First of all, I’m excited. But then I asked myself, why? We have GGPO, what will be the difference? Will there even be one?
I’ve read comments like “Hey, it will perfect if they just don’t change the game.” Well that would be entirely true if this weren’t “ONLINE” Third Strike.
Third Strike with lag is a completely different game, things change drastically with frame disadvantage in this game because the sprites move VERY quickly, try teching a dash grab against someone on GGPO with 75+ ping, it’s do-able sure, but offline it’s rarely an option to even TRY and dash grab.
I’m not sure if we can get a better online experience than GGPO, but if possible we can only hope for the best possible option available. That being said, things I’d personally like to be included.
Offline Goodies.
Arcade PERFECT Port (Pretty sure this isn’t even discussable.)
Extensive Training Mode. (Options: Hit Boxes, Frame Data, Onscreen Input List, Better Recording features.)
Character Colors (Option: Ability to customize your very own unique color pallete for online originality.)
Remastered HD Sound (Would prefer for it not to be “remixed” as the original soundtrack is incredible.)
Saving Matches (This option was available on the PS2 but was extremely buggy, hopefully a fix will come.)
Redrawn Stages (I love the original 3s but it would be nice to see some of the beautiful backgrounds really “pop”.
Widescreen Mode (A must, the majority of us don’t game on CRT’s anymore.)
Q Theme (Great song, needs to have the ability to be played by choosing Q as 2P and Online.)
Saved Matches Library (Having the ability to watch matches you recorded online.)
Start/Pause (Maybe make this where you have to hold it down for 3-5 seconds, I’ve accidentally restarted my game too many times.)
Online Goodies.
Third Strike Netcode (Needs an updated netcode to be played more smoothly, using the one from HDR won’t fly.)
Online Battle Points/Danisen Rankings (Either or, they pretty much have the same concept.)
Spectating Matches (If this doesn’t mess with the players in-game lag.)
Recording Matches (Option to save to HDD for later viewing.)
Achievements/Ranks (Why not?)
Game Changes.
Remixed (If the game is going to be “remixed” as in balance changes, having the classic version is MANDATORY.)
Redrawn Sprites (I’d love for the classic sprites JUST to be spruced up so that they pop in HD, but I’d suggest if you take the Udon approach to have this only for the “remix” version as it will take away from the classic feel of the classic it is.
My changelist:
[]Training mode +1
[]Spectating +1
[]Match Recording/Viewing +1
[]Option to limit by continent (for lag )
[]HDR button check – and allow this on the character select screen (unless Namco holds that patent, too…)
[]Redrawn backgrounds / optional image filters

Widescreen mode (this is supported by CPS3 right?)
As for the “NO” to balance changes, a SIMPLE one would be to talk to some Japanese pros, and then adjust meter size & gain speed.
You can have 3S classic mode.
An actual record feature in training mode. Parry training can only do so much.
As for online, I think it’ll turn out well. GGPO 3S would be a lot better if Ponder had the CPS-III source code. CPS-III games transmit ALL the game’s information, instead of just the essential data. A good computer and connection is mandatory for both players in order to have a smooth game. Now, both players will be using the exact same hardware and I’m assuming Capcom has the source code for their own board.
really, all i care about is that it’s arcade perfect. if it’s not a full effort to really rebalance it, then just leave it as it is. i dun want to see anything change that wasn’t thought about extensively.
and metric’s suggestion of a training mode is a MUST! i’m just going to assume they’re going to put that in. that’s standard. to not have it would be backwards.
i can’t totally agree with people who say the game is perfectly fine as it is (i mostly agree x]). but i can agree that any changes that would be made in attempt to rebalance the game might just screw up the “feel” and fun of 3S.
Not gonna add anything since this is pretty much my list as well. As long as it’s a direct arcade port with good netcode and all the online fluff expected of a title these days it’ll be fine.
Just PLEASE, do not fucking split the community with anything HDR-style. Please.
The widescreen support is still there in the rom (region 0x80) they have to redraw the backgrounds and HUD in order to use it but using this also changes the size of the battle field.
Everything Metric said plus other stuff that may have been mentioned
Kurodas…cough* excuse me um Q’s stage music outside of arcade mode etc etc =P
-battle points stuff etc etc or possibly make a Danisan mode where players compete with specific characters just like japan
annd for the love of God Almighty, Do NOT change ANYTHING else, I love 3s because its 3s, if its changed to remix or whatever the fuck ppl WISH for then its not 3s anymore
What I want is an option like in HDR. When you can either decide the normal 3s version or the remixed 3s version. If I have the choice and I can just play on the regular arcade port of 3s. I dont care how much they change the remixed version because I wont be using it.
Though yes overall if they change it without an option I will be pissed.
Hey I love 3s as much as any of you, but why are you so opposed to a remix version. As long as it has both versions who cares?
Some small changes like characters gaining meter faster/slower, changing the super cancel ability of some normals. Obviously if they change too much they’ll just make more mistakes. As long as the changes are small, they wont need to patch it again.
for a game thats as sophisticated as 3s to last 10+ years it seemed way ahead of its time and it doesnt need a remix version because there is nothing to remix
but i guess if they have both versions then whatever but ppl will still go back to their roots and play original 3s regardless
what they could do is make it like the double impact disc, or anniversary edition disc where there are 2 games in one and with that you can do whatever the flip you want with the remix and just leave (praying to GOD) arcade port 3s ALONE
Having the visible hitbox option from HDR’s training mode would be fantastic. Aside from that, I’d prefer that the gameplay and characters themselves just aren’t changed.
Edit: @the OP: Lag is inevitable. Even if it’s just by a few frames it will make a difference. imho the benefits of playing online hinge most on who you play (So that you don’t eat shit you normally would, like the aforementioned dash into throw). I couldn’t give less of a fuck about whether the game has ranked or such, I’d just like to be able to play people who know what they’re doing and learn the game, since GGPO isn’t an option for me.
