Dan The Man AE 2012 Changes

You know, with enough practice, you can feel when EX Danku is an appropriate follow up. The difference between a cl.MP > LK.Danku hitting early on and cl.MP > LK.Danku hitting in later frames is stark.

Just wanted to check in with the experts - I personally feel like the MP & HP versions of Koryuken trade a lot more than they used to… anyone else feel the same? I’m gonna mess around in Training mode to check.

They don’t trade more than they did before, no. It’s just that since Arcade Edition, the midair reset occurs on trades now, which makes the trades much more visible when they happen. Prevents us from doing HK Danku/Haoh Gadoken as a free trade followup as well!

Yup… that was my way of reasoning too, but then that didn’t work out properly since the follow up was possible after hitting standing Ryu with cl.MP xx L. Dankuukyaku but not after hitting a crouching Dudley with cl.MP xx L. Dankuukyaku, and I really felt that they both got hit by the very end of the knee move… so… my personal conclusion is that it’s something about the characters’ hurtboxes that makes this setup quite unreliable… Sure, maybe the knee used on Dudley was hitting like 1 frame earlier, making the juggle gap insufficient for an airborne EX Dankuukyaku… but if that’s the case, then I don’t think you’ll be able to see these differences in real matches. I mean, noticing if the knee hits at the vary last frame or one frame earlier? Seems… robotic. This is why I probably will keep juggling with EX Kouryuuken instead, when I feel that’s useful.

It’s much larger than 1 frame if you’re good at getting out the EX Danku follow-up at the minimum height.

Either way, you have about 40 frames to confirm. That’s well within the confines of fleshy human reactions to practically mull over and debate when the Danku actually landed…

Does that mean I simply failed to pull the combo off on crouching Dudley? Only asking because I’ve not been having access to my console for some time so I can’t experiment myself…

I don’t know, it depends how large Dudley’s crouching hitbox is. It’s very rare to land super-meaty Danku on certain characters because they’re such big fatties. I haven’t tested the cast for LK.Danku Saikyo Meatability Quotients™ yet.

Haha… oops… I tested the combo on crouching Dudley in training mode just now and it seems like it was me who messed up. How awkward. =P Oh well… I still question the reliability on the setup since it requires both good reaction on how the L. Dankuukyaku hits and really good execution for performing the airborne EX Dankuukyaku with the exact correct timing.

I like how Dan has his CVS2 Aerial Dan Kicks.

Say hello to my new sub.
