DC Comics Thread

Posted it in the bat thread yesterday, but forgot to post here. Looks interesting to me, but it’ll all depend on how competent of a writer he turns out to be.

They’ll be back

They’ve been back, it’s called “Brightest Day” Aquaman is so baller in it, zombie sharks for the win.

Semi-being a smartass, but it’s cool that the zombie versions might return in some form or another. I don’t want the BLC to disappear all-together as I think it’s an awesome concept. Anyone get Superman: Grounded yet? I’d like to hear what everyone thinks before I pick it up tomorrow.

The Brave and the Bold #35 was hilarious
"we could always call Dan Didio"
“who?”
“nevermind”

AYO: i picked up Grounded ill give my thoughts a bit later

Who are the two heroes? I don’t know if my store carries it, but if so I want to get it just because I love BatB and JMS.

Inferior Five and Legion of substitute Heroes

Oh damn, if Porcupine Pete is on the team that’ll be a sweet issue.

Wondering what else comes out this week besides Superman that I want, might get the Gorilla-Man mini but don’t know.

GROUNDED Superman #701:
I have to say that i liked it, it’s realy superman walking and getting in touch with regular people
and helping with everyday problems, be it drugs, a girl who want to jump from a building or just helping someone with his car
JMS realy shows that Superman has an effect on people just by him being Superman and one simple word from him can convince people to do important stuff that will help them in the short and the long run

Good read

Good to hear Darksoul, thanks. Glad it has a positive start, just hope JMS can keep the momentum going with it.

You need to pick it up and judge for yourself
Cause it’s a type of stories that won’t apply to anyone
I enjoyed it but some people will probaly find superman waiting for the light to change so he cross to the other side of the street a bit boring

I Have yet to read grounded 1 but based on darksoul’s review it might be interesting…

I just WON’T LIKE it if they ponder too much on Politics and state laws… or at least if they go into Detail about it (Lotsa things in the real world won’t apply to the superhero world so PLEASE do not lampshade that in grim detail)

About the “Lanterns”

My Theory on Brightest Day (it’s a theory not a spoiler)

is that the Heroes brought back AREN’T Really alive, or at least it isn’t their Consciousness. The same way the Black Rings download all the dead people’s information would probably be true to how the white rings also work (although the white rings portray the personalities spot oon while the black rings perverted them), and that somewhere within, the Black rings are still buried within them trying to get out.

I’m trying to find a trope for this set up hmmm…

I enjoyed the first issue of ‘Grounded’ as well. Pretty much agree with everything Darksoul173 said.

Hey is it just me or did that photographer outside of the Diner in Grounded look kinda like Peter Parker? Eh it’s probably just me and I couldn’t make out a wedding ring for it to matter, to me anyway.

Big up to Morrison writing Batman this week too. Filling in the gaps between Batman and Final Crisis! :clapdos: I still don’t understand Final Crisis though. :looney:

Yeah same here, and Rugal, from what I’ve read there doesn’t seem to be any political talk and such.
I’m gonna try and convince my friend and brother to give it a read

Even after I outlined it to you in a previous post? =3

LOL I understand what it was about and just try to break these things down to bare bones. Man=Batman kills Satan=Darksied and Man dies, God=Superman mourns - and other stuff he did that I forgot about because I was blinded with 3D images in Supes Beyond - :looney: - and that’s it.

I just don’t particularly try to understand the last issue of FC. Understanding everything is overrated. I just took it as Morrison’s take on how these crossovers are so steeped in continuity that you can’t make a lot of sense of them anyway and called it a day.

It’s like looking at a painting. What it will mean to someone it will mean something to someone else entirely. It’s basically whatever you walk away with. Sure you can go read whatever Morrison has to say about it I guess even though it really shouldn’t change what you walked away with.

And I walked away with making jokes about how I don’t understand it. Morrison HIMSELF can send me a PM describing the entire thing and I’ll stick to my corny internet jokes because what’s left after that really? :clown:

Remember Batman’s Funeral by Gaiman? Morrison was asked about it and he said that the story was out of continuity, because of course Batman isn’t dead. The interviewer (I THIIIIINK it was on Newsarama) offered that perhaps the funeral was what Batman saw in his mind after being zapped by the ray. And then IIRC Morrison said something like “Um, okay…” In a lot of instances some of these things are best left for readers to determine, what it means for them and so on.

And for me the last issue of FC just meant internet jokes. Oh come on I can’t mine Superboy Prime punching out reality forever…

That’s Green Lantern?

Also Tomasi and Gleason (GLC) will take over Batman and Robin starting november

Looks alright I guess. Don’t know about the haircut they gave Ryan though. Maybe it’s just not really a good picture.

Yeah Batman and Robin should really end after Morrison leaves the book IMHO. Just sayin’…

Well Tomasi and Gleason are great but it’s Morrison’s baby after all
I guess will get an announcment about what Morrison will handle either at SDCC or in the next few days

Hmm nice outfit, lame mask, but I think it’ll work out in the end.

My DC pick-up’s from yesterday was a lot bigger than I wanted, could have gone without one but impulse buying is my specialty:

Blackest Night Hardcover (This was the impulse buy)
Booster Gold trades #1 and #2
Superman #701
Batman #701
The Mighty Crusaders #1

First off Grounded: I am sort of mixed about it, but definitely interested enough to return. JMS IMO was a little heavy handed on the whole hero rant Superman went through, the comic itself was only really redeemed during the saving of the jumping girl, there was something very innocent and special about that and it perfectly captured Superman’s character to me. I honestly don’t know how I feel about this series, so I need a bit more time for JMS to show me what he has planned.

Batman #701: I haven’t read RIP or Final Crises yet, and it was just in my folder so it was added in. I hardly understand any of it, but the art is pretty.

Booster Gold trades: I LOVE THEM! I find it really shocking and surprising to me personally that this is what I practically read all night long, I got into like one issue of Blackest Night. This? I already read both trades and want more. It’s got great characterization, some truly laugh out loud moments, and a touch of personal tragedy to make it all just so wonderful to read. I am definitely hopping on the Booster Gold Bandwagon from this point onward.

I saved a $55 variant of BD: Generations Lost as well, and a store policy (Since the owner always over-orders just to get variants) is based on the price amount of the variant, you get so many comics for free upon purchase. So buying this I get like 8 free comics, which is just enough to net me the rest of Generations, the whole Spidey/Kraven thing, and whatever I get in next week.
