I saw one of the best possible things to do with dan ever on a video.
If your opponent is a gadoken chip away from death combo a gadoken into a super taunt, and they are forced to watch the entire super taunt animation over their lifeless corpse.

I beleive most supers are a good counter against ultras mainly because of the lower frame startup.
Am I the only that thinks Dan kinda looks like Steve Seagal with the long ponytail and being laughed at for silly martial arts?
Which taunt has the shortest recovery time before you can cancel it? (I think I asked this before but can’t remember where it was)
Yes, you are.
just a quick question i main elf but im seriously considering maining dan been toying around with him does his flying knee knock blanka and or honda out of there headbutt/ball?? and does his ex hurricane kick go through fireballs???
Not sure about the headbutt, pretty sure the Blanka Ballocks would beat out the knee.
EX Dankuu has no invulnerability, it’s just fast, so no you’d end up flying into fireballs but might trade with the first hit of it if close enough.
knee will trade with ball sometimes, in blankas favor so its not a good tactic.
all I know is for the next update for this game.
invulnerability start frames on danku anyone? My god that shit would be beastly, imagine if pokes couldnt knock you out of your saikyo knees start up, people would be fleeing for their lives from dan.
I’ll second all of this. Dan’s knee is beautiful for dodging those “IT’S GOING TO OWN HIM” attacks, since it gives him a slight hop/hover… and I love to spam gadoukens when someone is running away. At first, they think it’s just me being stupid, then they see the first bar fill up…
Also, gadouken > annoying characters. I use it a LOT when I’m fighting the guys that give me trouble, like Blanka. Makes them think twice about spamming the ball.
So I had a little fun with the corner juggle that Sanford showed in :
Koryuken FADC j.MP
It works with every Koryuken (it doesn’t work if you FADC after the second hit of EX Koryuken). With HP Koryu, it does 215 damage and 300 stun for 2 EX bars, so it’s better to do that instead of Koryuken FADC EX Koryuken (200 damage, 300 stun for 3 EX bars). You land a bit sooner than your opponent, which is useful to apply some more pressure on him (don’t immediately use a throw or you’ll whiff). I’ll try it on all the characters later today, to see if it works on everyone.
A new discovery for me today… You all know when you get a FA crumple but the opponent is in mid air they twirl away from you[in mid air]. You can still dash in and get your ultra in. D: Just did it online. I’ve tried this with some other characters I dabble on and it does not work.
I’d be careful with using Air Dankuu to get over stuff, you’re open to punishment on landing.
Cool stuff, I’ll be playing around with it too seeing if other attacks can hit and such
Old news
Apparently, the last two hits of EX airborne Dankuu can connect too, dealing 240 damage and 400 stun. You have to jump back in order to hit the opponent however. And since I’m using a 360 controller, it’s very frustrating to perform.
Man that Sanford match was funny, I do like that corner juggle he was doing. Pretty Crafty! The announcers had me rollin’ about sodium levels.
Good news : Koryuken FADC j.MP works on everyone.
Even better news : it works even if it’s not in the corner. If you land a KRK, you can FADC and then j.MP.
After landing, it puts some distance between you and your opponent. If your opponent doesn’t have good reversals, you can throw EX Dankuu and you’ll reach him (if the Koryuken was kinda close, you can use any other Dankuu and it’ll reach your opponent, but EX Dankuu is still your weapon of choice). If he does have good reversals and loves to abuse them, you can reach him with the last hit of EX Koryuken. He’s out of throw range, though. Also, if the KRK was point blank, you can walk a tiny (tiny !) bit after landing, and you’ll be in range for cr.MK xx EX Dankuu (BURN that meter !), or a sweep (why the hell use Dan’s cr.HK anyway ?).
By the way, I don’t know if it was obvious for everyone, but you have to do a straight upward jump in order for that combo to work.
EDIT : if anyone could check if Koryuken FADC (jump back) EX airborne Dankuu (in the corner of course) works on everyone, it would be great. I have a LOT of trouble doing it on my 360 controller, it’s not worth it if I f*ck it up 99% of the time.
You beat me to the punch, works everywhere is awesome news as it’s free damage!
It’s a weird punch, 75 damage normally but if you catch them with your elbow you only get 25 damage x_x;; I really wish it worked liked Ryu’s j.MP, that’d be awesome, think of the possibilities!
The other good news is you can catch them with it off a Light Kouryuken AA in certain situations, the corner being one of them
Hmm, I wonder if after trading a Koryuken, you can still juggle the opponent ? I won’t go through the trouble of testing it though.
Well if you’re really on the ball a HK Dankuu is the best option in that situation otherwise it’d only work in the corner because they’d fly too far away.
Incidentally a fun (but tricky) combo to do with full bar is:
j.HK > s.HP xx Gadouken xx FADC > s.HP xx Kouryuken xx FADC > v.j.MP
Does 440 damage considering a j.HK > c.MP xx Gadouken xx Hisshou Buraiken does 480 damage it’s not bad
Wait, actual combo news on a SF4 character? This is madness! And it’s really awesome.
Mid-screen, isn’t it still better to do KRK FADC HK Danku?
Yes, it is. Haha, forgot that '^^
KRK FADC HK Dankuu is like impossible to do D:
For some weird reason I’ve only got it to work with the Light Kouryuken version and even then it’s quite random D:
