Dedicated Thread: What we want in "ONLINE" Third Strike

I’ve been playing A LOT of 3S lately and I play Necro. I have been going head to head with just about every character, even good Chuns which I was even surprised by. The ONLY characters that really give me a really hard challenge is Yun and Yang. I hate those assholes LOL, but I just need to get better against them and play more top layers who use them.

If anything is done (even minor tweaks) then that could easily cause other balance problems with other characters.
I just as easily get destroyed by a top Akuma/Makoto /Dudley/Yang/Ken/Ryu/Urien/Oro/Ibuki as I do a Yun/Chun player. Hell, even Necro/Hugo/Elena/Q/Remy/Alex have their beast moments.

Maybe give a slight increase in health to Sean and Twelve. Or something similar that doesn’t change game play. BUT If one of a Necro/Hugo/Q/Oro/Ryu/Ibuki/Akuma//Elena/Remy/Alex/Twelve/ or Sean is buffed in anyway, then the others will have to as well.

IMO CHUN/YANG/YUN/KEN/DUDLEY/URIEN/MAKOTO need nothing extra to compete with any other character. Leave them alone and SLIGHTLY buff the others in some way IF anything is done at all.

I prefer 3S just perfect the way it is, BUT if anything is changed then just a few slight buffs in health/damage/etc.

I don’t know how viable this is but if they could release the the Strategy DVD that came with the JP Region limited edition with subtitles it would be amazing. Some of the content on that DVD is outdated by what we know about the game now but I maintain that if you could gain mastery of everything they show you for your character in that DVD you’d have a solid base and understanding of the game engine.

I’m mainly trying to think of material that will help the newcomers without having to compromise the game. 3s is a different game to 4 and in a lot of ways the Street Fighter universe at large and I would rather players approach the game that way as opposed to, “wah I can’t FADC my SRK!”

i’m sure they can program the cpu to do higher-damage bnbs in clear punishment situations (blocked uppercuts, supers, etc.) based on 11 years of 3S matches. i believe tekken 5 did a similar thing. they collected information based on players in the arcade, and programmed it as AI in one of the home versions. or they can let you record the dummy and use your inputs as a combo that the cpu will use. i don’t know how to implement any mind game processes but anything’s better than the current state. maybe your whiffed pokes can trigger attempted counter pokes, and it can be programmed to choose from a tree of logical choices while attacking (ken does typical low chain then either dash throw, c.mk, s.hk, attempt jump-in… but if the chain hit, he supers) and so on.

tbh, if the AI was similar to what it is now but generally more damaging, less random/psychic, and quickrising and air parrying more, it’ll make a big difference. i hope they can at least do that.

oh and if colour edit does make it in, let there be an option for players to disable an opponent’s custom palette (on your own screen). having to stare at people’s joke costumes in cvs2 probably wasn’t that fun.

^Ha, I could imagine

Yeah, what kind of info would be in those tutorial guides, exactly? Kara moves? Tachi/Clap Gigas? In-depth matchup info? Or would it end up being silly stuff like “You parry by pulling towards the attack on the joystick. Pro-tip:Sometimes you’ll have to pull down!” Would it be good to give the newbies and rusty ones a lot of info right away? They’ll ask anyway, and it’s not like when they do, everyone’s just going to say" LOLfind out yourself". Someone’s going to tell them eventually. It would be cool to get the community together to compile as much strategy and info into one solid package as possible, or would that be too much of a handout? It’s kind of a chore to look through the forums here for some of the characters.

The DVD showed BnB stuff in addition to some big punishes. For Urien it even showed how to do the midscreen unblockable and the Gouki segment showed some nice demon flip mixups.

YES. I hate watching ken vs dudley in russia. Looks stupid.

glad to see their are actually intelligent people posting in the 3s forums as opposed to the dudes getting into the fighting general discussion

pretty hyped for most of the suggestions here and cant wait for 3sO to be released

Those are some great ideas. They should also make a a playable non-boss version of Gill with more than just the regular two colors schemes that he has.

Nerfs:

Nerf Chun Li?s normals. Increase the time it takes SA2 to charge. Delete Kara-throw.
Nerf Yun?s Genei Gin, increase the time it takes to charge, and increase pushback on blocked opponents.
Nerf Makato?s SA2 juggle followup.
Nerf Urien?s Unblockable Aegis Reflector crossup. Urien builds less meter while Aegis is up.

Buffs:

Oro gets air projectile.
Remy?s SA3 becomes a grab super.
Sean is reverted back to his 2nd Impact version.
Alex?s Flash Chop reflects projectiles. Dive is safe on block and on hit. Air Knee Smash (non EX version) cannot be parried. SA1 can be comboed into and/or has some properties as Powerbomb.
Q?s speed for special moves (except command grab) are increased.

:u: Go play SF3: 4th Strike if you want those changes.

Why are so many people wanting 2I Sean. I got a great idea…fuck walking…we got ex tatsu instead.

Louiscipher: Lol at that list of buffs ripped from 4th Strike. I think somebody wants to be able to use low-tiers and throw out any old shit and not get punished for it…

Put some effort in dude. When I use the crap characters, I use them BECAUSE they are more of a challenge to win with, and I work my ass off with the limited tools each character has to get a victory. Not every game needs to be balanced, and it’s good to have some gross inequality in the 3S engine because that’s unfortunately what’s required to stop all characters feeling homogenous.

Go play 2I if you need Sean buffed (he doesn’t need buffing, by the way).

Can ya’ blame me? Lol. I like some of the ideas from 4th strike, but you can’t look me in the eye and say with a straight face that Alex, Sean, and Remy need no changes. Alex is pretty good as-is, but he needs a few little fixes to really bring him up to mid-tier. I don’t play Oro so I was just throwing that out there.

Low-tiers have always been my mains, and I’m telling you with a straight face that I think they need no changes.

The other thing you have to remember: 3S is the most spectacular spectator game around! The game is all about making the impossible possible, if you level the playing-field then fights like this don’t mean as much any more:

I agree dude, I’m not disputing your abilities. I used Alex when I first got into the game, then I started to listen to the tier lists and dropped him for Dudley, now I like Dudley but I played against this dude that raped me with Alex and showed me some tricks. Ever since I’ve mained Alex almost exclusively. Thanks for that match btw, I think 12 has untapped potential. But I’ll put it this way, if I were able to change only one character in the entire cast, I wouldn’t buff Alex, I would certainly nerf Chun. I’ve done many Alex vs Chun matches and if the Chun player is decent, it’s balls hard, and if they can parry really well, you’re fucked. There’s really nothing you can do unless you’re a god at parrying. Honest to god truth right there.

It’s cool! While I personally don’t want any changes at all, of any changes, I totally sympathise with the idea of nerfs to Chun and Yun because they are bullshit good. The knock-on effect of nerfing those two would be quite big for other characters I think, not sure if it would be in a good way or bad way.

I am open-minded to changes, but even the tiniest of changes has to be very carefully considered if we don’t want to change the fundamentals for each character.

Laser Gazelle & GaijinBlaze: Didnt think anyone would give a rats ass about the AI, I never had any real offline comp during the 3s days (pre 2007), and living in Europe (were arcades are even more dead then the US) it wasn’t till the X-Box 1 port came out that a lot of us could play against real fighting game fans who were into the game. I also wasn’t all that inspired to play the game until the Daigo parry at Evo 2004.

Unfortunately for me I lived in an apartment that had free internet access but was behind a proxy, thus I couldn’t use X-Box Live, so the best I could do was try and beat the game on the hardest setting without losing a round. I did this with Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Chun and Alex. I even recorded my playthroughs and upped them to Google video back (it didn’t have a 10 minute limit youtube had) just after Xmas 2005.

I may regret this because some of the play here is cringe worthy, but please keep in mind these videos are about 4 to 5 years old and Its against the CPU who can fall for some dumb shit (seriously, who uses Stungun Headbutt with Alex ?). This is also from a guy playing who never had any human comp at the time and learned most of what he knew from match vids, I also had to meet certain criteria like get as many Super KO’s as needed to fight Q.

So If you want an example of just how bad/random the AI is in 3s, look no further then these vids.Que extreme scrubiness!, or you can just skip to the end if you wanna see how I beat Gill :stuck_out_tongue:

Criteria = Beat the game on the hardest difficulty setting (8), no rounds lost, no continues, always select to fight Akuma/Gouki and get enough Super KO’s to fight Q.

Ken

Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike - Clear game, level 8, no rounds lost, Ken

Akuma

Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike - Clear game, level 8, no rounds lost, Akuma / Gouki

Chun Li

Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike - Clear game, level 8, no rounds lost, Chun Li

Alex

Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike - Clear game, level 8, no rounds lost,Alex

Ryu (the 1st and worst of the bunch)

Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike - Clear game, level 8, no rounds lost, Ryu.

Enjoy, or ask me for X amount of minutes of your life back :razzy:

I really don’t care what they add/change as long as I have the option to play the original arcade perfect version

Absolutely not.

dude you would get eaten alive against real opponents. All you do is jump in constantly.
