A nickname for a certain group of people who worked on the game. That’s what I was told. When they just so happen to get together on a project they call themselves “Dirty Beret”. Not everyone who worked on the game is part of Dirty Beret and who they are specifically, is a mystery. Hell, Idk if the info I read was even accurate, to be honest. I asked that on SRK or Capcom BBS a looooooooong time ago.

They leave you tantalizing snips and rumors about secret characters; half the time, they never do anything with the mystery characters – they’re just background/crowd figures --, the other half they deliver with characters like Akuma and Gouken. Akuma was referred to at least 2-3 games in the SFII series before the character’s debut in Super Street Fighter II Turbo… Bison referred to him as “the Ancient One.” Akuma even had a cameo in the SF II anime feature that’s easy to miss if you take your eyes off the TV screen for too long!
As for Gouken, the character’s name changed over the years (Shen Long at one point???) but it was understood at least that he was the master of both Ryu and Ken. His blood relationship to Akuma wasn’t finalized until sometime before SF IV was released… they’re brothers.
There was an anime called Street Fighter Alpha Generations which strongly implies Akuma is Ryu’s father. It was released prior to SF Alpha: The Movie… It wasn’t very well-received and is considered out-of-SF-continuity and Capcom generally doesn’t talk about it anymore. The blood relationship between Akuma and Ryu is now considered apocryphal; that bit of story was transferred to Gouken who was previously stated as not being a blood relation of Akuma/Gouka on the SF Alpha Generations movie. What confuses matters even more is the similarity between the names of three characters in the film: Gouki (Akuma), Gouken (Ken and Ryu’s master), and Goutetsu (the master of both Gouki and Gouken). The animation was half-decent but the story itself was a mess… This animated film didn’t even get a Japanese release until the live-action Chun-Li film was released on home video in Japan! The SF Alpha Gen movie was included as a bonus on that film’s DVD/BD releases.
Yeah, I never understood the whole Harry Beret character and why they never did anything with the design suggested by the intros on Vampire Hunter 2 and Vampire Savior 2.
It might have just been Capcom’s version of “April Fool’s.”

Dirty Beret is a group of programmers. They used Akuma with a beret for their logo in Savior because they were the ones who usually programmed Akuma in every game he was in. That’s all there is to it as far as I know.

Is there an archive of the event? I main Jedah and I kinda feel like he’s subpar so it’d be cool to see him in action and WINNING! And the Japanese keep doing well with Lilith, I thought she was supposed to be trash, like one of the worst.

I’m not a fan of sliding techniques in general, so I prefer the piano method in the last part of the vid, but that shows you a few ways.
