had been afflicted by the colorless fog. Boletaria obviously lost, and the hedgestone in the nexus was destroyed in an attempt to stop the chaos from spreading. Some wiki sources even go on to say that the effort was in vain, lol.
Imagine if you could’ve actually gone to that place though. The giants would’ve been amazing.
He talks about the Archstones and speculates on what the lore may be. Skip to around 44:05 for the Giant’s Archstone
Again, I suggest watching this entire playthrough.
Last paragraph what I meant was because the flow of time is so corrupt in Anor Londo You both befriend and kill Lautrec and find his old dead body outside o the chamber of the princess. Tarkus you feasibly help and mutually go through the guardian to get to Anor Londo only to find a very dead and hollow body laying discarded next to the portrait. King Roland you find his specific ring on a quite dead body. Meaning he made the pilgrimage only to go hollow as well. Every single NPC you find them both alive and dead with the exception of patches who at this point is some form of an immortal thief, even though he is pretty much just a running joke. Or strait up the god of thievery maybe?
So it is possible to find and fight the imprisoned hollow Havel that went hollow probably due to the madness of how Gwyn favored Seathe and there was nothing he could do to change his lieges mind. He went hollow then you find and kill him only later to find his Armor and Weapon in Anor Londo. His Sorcery being down below I have to think that, that body was a Havel Knight on his way to fight the last Ancient Dragon and went hollow there. Original design showed the chosen undead being able to fight the last Ancient Dragon and for whatever reason they scrapped the fight. This is only what I have pieced together so far and is my interpretation of events. I like that the demo made mention of Dark Souls II and in regards to Demon souls there is enough ties if you wish to stretch it to say that both worlds could be connected, it isn’t out of the realm of possibility. The Nexus connects to different worlds we know that the knight that are active came primarily from the south upward, Istrelle died in the valley Both the Finland siblings made the pilgrimage, The dwarves succumbed long ago and were warped into those lizard drones that were in thrall to the Dragon god. Tower of Latria, Boletaria are the two relatively untouched regions as you can find still living humans there. Everwhere else is a waste. Also the northern lands or land of the giants if they included the outlying kingdoms could represent the part of the world of Dark Souls as it has been permanately cursed and what little info there is seems to indicate that it is perpetually dark hinting vaguely at Anor Londo.
Again these are just some linking theories and as the original guy isn’t making any more games anytime soon its fun to play with. Who knows in DSII we may see more references to the Northern and Southern kingdoms that were just mentioned in passing after you sealed the Old one back up again and became more or less like the Ancient King in order to safe guard the nexus for all eternity.
they might have wanted demon souls land of the giants to be in dark souls, but they might have just scrapped the idea. And land of the giants was going to be dlc also but it never happened.

I guess you could tie them together like that. Tomb of The Giants being all that’s left of the colossal creatures, or something of the like… But going from the description of the place, as well as the pictures it shows of the land, it looks nothing like Lordran. I mean, these things look too big to even fit anywhere in Lordran lol. And while I agree it is fun to poke around with theories that could connect the two games, the evidence that they aren’t related in terms of lore is more than apparent. Miyazaki even said that the game is only a “spiritual successor” of Demon’s Souls, not a sequel.
Here’s the picture I keep referencing:
Also, the Nexus takes you to different locations in the world, not to actual different worlds.
And Boletaria and Latria are hardly “untoutched”, lol. You find a few NPC’s in those places that haven’t gone insane from the loss of their humanity, but other then that those places got just as fucked over by the fog as everything else did. In fact, Tower of Latria probably got hit the hardest out of all the regions.
Thats what I meant sorry, and that area is the Cairn of Gwyn. Bam!!! another connection!!! But they could do it if they wished. I love that picture. Very last alliance of elves and men look to it.
Probably one of the best art pieces from the Souls games, if not just a great work of art in itself. I love the detail in the vast amount of warriors flooding the battlefield. It really shows how hard humanity tried and yet, their best wasn’t even close to good enough. Those demons are just massive. You can even see the one on the right eating more and more souls…
Boletaria didn’t even stand a chance…
