What track record? SF4 is the only major fighting game title he’s produced.
Lol at people acting like they know Ono. Like they call him at home. Like they have dorsal fins.
I’ve never seen so many people willing to throw away wonderful opportunities because of complete guesses as to what the end result would be. What if it does suck? Who cares? The old games will still be there for you to play. But…what if it doesn’t suck? Or what if it’s different, but fun in a new way? Great, and great.
Either way, YOU LOSE NOTHING.
And, don’t give me this, “I’d rather have no new DS games than a new bad one.” That’s just rhetoric. I don’t even think people who say that truly believe it, and if you do that’s pretty selfish. Who would rather have a beloved franchise drift away to obscurity, rather than have new generations exposed to it? What you don’t like having new comp?
How do you know Ono would NOT make the game similar to SFIV? Have some proof?
I’m not talking about engines in the way you speak of; I’m talking about developer intent and the way he goes about creating the game.
I don’t like Ono and how he does things, nor do I believe in him to keep the spirit of the series intact in lieu of the indrustry’s general view these days (if it sells, no matter what, do it).
The whole reason people are bitching about this is exactly because it IS Ono who is making it, and Capcom (not to mention most of the gaming indrustry) is the way they are now.
You all speak like you know that the game is going to be unlike SFIV. So you must have some backing to that. The burden of proof doesn’t lie with me, sry.
What’s funny about SFIV to me is that the game didn’t even have to be made that way; since it got hyped and advertised to hell it would’ve sold regardless. Like I said, license it out to someone like Akira or get someone from the older games to do it.
look, the fact is, regardless if it’s ono or not, if we don’t get another darkstalkers game now, we may never get another one again.
I’m all for it. What do we have to lose? If a new DS is made and the old hardcore players don’t like it, they can just go back to shuffling about with their old game, while the new crowd will pick up the new one. I like Darkstalkers better than Street Fighter and would like to see it resurrected.
Why would he make it like SFIV? DS isn’t SFIV, it’s DS. If he made it anything like SFIV there’d be a whole fan base of people who’d be pissed. Fair enough he can change SFIV and make it whatever he wants, because Street Fighter is an expansive franchise with many incarnations (SFII, SFIII, SFIV, SFA, x vs SF, and so on). Unlike the DS series, which has it’s own system and is actually bound to some limitations that make it what it is.
Yeah, I’ve been thinking this too. If Capcom doesn’t revive Darkstalkers(or Cyberbots or Rival Schools) now during the “fighter comeback” window, I don’t see another such chance coming in at least 10-20 years. If ever.
It’s kinda silly to say you’d rather have no new game, even if it would be bad it wouldn’t change what you have now.
Guess what, we can’t prove anything BECAUSE THE GAME DOESN’T EXIST YET.
That’s where we’re at right now…simply getting the game made.
THEN when that happens, people can argue about whether it’s like SF4 or not. THEN you can feel free to turn your nose up at the idea, because THEN you can see with your own eyes whether it’s like SF4 or not.
But, NOW, if you don’t support the game getting made at all, you’ll never know one way or the other, which is stupid.
Quoted for truth. Also, Tech Romancer, you make it sound like Capcom didn’t do a great job with SFIV… which they did. It’s not the best (I don’t even know if it’s close) SF but it revived the SF franchise. Maybe Capcom could do the same with DS?
*** Aha, a remake of Rival Schools? That would be the day
Lots of top players seem to think otherwise. Personally I dislike Street Fighter in general, so I don’t really care if they did a good job or not. However, I’ve heard plenty of complaints about SF4.
I did appreciate the attempt at creating a new art style even if they did make the characters uglier than before (which I didn’t think possible)
Darkstalkers has far more attractive characters than SF. If they stuff up with Rikuo or Jedah’s models (or God forbid, Hsein-Ko or BB Hood) THEN I will have some reason to whine.
Your rapin yourself. First time Capcom has made a decent fighter (wait a decent real “spanking new” fighter) in ages.
That is a DAMN GOOD TRY. It was rushed,:lame: and that’s why the game didn’t live up to the hype. Like Ol boy said above me. If we don’t get one soon we won’t ever get another one.
Plus, Halloween is coming up too:xeye:. It’d be a great time to announce seeing as we have threads being spammed all over Capcom’s faces about another one. And another thing **How Are any of the Darkstalkers fans gonna get mad cuz it dont live to the expectations on release? **I dont remember the last time someone gave a damn about the gameplay of the Darkstalkers series. Because only a select chosen few from the hardcore crew knows anything even remotely deep about the mechanics.
Everyone played Darkstalkers and Savior when it comes to casuals. Most vampire players from what I can collect actually prefered Hunter. But most american players kind of missed the boat on that one. The only real exposure that had was through the OVAs (even though that has nothing to do with this convo:blush:).
So who exactly is going to remember if Darkstalkers was a deep game or not? Or let alone have an OG community. All folks remember is that game with monsters that played like street fighter but wasnt well known enough.
SF has such a long run in being a staple that people had the right to reserve judgement if the newest addition ended up sucking in the eyes of the community. Darkstalkers NEVER HAD THAT LUXURY.
Now as far as the 15 hardcore ppl or more who plays this game:pleased:. I’m pretty sure they will reserve judgment if it ever gets announced, but overall they’ll be happy to get another installment because like I said…
Darkstalkers NEVER HAD THAT LUXURY, and any fresh start for Darkstalkers----Is A Good Start.
like somebody else mentioned,
all the people saying they dont want it because they might not like something about it…tut.
you have nothing now.what have you got to lose by having a new ds game?
nothing.what can you gain?
if they were to do it i think it would needs its own unique look/style to really make it work well in 3d.
(much like how sf4 was based on sumi whatsits)
i dont think plain normal cell shading is good enough for the task.
in all honesty i am not sure that cell shading would be better than actual textured 3d work.
they could give it a really dark and gothic look using normal 3d game techniques instead of cell shading.
adding things like depth of field and grain produces the flat effect that poeple crave from cell shading with this type of graphical style.
edit
some 3d gothic pics from google to show something along the lines of what i was saying:
I honestly think the SF4 engine is perfectly fine for DS. The main gripe I had with SF4 was that it was just all too silly in 3D. With 2D sprites, the exaggeration comes across better, but it’s just really goofy in SF4. Saying that though, the DS characters are quite goofy in nature from the way they get hit to a lot of their attacks. The only issue might be I don’t currently like the lighting in SF4 as the dark areas make it difficult to enjoy the visuals and obviously DS is a very dark game.
The only thing I might agree with is that who knows if the mainstream will eat it up or not. We really don’t know. Just no paintbrush strokes for DS please. Leave that in SF4.
which is why he’ll try to sell as many copies as possible.
How will he try to do that? by toning down the engine mecahnics so a wide range of skill levels can play and thus making more people more likely to buy it. If the engine mechanics are to high level, the lower skill level people won’t be likely to buy it. How do I know this? look in the VS ggpo room.
