It’s definitely not as good as Tekken or VF, but as long as you don’t get too deep into the game it’s a fun enough casual experience.

DOA4 actually has some depth to it, and it is fun to play casually. However Tekken and VF are much better designed games IMO. However DOA takes first prize in eye candy! Lol, if you have a lot of cold and lonely nights this is your game.

DOA DOES have a lot of depth to it. It’s not just button mashing and counter-whoring like everyone says it is. Not even close. Counter-whoring in any match with a competent player will get you anally sodomized. So will button mashing.

Yes, DOA has some very serious flaws, but it isn’t as horrible as people seem to think it is.

DOA4 is fun and I enjoyed the game when I played it. But, saying DOA4 is better then VF5 in terms of gameplay is like saying Pong is better than Virtua Tennis. Or something.

The majority of the hate spawned from DOA is propaganda. The game’s hate is subject to alot of bandwagoning.
Most people don’t actually know why they hate it, and say stupid stuff like “It has counters” and “Too much sex appeal”.

Revealed in a December 2004 interview by Game Informer magazine, Itagaki’s inspiration for the series derived from the Fatal Fury series in Japan and the Mortal Kombat series in America. In the development, he based DOA’s fast gameplay and sexual appeal from the former, and the series’ ability to knock opponents off landscapes from the latter:

"I wanted to do something that would attract people’s attention as I worked on the DOA game. Of course, DOA is known for its bouncing breasts. Well, I didn’t come up with that idea originally. I actually got the idea from one of SNK’s 2D fighting games Garou Densetsu. Of course, when I applied it to a 3D game, it was almost too much for people.

And of course, it hurts to fall off from high places in DOA, but the idea came from Mortal Kombat. In the case of Mortal Kombat, the 2D fighter, the character falls off and he simply dies. That ends the game. That’s it. But we figured it would be more interesting to have the character continue to fight after the fall. And that’s what we did"

Oh shit!? Yes, there were lots of games before DOA that females with huge tits and sex appeal.
However, somehow we conviently forget that.

The game’s engine I won’t go into too much, because I don’t know it too well.
However, I know it enough to say that if someone actually tried to play another person who knows the game properly, they would get the shit kicked out of them.

I don’t even play the game seriously.
I’m just tired of the fan-hate…

this thread still going on? DOA sucks cause the gameplay is miles better in VF and tekken. also comparing the sexy ladies of FF to those ugly ass ones in DOA is a crime. having 1 or 2 good looking bitches who know how to fight is a good thing. having a cast with over 50% (make that 80%) with bikinis isn’t my idea for a good fighter. i bet most DOA players and people who actually buy the series would be far happier if the game was 100% females and all of them nude. shit.

p.s. DOA has the worst worst character designs in a fighter, not a lot of fighters have as shitty designs as DOA. only MK can compete IMO, and some unknown shitty fighters.
