HD Remix does not include a worthwhile or acceptable port of the original SSFIIX (ST) arcade game for the fighting game community in the long term. The only way to play ST is the original arcade or the Dreamcast port. Just like MvC2 PS3 is not an acceptable port for the Marvel community which is why you see most majors and all money matches being done on the Dreamcast version.
Make no mistake. Anything but arcade perfect 3S for 3S Online means the death of 3S outside of Japan.
I know you said ‘I can handle shotos’, but this is one of the lines you wrote shortly after:
Instead of me misreading what you wrote, I think the fault lies with you and you should have phrased things different then. The emphasised parts above strongly suggest that even if you are okay at handling shotos, as soon as they stick out sweeps you panic and your mind goes blank or something, and you keep eating them.
As for me writing an essay to trash you, LOL. If you want to interpret that post as me trashing you then go ahead, but you’ve gotten the wrong end of the stick. Think about this: doesn’t it seem a bit pathetic of you to bitch and moan about hard match-ups when players like Hayao and Yamazaki work their asses off and earn amazing reputations? You just want success on a plate is all, and you don’t like people telling you to work for it. Those damn elitists!
Also, if you find it difficult to read passages of text more than a couple of paragraphs, I suggest you never go near a book. They are scary things. Many of them are even full of these so-called “paragraphs”, and often those paragraphs contain ‘reasoned arguments’. Avoid them like the plague.
What’s more amusing is the fact that you have no solid arguments, so you default to calling other people “elitists” so as to look like you still have something credible to say. I can accept criticisms, I just disagree with yours.
Dude, it’s rich of you to accuse me of not wanting a reasonable discussion when you refuse to even deal with most of the points I make. What a hypocrite. This is completely circular because you present a point, other people argue against it, then you claim that because they disagree they are elitists. Ignore it if people say “troll” or whatever, just respond to their point if there is one. If you have a good argument to most of what I’ve said that doesn’t revert to ‘you lot are elitist’ then let’s hear it.

Right. For one thing, they still only use the HD sprites, which I hate because they’re ugly as sin. Second, I thought I heard somewhere that Classic mode was basically the Dreamcast port, which wasn’t considered arcade-perfect. But I’ll admit I’m not too knowledgeable regarding the issue so I’ll take your word for it I guess.
Yeah, we’re all pretty much repeating ourselves at this point. This is getting kinda dull.
this.
hate the player, not the game

oh…this thread hurts my head.
just a little point,i don’t really agree with these people that are saying ‘gay’ a lot and just going on about chun.
i don’t have any problem with any thing specific about 3s characters but i do know the game has some odd highs and lows regarding advantages and disadvantages.
the other thing.
keep it the same with online because we want to be competetive with japan.
how many people fall into that catagory?
about 100, maybe more but just from america.
everyone knows america cant play online properly because they have rubbish internet.
so i’m wondering what this game would bring to you over how you play 3s atm.
you cant be dying to play lots of newer low level fighters from your area, surely?
basically my arguement for a rebalanced mode would be:
-
i’m never going to be able to compete with japanese 3s players in thoery, in person or even online (probably)
-
the number of players that need this to be arcade perfect with online is too few and most likely too american for me to care about them at all.(they can play 3s how they have for the past 10 years)
-
i want to have lots of players to play against online here in europe with a good game that is rebalanced so we can all start from the same page (abouts) and hopefully build a new community around this new version.
rebalanced verion:
more chance of new players
more chance of commericial success (new version is more interesting than re-release - fact)
more chance of sf3 series popularity revival
original version
small chance a small amount of hardcore american players will be happy.
i hope hyper sf3 happens
im not a top player but imo…
whatever we get for online 3s… japan will have first and if it’s worth anything they’ll be playing it as well (especially if it plays well online). so i rather see after really thinking about it and smh at my earlier posts about this subject is a sf3 collection type game cus that brings a whole boat load of “happy accidents” that can be a bunch of unknowns when it comes to match ups but brings something fresh and new instead of just appealing to the same core players that still play 3s. the core 3s players get arcade perfect 3s but get new match ups to learn. so i think that’s worth more then the cheap xbox live arcade price tag they put on it.
why not celebrate the whole sf3 series and respect the history of it in the same way the zero/sf2 series has? i mean the zero/sf2 series faded naturally* by how strong the player base for those games were in the states now. i think a hyper sf3 version like that would hold stronger because its played so differently from every other series theres more options and variables. and truly with each version of sf3 they added more to the system that allows u to get over more with increased effort (red parries in 3s, ex’s in 2nd impact).
a hyper version is by far the easiest and most respectful way to bring about something NEW (unless u make a 4th strike but that’s not cheap). even if ppl cringe at how off or strong some of the old characters were i think the depth of the series will be a better counter to that because of how different the 3 series is compared to zero and sf2.
*when i say fade away i mean the flux of competitive players competing and new players coming in getting better at the game. they all have some kind of scene still but comparing it to there strongest point all games have faded.
u will have a broader range of competitive characters as well sean, akuma, ibuki will make a strong addition to the top tier that’s in 3s with there older versions no one can know for sure exactly HOW strong (or stronger) they will be against the top in 3s but it’s speculation until we get a game that gives us the chance to play it out. i think it’ll be a welcome addition after it’s all said and done. better to have it then not.

I honestly don’t think the game should be changed at all. I mean if think you about it, 3s has been out for 11 years… The fact that people are still playing it alone is a feat but it’s not only casually played, people are still very passionate about this game. Changing the game would be such a slap in the face to a game that’s made it’s mark in fighting game history as being one of, if not the best fighting games, ever. Remix’ would just please the casuals and the people that gave up after realizing the game had such a huge learning curve. So many things were developed over the 11 years, I couldn’t even imagine what the game would be like if it were changed.
Like… it amazes me that people played this game so much they unlocked things that weren’t even meant to be apart of the game… Uriens unblockables, Chun’s two kara throws, Makotos full stun, Dudleys insane juggle combos/confirms, SGGK’s, TKD, DED, SJC/Selects, Partitions, Tachi Gigas, Keeper-jin, True Palms, Late teching, ect ect… all this shit over 11 years, changing sean would mean they would have to work on the 3s engine and could potentially fuck something up, and who knows what the hell Capcom would change while they’re in there, they might take away the ability to do any of the said things or the fucking 100’s of others I didn’t say. Leave the game alone.

Have you played the first two games at all?
When you look at the direction capcom is going with the SF series its very, very likely that we will not ever get another SF game with the steep learning curve 3s has. look at all the adjustments they are making in the 4 series. all they are doing is adding new characters and nerfing/buffing the others. and its all being done in an effort to please the casual player
when i get on ggpo even the players that are new to 3s play it like its 4. its not in Capcom’s best intersest to cater to casual players with 4 and then give them something thats hard to learn like 3s. we are in a new era where games like 3s and the type of players who would put in the time and effort to learn 3s are gone. This is another reason why i would love the game to remain in its pure original form. all of the rebalance people are asking for is in the 4 series
any rebalance Capcom applies to 3s will be to make it more scrub friendly. the proof is in the actions they are taking with 4. (this is not my opinion, the proof is the game of ssf4!!) just look at all the buffs/nerfs they made from vanilla to super now to the ssf4 arcade version. it’s all in an effort to make it more scrub firendly

This is something I’ve been wanting to say but waited for a chance to get this off my chest:
If 3rd Strike was ever as popular and backed by Capcom as SF4, then I’d probably agree with Mr List.
But it wasn’t, and isn’t. If there was Youtube back when the game came out, then we’d probably see the game in a different light much sooner. But it took five Japanese players crushing the US in 2002 for us to see brand new stuff(Tokido introduced the Aegis Unblockables to the US then). It took a sort-of viral video in the form of the Daigo parry for the game to really take off, in 2004.
Other than that, there was really no backing of this game like you’ve seen in the SF2 games, the Alpha series or especially SF4. Toyota in a sense gave us more support than Capcom did, and that’s just sad.
Now there are some SF4 players showing some interest in 3rd Strike, largely because of the now easily accessible combo/match videos(GGPO may be another reason as well). They’re showing interest in the game that the die-hard players MADE interesting. So why should they get a watered-down version? Just so they can get some easier wins? It’s probably hard to understand, but I just can’t agree with that for the same reason I never agreed with the changes in HD Remix(not to mention I hate the new sprites).

how about… fuck i gotta face chun AND MOV?
cause i wouldnt be scared if MOV used sean.
WORD SON???
boldest statement i think ive ever heard on SRK. good shit lol
MOV’s Sean is 10th dan.You would probably get raped.
You know what? I can respect the old guard (is that a better term than elitist?) wanting the game to remain the same. I get that. You all know my opinion, and I’m not going to reiterate.
But I think we can all agree that online is top priority. I want the online to be godly, the next best thing to offline play. I just want to play Coast to Coast without problems and without the rules of the game changing because of lag. If GGPO netcode can achieve this, go for it. If not, work on a netcode that can achieve this. By the time this game comes out it will be 2011, one of the greatest fighters of all time deserves platinum style net code. I also like the suggestions of an indepth training mode, and even a ‘make your own challenges’ mode too.
Yeah if online is godlike then we could see a revival of the game.Alot of people will play the game on the strength of it’s netcode regardless of whether or not they like the game system. If it’s the first fighting game to have amazing netcode on a console people will buy it.
