Reversal option during hitstun is bad for fighting games as well. What are they going to do about that one?
You couldn’t hold out of hitstun in DOA anyway, only out of critical stun.
I read about this on TFG and while I’m happy about it I think they’re somewhat missing the point. Yes it seems somewhat unbalanced with characters being DLC only but the bigger issue is the fact DLC is a fucking rip off and always has been. Just another way for game companies to get paid again and again and again and again for the game they only released once. Unless it’s capcom then there are multiple versions and even more DLC to download. Can’t wait for Super Street Fighter IV turbo hyper arcade edition 2013 X Tekken Tag Tournament 2 EX special Capcom edition.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I miss the days when companies would release FULL games. Not half a game with more to come later.
I have no issue with content they make after the game is released, such as costumes and stages.
However, players’ issues are typically paying for content already completed and on the disc.
As Mike Z has previously explained. Those days never really happened with fighters. The only difference is that you had to buy a disc instead of download content.
Care to elaborate or link?
From the old Skullgirls General thread. Basically Mike said that back in the day, we had to pay full price for a simple balance patch (SFII CE, HF, A2’, A2 Gold, etc.). And that even a couple of new characters would cost an entire game (New Challengers, 2nd Impact, etc.)
I can see where he’s coming from then. I suppose that being the case DLC is much less of a rip off for fighting games than it is other games.
Don’t forget also that those were typically arcade upgrades so the games were priced in the 100s if not 1000s of dollars. Additionally, you had the issue of the suicide battery where the game board would die after 3-5 years and you’d have to send it back to Capcom to ‘repair’ it. In other words, a stone age version of DRM.
Is DoA a stick friendly game? I saw some of the gameplay at the mini E3 tournament/gameplay and im interested in the game. Also hows the outlook on the netcode? Just a couple questions.
DoA can be played reasonably well with stick, and it’s actually preferable when trying to slow-escape (stagger in other games). On the other hand, certain characters have required 33 inputs which can end up being wonky on stick due to the more lenient buffering system. That said, it’s not a game you really require stick for, and there’s plenty of characters that don’t have the 33 issue either if you really are more comfortable with stick.
About the net-code I can probably answer that to an extent. Team Ninja recently stated they are dropping the DoA4 interactive lobbies in favor for a higher-quality online experience. Thats pretty much all thats been told concerning online net-code.
Although I’ve become accustomed to arcade stick use for fighting games now (was a pad user up through DOA4 with some stick use in DOA3 after dropping DOA4 like it’s hot), I really think that pad players and hitbox users are at an advantage in the controls department.
My main reason for saying so is that the controller allows input from either of the two analog sticks and the directional pad. This allows you to basically use up to three different control mechanisms at once. You can mash 7 on the left analog stick and 1 on the right analog stick and you’ll get an instant korean back dash to occur. You can see this when you see “Master” or “Chosen1” playing in the E3 stream. I imagine you can do this similarly by holding 4 on a hitbox while alternating between 8 and 2.
Off topic, but many people also don’t realize that holding 2 will automatically guard low attacks. So now that the okizeme game has been returned to mid/low kick attacks, you can once again just hold 2 on a oki kick spammer and react to a mid kick easily by inputting 4H.
You cannot do this on official HitBoxes using Toodle’s Cthulhu chip since Toodle’s filters out SOCDs (Simultaneous Opposing Cardinal Direction) on those. Hitting up and down at the same time gives you an up, so hitting 7 and 1 at the same time will simply give you a 7. Not sure if the newer Akishop PS360+ versions do the same as well. However, SOCDs have generally been looked down upon and in some tournaments, being caught using them could lead to a DQ.
EDIT: If Team NINJA is smart, they’ll make the game filter these out as well.
I wasn’t saying hitting 7 and 1 at the same time. I was saying alternating the two, holding 4 would lock it into the back direction and alternating between 8 and 2 will give you an alternating 7 and 1 which is what the controllers are able to do.
You can do that on a stick as well. If it’s reaction time you’re worried about, then you can just modify the stick to lessen the engage distance. The microswitch for back is always engaged while you swing the lever from :ub: to :db:.
Some more news regarding Pre-order bonuses at GameStop and Amazon depending on which one you want. Gamestop gives you** bunny suit-style swimsuits** for Kasumi, Hitomi, and Leifang. While Amazon gives you Black swimsuits for Ayane, Christie, and Tina. Expect these to be time limited pre-order exclusives until they drop as dlc. I also assume they are different then the “premium Swimsuits” you get from the collectors edition which i also assume will eventually be dlc.
Also Team Ninja announced that last weekend that New characters in a New movie will be revealed **this weekend. **
Here is list of collector edition stuff:
•** A set of premium swimsuits for the full cast of playable female characters**
• An art book
• The CD soundtrack
• A poster of the DOA5 cast
• High-quality embossed metal case
I might have to skip this because I’m not even sure if the CD soundtrack will even have character-based themes In DOA5 like they did in the past. That would be disappointing if it were true because IMO this series had the best music for a 3d fighter.
Kickin’!
They will probably focus on Bass and Sarah, since we already saw them before.
But I’m all for other characters being revealed.
Yea, by looking at the screens posted the other day, I wouldn’t be at all suprised if they show Sarah & Bass this weekend.
