Again, if you get good with your dashes you can dash right underneath air fireballs and punish accordingly.
Nifty thing against Sakura you can standing lk dankyaku over her fireballs if you get the timing right.
Unless someone can show me otherwise, Dan vs turtle Guile is one of the worst matchups in the game. I don’t feel as powerless against Akuma as I do Guile just holding db.
Why not try setting up for throws and pressure mix-ups against Turtle Guile does that work?
In general, other than avoiding obvious projectiles, I’m jumping a lot less with Dan. Danku can be a good safe distance closing, plus it sets up his throw easily.
Can’t set up throws if he spaces booms correctly (or incorrectly, in many cases). The only way to close range is FA, jump, or danku. FA fails because Guile recovers fast enough that he can sweep you while you run in. Jump fails because that’s a classic boom/flash setup. Danku of any type fails because the Guile has enough time to do another boom or even a flash when he sees Dan coming in.
Doing pokes for pressure doesn’t work because a simple boom or sweep puts you back in defensive even on block. Doing FA upclose is risky because of flash.
And, as said before, Dan doesn’t do enough damage in any case even after he does get a get a combo in after dealing with all of this. The most damage would come from an extremely risky FA -> Ultra, and even that’s gonna be just 40% fully metered.
^ completely agree with the above analysis…
so… any solutions whatsoever?
Come now people. This is DAN we’re talking about. Focus absorb like mad, jump over booms to replenish life, and taunt until they advance!
And if all else fails ask for some Dan buffs.
^I too was thinking of an alternative of such really; lure turtling Guiles for an opening by playing keep away. If only Dan’s Taunts gave him Super meter energy
Still can Dan Kara cancel his FA like how Boxer can Kara Cancel his FA into Ultra?
Yeah, if only. But still, even if you did taunt, you’d still have to deal with booms and ex booms in the Guile matchup.
And none of his ex moves help out much anyway. Ex danku is less risky distance closer, and a good throw setup when you’re in his flash range. But everything else is worthless.
lol. The funny thing about Dan is that whenever there’s a glaring problem with his game, it’s either supposed to be that or it’s a happy accident on Capcom’s part.
If there’s ever a SF4: Dash or whatever, I expect Dan to be the same or worse.
vs air fb akuma has anyone tried like a late jump taunt to fly over the fireball and following uppercut? im gonna play like 1000 games tonight with dan to see how that whole shindig works but mostly to make people angry when they lose bp to me <3
Close-ish air short dan kick and jumping short both stuff flash kicks; farther short dan kick, jumping short, and jumping roundhouse beat or trad with flash kicks; and from farther out air short dan kick and jumping fierce/roundhouse beat crouching fierce. Crossup jumping forward makes flash kicks whiff.
Pressuring with pokes and dan kicks is totally fine. Like against most of the cast, sure, you run the risk of getting reversaled out of your pressure. That’s not Guile-specific, and you can bait that kind of thing like always. I like Dan’s footsies against Guile’s, I like focusing through the 2nd hit of his sweep and then dashing back, I like how short dan kick beats Guile’s pokes, and I like how short dan kick beats or goes past flash kick/ultra.
I don’t think this is a particularly bad matchup at all.
I’ve tried that b4… but you have some recovery on the ground afterwards where you’re vulnerable.
Let us know how your testing goes.
In my experience, dan knee trades most of the time, and Guile wins that in damage. I’m very weary to use any of Dan’s bleh jumping hard attacks, especially since a mistimed attack means a flash on average.
Guile’s flash beats cross-up in many cases that I’ve tried, since it’s just holding down then up for the other person.

The thing is against the couple of extremely turtly Guiles I played, there were no reversal attempts. The only “reversal” was sticking out c.MK or sweep, which would hit before danku can get off the ground. Any danku that did get off the ground (usually because of range) was met with a flash.
I do FA the 2nd hit of the sweep, but that is very little damage; less damage than a standard mid attack or poke string actually.
I’ll give it another go. Maybe it’s not bad, and I just need to stop sucking. I have problems with turtles in general, but Guile just seems a simple nightmare to deal with as Dan.
if he’s not throwing reversals start doing cross up mix up until he does start reverseling, then bait it. Also remember, dans throw has good range on it, and theres lots of good options to tick with if he’s not reverselling you, and even if he is if you time your crossups right he’ll flash kick the wrong way.
jump = flash kick
you gotta bait flash kicks like shoryukens. Easier said than done i know, but that seems like the best strategy for me. Especially after knock down. Try going for FA while hes down but as hes about to get up, cancel it to backdash. Walk up, grab/combo/whatever. Always watch out for the double trip. As much as it kills me having to wait and bait people (Im a Guilty Gear fanatic) it seems like the centerpiece to the Street Fighter way.
Oh, and I found out from about mid range, constant backdashes can out run Fei Longs ultra lol.
Do an early jump and land and block, plus like I said if you time it right his reversal flash kick goes the wrong direction(it’s kinda tough to do that though).
I don’t know the blanka match up or anything but So far the only way Ive found to punish a blanka ball is, Reversal Taunt super xx Ultra. Ultra alone won’t reach.
Blanka is the worst match up I’ve ever faced, even terrible blankas are tough for me to beat. I pretty much just stay super far away from him and build meter and koryuken blanka balls on reaction(if he’s far enough away otherwise I just block). If I try to play at all offensively I just get wrecked.
I HATE HATE HATE Blanka. Even high difficulty CPU wrecks me. Ive been struggling with time attack 11 because of him and guile.
