Dan Improvement Thread!

I love you.

Give him the ability to make heads explode.

He needs the SFA3 lvl 3 super taunt as an ultra, but with every singe attack as a different taunt :3 And ofc he needs to be invincible until the end, so the ultra it self can be used for annoying timeouts XD

Fist of the Dan Star?

In all seriousness:

Ideas for Ultra #2:

  • As mentioned, out of left field, but a 720 air command grab ala Maki might be cool. It has to end with Dan taunting, or stumbling or something.

  • A Shinkuu Gadouken that starts really tiny, and fizzles out quickly, but if it hits or is blocked it grows rapidly in size and hits before fizzling.

  • Dan punches the ground hard, shaking the screen and knocking the enemy down if they’re on the ground and not blocking low. If it hits, Dan runs to the downed opponent, whining and shaking his now damaged hand, and, with his free hand, picks the dude up and beats him down a little. The pose at the end is him nursing the damaged hand.

  • Premium Sign. If it misses or is blocked, no chip. If it hits, GIANT EXPLOSION. :wow:

  • Otako Michi, and it hurts Dan, but only for, say, 75% of his remaining life. It should do a ton of damage like MvC2.

  • Big Angry Nerd’s DAN INSTALL. Powered up big time for a limited time, but when it ends he’s wide open in what will no doubt he an hilarious animation.

Dr. B is so Dr. Benevolent that he wants to see a viable Dan that is no less comedic than before.

Making Dan useless again only means one less viable character to use in the game.

If there was 33 characters in the game or so, then it really means we truly only have 32.

I like how it is now, which ALL the characters are viable and can be used effectively in some form.

There really should be no need for a waste of a character slot in this day in age. It’s just a waste of development effort, when Capcom could easily put the resources in making Dan a worse character, and focused that in actually making another GOOD character.

I think he could use Shin Koryuken (as in a parody of Gouken’s Shin-Shoryuken) in which attempting the move he suddenly trips over his own feet and gives a massive headbutt (unintentionally) to the opponent, while falling over putting too much momentum into his attack. This gives Dan a fairly powerful Ultra while retaining his comical / goofy image.

I’m not sure if this is something Spec’s or Dr. B could agree with…but It’s something to try to improve Dan while retaining his core characteristics.

Then he wont be Dan anymore. Thats the point of Dan, a joke character poking at SNKs Ryo and Robert. Changing that then might as well drop him fromt he roster and put someone viable in there.

Wrong, unlike you Ive been playing with Dan since SFA1.

To be dropped from the SF4 roster and put someone viable in his place.

He can be Dan and viable. Rufus is a giant walking joke, which I love btw, and he’s a perfectly viable competitive character.

Is SF4 Dan, probably his best iteration in a LONG time, suddenly less Dan-ish because he has a solid HP Koryuken, LK Danku, and a pretty decent Ultra? 'Cuz the dude still makes me laugh, I gotsta tell you. As does Rufus.

<Insert whimsical Dr. B reference here because I’ve made a lot today and I’m running out of steam. Make sure to end it with “no homo.” I’m serious; if you quote this post, remove this line and add a Dr. B reference.>

Rufus was never ment to be a joke, hes more of a stereotype. He was created to be a viable player which Capcom suceeded.

Hes fun to play as but this is the main series. Hes pretty bad overall and always has been. I have no problem with him being in other games.

gadouken mad + frames on hit/block (like +5, and if it hits later, its still +5, ex should be the same).
command taunt that functions as a cvs2 style roll, air taunt has no ground recovery
decent normals (shoto style c.MK, sweep not complete ass, just give most of his normals less recovery/startup in general)

oh and stand jab/crouch jab get a slightly larger hitbox, so he can consistently combo the same way after a close MP on every character.

thats really all dan needs

An intentional stereotype. A parody. A… joke, even?

That makes zero sense. The “main series,” the “he has to be bad to be Dan”: none of that means anything. You want him dropped because he’s not viable, you don’t want him buffed because he “wouldn’t be Dan” (even though that makes no sense); you’re dead-ending this discussion with reasons that aren’t justified.

Dr. B goes :arazz: to all the vaginas in de land.

Listen if you don’t like Dan, You don’t HAVE to pick him.

It’s called having a choice. The fact he’s in the game the game means he is there for those that do wish to use him. Just because you don’t use him, don’t condemn others by removing him and taking away that choice for them to use.

The power of choice is a good thing. Not to mention it adds variety to the roster.

The fact that Dan is in the game in-no way prevents you from not using him. It makes no difference if he’s in the game or not to you…you don’t need to use him if you don’t want to.

But still not him being in there prevents others who do wish to do so.

You say its called having a choice, but thats where the main problem lies. He isnt a choice.

How is by having another Shoto clone add variety to the game?

“Dan can’t be good because he’s dan and dan cannot be good” is called circular logic and it’s retarded.

imo if he had better frames on his normals and faster recovery from gadou / no landing frames on air taunt & dan kicks he would be better. also make the dash on his ultra go a weency bit further and let it break armor on non-reversal.

he does good damage and great wakeup pressure, he just can’t get in or chase down zone chars for shit. he doesn’t need to be a shoto clone to be good.

It does to me. Dan is a joke character. Now keep him out of the main series.

Karin would of been a much better fit in that slot and add much better variety found in Shoto Fighter 4.

This wins the thread right here, and I’m not going to continue this pointless dance.

Anywho, here’s a link to some Dan buffs suggested in the SF4 Dan subforum:
http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=184214

^ Strongly recommend that any Capcom reps who happen to be visiting read the above link.

And some blatant self-advertising: my own suggestions from Wiz’s thread:

Dr. B wants all to be buffed. But none can be as Dr. Buff as the B.

That bitch is a fei long rip off with a boring bland character design… we don’t need that blond skank in this installment.

^ I know you’re trying to make a point and all, but Karin’s coo’.

DR. B IS BETTER THAN THE DARK KNIGHT FILM. And that’s hard to top. Why so serious?

And you are just one individual out of the potential hundreds of thousands that play the game.

You do have a choice, you are just being selfish about this. You don’t need to use him if you don’t want to. Him being in the game doesn’t effect your decision to use him any less. You don’t need to use him if you don’t want to.

He is there for those that do, and let’s just leave at that. Besides it was Capcom’s choice to put him in the game, They make the call, since it’s their IP and their creative right to do so. I don’t remember ANY main Street Fighter game (i.e World Warrior to Champion Edition, or New Generation to 2nd Impact) that was a progression that removed characters, but only added. It has been as such for the past 17+ years, I doubt it’s likely to change any time soon.

Doesn’t change the fact any less you don’t need to pick him if you don’t want to.

And I wouldn’t go so far to call Dan a too much of a clone, since Ryu or Ken don’t have a short ranged Fireball, nor the Danku Kyaku, also Ryu or Ken don’t have a Ranbu super.

Dan is as much as a clone to Ryu or Ken, as Gouken is…and we all know enough how much different Gouken plays compared to Ryu or Ken, but perhaps this is bad analogy. I mean even Sakura is considered a shoto and even has variances in her moveset that makes her differentiate from Ryu or Ken.

But I’m agreeing with Specs…I’m finished with this topic.

If you obviously don’t like him, why even bother entering a topic that details the discussion in trying to make him more viable. It’s simply counter productive.

I said all that was needed to be said.
