Dark Slayer Style - The Vergil General Discussion Thread

It’s probably pretty safe at this point to compile his frame data although it is rather misleading since it makes him as if he will die if anything gets blocked. I’ll put it up tonight I guess.

Thank you very much :3

No probs. It would help because when you really understand how he works the frames are pretty good overall and his L and M normals IMO are better frame wise than Dante’s. Only real thing Dante has better is rapid fire c.L and his s.L has more range.

Check my Vergil thread thread for the frame update soon.

I thought Taskmaster’s arrows were better suited for left/right mixups. What’s your opinion on a team of Vergil/Trish/Taskmaster Deviljin? I think Tasky makes a decent anchor, and I like setting up unblockables using Trish’s round harvest and Taskmaster’s headbutt. The only problem is I don’t have an OTG assist? Do you think this is a viable team, or should I go with Vergil/Trish/Doom and run hidden missiles for the OTG assist, and some pressure/mixup if I can protect him long enough. Trish can protect him well, but Vergil, mehh.

The assists I use are: Vergil - Rapid Slash, Trish - Peekaboo, Taskmaster - Arrows (front), and for the Doom team, same assists and Doctor Doom’s Hidden Missiles. Thinking about using Judgment Cut with DT though, since it’s basically a better Dark Hole. Any advice?

**Edit: **Anyone else if free to chime in with advice if they have any ideas. The biggest problem I have with this team is when people approach super-jump height and wait out Taskmaster/Vergil in X-Factor. Or fly away the whole time. Should I attempt airthrows? Hard to do on Hsien-ko and people who spam normals while flying high up. Thanks guys, could really use some ideas.

With the first team since you don’t have an OTG assist you’re just going to have to play for the mix up and build bar with Vergil. Any fast assist like task arrows really compliments Vergil’s left/right game and it doesn’t scale that much for combos. Trish fares off a little better without OTG assist now that she can OTG super on her own also. Task definitely does make a solid anchor and is good at laming out other anchors and still converts into hella damage off throws.

Vergil/Trish/Doom sounds solid as long as you know it can extend Vergil’s combos nicely also. Vergil IMO would prefer a beam style assist but hidden missiles doesn’t hurt either and Trish goes really well with missiles. DT assists are always nice if you can find a way to set it up.

Against people laming up at the top of the screen you just have to be patient and see if you can wait for their air actions to clear up and hit them as they’re coming down. Hidden missiles assist is good for helping bring lame out characters to the ground if you’re having immediate trouble. Vergil and Task both have solid air throw games so if worst comes to worst you can always fish grab.

Fish grab? Lol. Just faced a pretty tough MODOK who was laming at the top of the screen. Drones assist and Wesker Level 4. That team was difficult, won about 4 out of 25. Working on it though. I need to control the screen better. Thanks for complimenting my team ideas. Just wanted to make sure it was a viable team. Don’t hold back to tell me it isn’t if not. Thanks regardless.

Sorry if I’m just dumb but I have to ask this as I just started to really play Vergil…is there specific timing to landing Dimension slash after a high time?

I’m starting to think I may have a messed up copy or something but no matter what I try I can’t connect or cancel dimension slash off of high time and I need to know is it a certain time you have to input it or is it easy to cancel it for you guys and I need to swap copies for a not messed up one.

Any help is very appreciated.

Use M+H to do the dimension slash. High time is only cancellable with H, and that teleport can be cancelled into dimension slash. Streamline that by using M+H or L+H.

Stuff like this is pretty easily found already discussed to death. Should be all over the combo thread if you’re having more problems.

What was patched out for Vergil this past week? I don’t get what they meant in the patch notes.

I was wondering the same thing. It said something like you can’t drum the buttons for teleport cancel j.2h anymore, but for me it feels the same as before.

I find that manual input for trick after helm breaker works just as well, which kind of makes the change pointless. Also, swag points for Helm Breaker being able to connect in DT after a wallbounce Trick H. Vergil feels like an old school boss character in DT, which is awesome. Good job Capcom.

Vergil’s sL and sM cover plenty of horizontal space but no vertical space so they’re not good for anti air, his best anti-air move is probably his standing S.

So apparently Vergil can’t front throw on the ground while round trip is out. Seems like a programming oversight to me. It’s probably setup so that if you do Stinger within a certain range you get throw instead, but since you can’t stinger while round trip is out you can no longer front throw as well.

Edit: The TK Dimension Slash gimmick from the bible is always a cross-up, but if you do Trick H and cancel it into Dimension Slash suddenly it’s “lol how do I block this.” Still gimmicky, but still stupid.

Here’s my Vergil combo video that I think you guys might be interested in. Check it out!

So Spiral Swords + Lunar Phase is driving me nuts. I just can’t get Lunar Phase to consistently give me all the hits unless I’m in the corner.
Can anyone give me the requirements necessary to make this happen? I do notice that they have to be at a certain height, and sometimes I crouch to make sure that they drop a little bit, but then they randomly fall out of Spiral Swords =(

Any help would be appreciated.

Vergil to me is like Hakumen really strong but needs meter but Vergil is more accessible with combos.
What place is he best at(1st/2nd/3rd)? I keep him at 3 but he usually dies real fast.

Helm Breaker Hitbox

3rd is probably the weakest position you can put him on, he can be a decent anchor but you have to play very carefully and really manage your meter well. He works very well on point where he can benefit most from your assists or 2nd were he’ll have the most meter to play with.

Thanks I’ll try having him as 2nd so my main can build meter for him

This sounds like something worth trying. I play him as an anchor, but I can easily change him with Doom for the 2nd spot. I hope he can get along with Cap’s shield assist, because I’m using Hidden Missiles with Doom instead of Plasma Beam.
