Well HUD and character art is not really an issue it’s a preference. Stuff like being unable to leave a lobby or your character being invisible is an issue.
needs to be a patch for alot of things with this game…
This game plays like Backyard Wrestling 2.
watching vids from versus. man 3s looks and sounds so good on arcade. fucking capcom… ruined 3rd strike online for me. thank you derek neal.
Although this is nice…what I never understood is making letters to Capcom via threads that Capcom rarely ever personally goes out and reads through for themselves. I’m having trouble asking for things from the admin of this very website about this specific forum…I doubt somebody from outside the forum is going to pay much more attention to the forum.
I wouldn’t do anything like this without making sure it gets a big thread at Capcom Unity or something. I really doubt Capcom ever actually reads anything in here even though this site holds pretty much their most hardcore fans that don’t have a versus city cab of the game an hour away from them. It’s sad but I’m pretty sure you gotta do more than this for Capcom/S-Kill/Derek Neal to notice.
the arcade rom had 7 entries per character palette(64 colours), plus 7 more for the lifebar icons(16 colours), and another one for the select screen icon(64 colours) shared with the warrior path- btw, gill and shin gouki had entries there, on the select screen and warrior path.
Eventhough, the select screen’s was copy/pasted from the character LP pal, and had mostly these same 64 colours with some changed (which meant a lot of unused colours) and a bunch values for the gradient behind the warrior path portrait, the lifebar portrait wasn’t exactly the same as the LP character palette.
The devs sampled some colours on the main LP one but added some new colours, like ibuki’s, sean’s, or ryu’s which do not use an ingame sprite and have a different lightning.
Still, this shouldn’t be a big issue.
Wether the 3S OE devs scrapped the original code for the lifebar portraits or not, they still could crop a sprite and paste it up there, so it could share the same pal, or copy paste it from the char pal.
They wouldn’t be the exact same as the arcade, but that would at least make more sense than reducing a huge drawing to the size of a stamp. Plus it would look ok.
Bottom line, please capcom, amongst all the things you have to fix, change this too. Please.
That’s really bizarre. My assumption was always that they simply had the character color’s palette tied to the lifebar portrait. As in just using the same reference in game. They actually use different colors in some cases? That seems like extra work for really no reason unless I’m missing something. Or just due to limitations determined by design choices earlier on in development (as far as file structure/organization).
Cool info. I should really make some custom palettes myself.
If I’m not making sense it’s probably because I’m thinking of this like working with color organization in CSS.
Well, they’ve said that they read* all* the threads on SRK about the game, so… Maybe they’re lying and just saying it to say it, or maybe they actually do. Who knows.
/shrug
my bad. i’ve used palmod so i know about the separate mini palette for the lifebar pics, but what i meant was that it essentially still functions as sprite art with an easily customizable palette, provided that the rgb values of the main sprite are known and are transferred over properly.
if the old hud is brought back, i hope the transparent grid effect is applied to the red health. seems like an elusive feature that never makes the cut on console.
there should be a setting to make it look like this:

it would have been so easy there would have been no complains, even without the pseudo scanlines.
