  good stuff.

That’s pretty much a given no matter who won the election.

Yeah, somebody in my church told me about this. Also according to the article that I mentioned earlier, some presidents like Lincoln, Einsenhower, Jefferson and a few others are black based on this rule.

Yup, but his point is that Obama might not live up to many peoples expectations.

Considering what a huge basting the Republicans have gotten in the last two elections, anyone think that the surviving Republicans will have to be a bit more open to the Democrats’ policies than they otherwise would be? Many of them were barely reelected, even the Republicans’ Mr. Senate, Mitch McConnell, so they know that they’re on the hook to maybe get tossed out if they don’t let the Democrats pass the legislation that a significant majority of the country really wants to see. The Dems don’t have 60 seats in the Senate, so the 40+ Republicans can basically act like a roadblock for any potential legislation, but I think they’d be idiots to actually do that.

I hope they realize they need to drop dem bible thumping morons and get back to what it’s all about. Making government smaller, letting states have more say and restoring personal liberties.

I doubt they’ll pick up any of the democratic fiscal policies. I know I was definitely put off by the thought of choosing between big government and bigger government. If they actually stayed true to the republican ideals they could be very attractive to voters.

^—No doubt. The Republican party needs to drop this American Jesus bullshit.
I’ve always considered myself conservative, but it’s been too long since I could truly be comfortable voting anything Republican.

While I think it’s true personally…

the bible thumping shit is the only thing on republicans side right now. Look at the way gay marriage was treated across the country. Nobody in the south cares about economic policies, they care about jesus and abortions. It would be a stupid move on their part.

It seems like the Republicans are making themselves less and less appealing to anyone besides their base as they’ve increased the importance of moral issues in their platform. I can’t imagine a party strongly based on an opposition to abortion and gay marriage being very competitive 15 years from now, and I think the landslide yesterday is an indication of that (but then again, Prop 8 passed in CA!). Those kinds of viewpoints just seem too exclusive for a major party.

You should see my brother then ask that same question. The doctors even tried to categorise him as white when he was born. Even to this day people find it hard to believe he has any black in him. They even have a hard time believing him and I have the same parents. What’s even more hilarious is that I’m darker then my own mother, who was conceived by two African Americans and people rarely perceive me as being black.

I think Havoc said it best that America see’s us by our skin tone then try to categorise us. There in lies the problem. That’s why we have racism. That’s why we have affirmative action. That’s why civil rights were created cause of the fundamental problem that America can’t see past our skin tones.

You could always present your major talking points first - you know, regarding the policies that actually matter - and tack on guns and Jesus at the bottom instead of the other way around.

Not true at ALL. Atleast, not true in Texas (for the vast majority). Most people I talk to here and back home in Houston vote Republican because they typically keep taxes low and try and keep government small. The Bush administration and I’d even say Reagan are the unfortunate exceptions (Or path) that led me to vote Democrat on my first election.

It’s great the Republican party got pummeled this election… Hopefully we’ll see the rebirth of true Conservatism as a result.

While we’re on the subject, much like the sex of a child is decided by the father, traditionally, race in the US is determined solely by the mother. Until recent years, the birth records would show whatever race the mother was as the race of the child.

I’m arab/white, raised by my white mother for the most part, went to a white school, even complemented/mocked because my speech was very good/too white (talking about dutch not english). But in the end, I feel little to no connection with my white “heritage” or even my white family aside from my mother. It’s just not me, and I’ve always gravitated to non white people in my social life.

I don’t feel there is anything white for me to rep.

I can imagine black/white Americans would feel the same.

I think highlighting a more federalist position can appeal to a lot of people including people in the bible belt. And having the position closer to what is known as the californian conservative will help in the independents. I think McCain lost like 10% of the independents that Bush got last election and also it’ll help them tap into the younger vote.

prop 8 has already been formally challenged - http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/state/20081105-0820-ca-gaymarriage-legalchallenge.html

I wouldn’t discount the possibility that those bible belt voters care about economics. It’s just that when posed with the decision of eternal damnation, or being poor for 4 years, its an easy decision to make. If we extracted the fire and brimstone from politics, we might see these people be interested in real issues.

I had a professor (of African American studies) who was a light-skinned black guy, and he said that back in the day some of his relatives who were even more light-skinned than he was moved to another state and started living as white people, and it worked. If they’d stayed wherever he was from, where people knew them, they would have stayed black people, but all it took for them to become white was for them to move to a place where people didn’t know that they were black.

Oh, you mean the Maverick Hunters?
When was tha last good Megaman X anyways??

not checking the whole thread
did someone put this already?

so strongly agree about republicans needing to drop the jesus bullshit

conservatives have a lot to offer, but religion is not one of them. keep that shit out of government pls. kthx.

Several times. Might start constituting an infraction soon. :amazed:
