I was watching the Apex 2013 match between Champ and ChrisG and I noticed something.
Whenever Chris G doesn’t have astral vision, he still shoots soul fists as if he has it, Doom missiles haven’t been shot at the time, on more than one occasion, Champ could’ve just beam hypered
ex: 11:54 Chris is calling Doom and about to shoot a soul fist, but at this point nothing is on the screen. He could’ve just DHC to Dormammu, X Factor Chaotic flame. He would’ve killed both Morrigan, and Doom. or wasted Morrigan’s X factor but still Doom would’ve died. Morrigan can ONLY safely flight cancel if she’s already in flight, Chris G was on the ground.
If he didn’t have Phoenix then he could’ve won, but since he needed those bars he didn’t do it.
I know that, I was just saying Champ was running his Mag/Dorm/Doom team instead he could’ve ended Chris G’s zoning earlier had he decided to use his bars and x factor
There’s a lot about this in the Nova forum. In general against a standing opponent just wait for the first part to hit, then go straight down, wait, s.LMH etc. If your opponent is in the air it gets trickier to convert off of.
I hate theorycraft. It’s like a scientist trying to figure out the formula for getting women horny–it ignores a huge part of what matters in favor of cold logic. But I had a thought in the shower that I should share, since I haven’t seen anyone try it yet (please don’t eat me alive if someone has exhausted this possibility extensively and I just happened to miss it.)
Someone should snap in ChrisG’s Virgil if they get a chance on Morrigan. That way-- deal with non-xfactor Virgil, hopefully get him on incoming with your best mix up. Morrigan gets pushed into 3rd. Doom comes in second, beat him, and you’ve got Xfactor 3 Morrigan, but she doesn’t have missiles and you can fly/avoid the XF3 soul fist insanity. People keep saying Morrigan is the problem, but most of ChrisG’s narrow escapes from defeat were because of those damn stray missiles. At the very least, you’ve messed with his order a little bit.
Or to make it appropriate for the general thread-- snap morrigan to screw up their order so you can take doom on first. DooMorrigan is easier to deal with.
I think most people would prefer to just kill Morrigan if they get the hit on her.
Aside from that, if you do kill off Vergil, but don’t hit Doom on the incoming mixup, they can DHC from doom into morrigan safely and you have to deal with morridoom all over again.
Snapping and killing Vergil would allow you to spend Xfactor on Morrigan though. Vergil is the reason you can’t Xfactor Morrigan in the first place, right?
and as for the DHC risk to correct his team, that’ll cost him two bars, which is also a good situation to be in. You might still have to fight MorriDoom, but at least you win if you beat them, instead of getting your last shreds of health slurped by XF3 Vergil.
Pick a character with flight and good mobility as your point like Trish
Pick Storm for the 2nd slot
Pick Morrigan with meter building assist for 3rd slot
Just take to the air, block, and call Morrigan’s meter building assist until you build 3 or 4 meters. With a character like Trish on point. Put down a ground trap, and just take to the air and block missiles and soul fists. Run away until you can accumulate 3-4 meters. When Morrigan calls Doom assist (being in the air is ideal for Trish), do Trish’s air Voltage hyper, if you hear Doom getting hit, DHC into Storm hail storm before missiles can hit Trish out of the air. Once Hail Storm ends, do another Hail Storm, repeat until Doom is gone. By this time, Morrigan will have taken alot of chip damage. Now you can fight her.
This strategy has worked on every Morrigan/Doom/Vergil Chris G wannabes online I’ve come across whether or not they have the execution for Bullet Hell or not.
I think it’s more of the “unused much” tier that people should focus on in battling Morridoom. We’ve tried the tops to the death and the rest who are not “top tier” are still great when played right.
Chris with Log trap or Jam (maybe Strider too) is my guess of a good anti-morridoom. Spiderman too with the right assists like HM or Jam would also be able to swing around and shoot out webzips and cause good mind games against morridoom… I’ve also heard that Deadpool’s keep away game can someone stuff morrigan here and there; i think him throwing out his guns + well called vajira’s or missiles can help allot… so that can be an idea. Sadly SRK will apply imagined match ups and the whole “top tier” nonsense.
Sadly, you’re only saying stuff you don’t even know yourself. Deadpool’s keepaway can’t counteract Morrigan’s keepaway because Morrigan wins in overall durability, air movement and rate of fireballs. It takes 8 out of the 10 bullets to beat out a single soulfist, but that only becomes relevant when both of them are on the ground, because in the air, j.M-guns won’t land all 10 on a fireball. Also, from full screen, Morrigan can projectile at angles that Deadpool has difficulty reaching (the height right below sj. height, where his H-guns won’t reach.) Astral Vision destroys any momentum Deadpool can get, because not only is he getting hit at several angles he can’t fight back, but it also takes away his option to do j.Guns, because on the way down he can’t block, which is just asking to get juggled by soulfists. & if you are going to call “well-timed Vajra’s” you might as well be playing Dante, Vergil or Wesker (the tops), because they can set up just as good teleport mixups and be able to kill of a Vajra confirm as opposed to Deadpool using both ground and wall bounces to do mediocre damage.
Like i said, i’m referencing on 2nd info for DP but it is possible if he has the right assists and good calling like Log trap or Jam to help against those angles that you claim to be problems. Next, you don’t need to land all “10” bullets you just need to disrupt the moment, i don’t care if only 2 bullets gets eaten at a clash rate just as long as the interruption is nailed.
Always consider a Character with the right chemistry in thinking of trying to counter another character who is working off the chemistry of her assist. The best strat that i think is an characters with an assist that can help close out angles for morrigan to swerve around on and the top 2 of that is Jam and Log, while Vajira is possible but requires much stricter calls and specific characters to run with it.
Regardless of my great post at the top. The actual character that i’ve seen put up a good fight against Morridoom is Mags/doom and Viper/Strider. Not actual counters but they can put a good fight
