DC Comics Thread

^ I picked Aquaman as well today… Finally getting his respect. Long over due and I hope good stuff for the series.

http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/joshw24/news/?a=47384 news for Superman #1

Have to admit I liked Aquaman. :wow:

It was cool how the public in the comic viewed Aquaman as a joke the same way I do. It’s a clever way to endear us to him since deep down most of us want to root for an underdog.

Sure I’ll pick up issue 2 at least but don’t know beyond that.

I love / hate Johns and AYO right now.

I died laughing when the cop offered him a cup of water…and he had that face like >_<

Aquaman looked like he wanted to give him a water-hand assisted pimp slap right then.

Awesome, I have the power to influence and win over Sano through both love and hate. It’s nice to have options.

Aquaman #1:
Is it odd that I liked the panel where it showed Aquaman getting nicked by a bullet and bleeding? The bleeding wasn’t too sever, but something about that panel was good.
I thought the issue was great, and what Sano said about the Aquaman interview was spot on, I expect later issues to get better though.

Hawkman #1:
50-50 about it ATM, it’s by Tony S. Daniel and I don’t think I’ve liked much of what he wrote in some books. Will keep reading and see if I’ll stay on it though.

Blackhawks #1:
It’s OK, hope later issues are better though.

JL Dark #1:
Fantastic IMO, and I know this is gonna sound weird but Zatanna is one superheroine who doesn’t need pants =V

Flash #1:
Ending was WTF, let’s see if Manuel can deliver.

Teen Titans #1:
Was OK IMO, hope later issues improve. I rather like Tim’s Red Robin outfit BTW.

All-Star Western #1:
Great art and a great story, anyone who hasn’t gotten this book is missing out (looking at you Sano).

GL: New Guardians #1:
WTF, seriously, WTF. Kyle’s gonna have some serious shit to deal with next issue.

Stormwatch #1:
Great issue I’d say, this is one I forgot about until I realized it was by Cornell. IIRC, The Authority were an offshoot of Stormwatch right? Odd they were made Stormwatch to begin with but this book seems promising.

All I can say is, this new 52 is starting with a blast with some good stories and writing (for the most part) IMO.

Anyone got sales figures for the books?

Just remembered my local comic store is gonna have Tony Bedard for signing on New Guardians and Blue Beetle today.

^^Lol at Rayner turning one of the guardians into some anime doll sort.

That was brilliant IMO, lol.
Ask Bedrad if there are any plans for REBELS/LEGION and/or Brianiac 2 in general.

I actually bought Superman #1. Some of the reviews really bashed it. But it was actually pretty descent. I wonder if the enourmous amount of text is what pull the negative reviews. Ill add it to my give 3-4 chapters chance isle.

Found my copy of Superman #1 and read it, it was…okay, I had a lot of issues with it though.

To wordy, it was very much the definition of set-up issue, and trying to do to much in to little of space. Was really ridiculous in the first four pages then mellowed out.

Why do we have windows of dialogue written like a novel? I have NEVER seen this in a comic before and it’s really weird, describing something I can see. Why isn’t any of this just Superman’s internal monologue? Really a stupid thing to have.

Errors, anyone notice that the Police chopper is saying what the New Chopper should and vice versa?

Jimmy Olson: We get it, you want him to be Bieber Olson but it’s really ridiculous.

It wasn’t the worst comic I read but it had enough problems that need to be sorted out, I am commited to getting these comics for at least three issues before I cull the rest. So if Superman doesn’t shape up in two issues it’s getting the axe.

Sad, I want to read Superman so badly but both of the comics gave me mixed to meh reactions.

I liked some of the stuff going on with Superman #1 and I really liked the end, but yea, largely a let down.

For some reason I see they use Superman#1 as a comparison to their “reboot”. Like how the Daily Planet was completely renovated, even sporting a new “name”. Even saying people are afraid of change etc. Of course clark is like >_< in the air. Im most def gonna give it a 3 issues chance.

Partially OT but since we mentioned having another character poll here I wanted to toss up CBR’s results for their character poll. They did top 50 Marvel and top 50 DC.

Once again Emma Frost beats out every other Marvel female. Like I always say she does in polls but it’s good to have one poll as evidence. We were discussing Rogue’s popularity too in the Marvel thread and she’s not trailing that far behind, but there’s a few more X women over her.

The big reason I’m tossing this up here and not the Marvel thread though (besides laziness ha ha) is that Dick Grayson nabbed spot #3 for DC! Looks like his Batman run gave him a popularity boost.

Good for Dick, being a fan of his since I was practically born has it’s perks I guess.

…no homo.

Thor over Wolverine makes me quite happy, I’ve been sick of Wolverine for so long, it is a new era!

No Jason Todd in the top 50 confuses me :S

Lol everyone hates JT. Blame Judd Winick and Superboy Prime punching a hole in REALITY to bring him back to life. Or Jeph Loeb for planting the seed that allowed him to come back during Hush. Or Countdown, the storyline that was so bad DC retconned it out of existence THE VERY NEXT WEEK with Final Crisis. Hell that’s the fastest retcon since the second story of creation in the Bible. I think that the only piece of continuity that survived Countdown was JT’s Red Robin stint and that’s probably it.

I don’t think the current Red Hood / Slutfire contraversy is doing him any favors either.

And even before all of this stuff, fans did vote for him to get killed off originally.

So far the only one who has used JT in a good way IMHO was Morrison during Batman and Robin. He leaned more towards the Lazarus pit over the retcon punch so if you want you can take that as an erasure to Judd being retarted.

Oh and the Under The Hood animation was really good. Like 1,000 times better than the actual comic. That’s probably the second best Jason Todd I’ve seen in the last few years.

Providing of course in the Teen Titans cartoon Red X wasn’t Jason Todd heh heh! Eh guess we’ll never know.

Uh…wasn’t it already revealed in that series that Red X is
Robin?
There was a second Red X later after Robin retired the identity. I don’t even like that PoS show and I know that 'Zoc BAH GAWD!

lol, well I didn’t follow the show much myself =P
If anything it had the best Starfire outfit =V

Yeah, when the second Red X showed up on Teen Titans Beast Boy drew a chalk board with people it could possibly be. One of the people was a fat little guy in a Robin outfit called ‘Jason Todd.’

Some people automatically dismissed it because JT has never showed up in the DCAU, but just me personally the longer the TT series went on the less I thought it was connected to the DCAU. Possibly connected to ‘The Batman.’ If you want to connect it to something. I think the show works better as it’s own thing. It’s still up to viewers to decide.

I’m sure it was a joke but I always found it a bit odd that the Red Hood mystery started around the same time the Red X one did. Or strangely coincidental at least.

Though yeah Murakami says he knows who Red X is but will never reveal it so kind of a dead issue.

And LOL I loved TT. Screw all that anime crap people got hung up over. That Robin kicked ass.

We could always torture him for useless information. WATERBOARD MURAKAMI!
