So there has been a couple of Daigo Vs Challenger matches event… Has he always been that famous in Japan? I always got the impression that generally in Japan there many players that are better/ at least on par with him…
I understand that he’s famous in US for that Evo moment where he made that parry comeback against Justin Wong in Evo… but what actually made him famous in Japan to have all these challengers matches?
It’s the fact that he’s a very high level player at almost all of the SF games he has played, they call him “Kami” for that reason. It’s true that the level of competition in Japan is very high and there are many good players that are on his level. He may not be the best but he’s certainly up there among those people. There’s always something going on if you watch a match of him playing.
Is there a way to see this coming? Honestly, it seems almost unfair how good this mixup is. Either get thrown and eat wakeup mixups, which usually combos into huge damage, or take an EX tatsu which does huge damage, puts you closer to the corner, or can even end up in a corner ultra.
Anyways, thanks for this, the videos have already been posted in a lot of places on the SF4 forums but it’s good it has it’s own thread I suppose.
Those first two Maeda Taison vids are always so sick.
not being a ryu player the option select jump fierce/ex shoryu was new to me. gave it a try in training mode and its really tsrong, ryu just has so many options
Yeah, he’s a good Dictator and I liked his spacing the first couple of games. I guess it just got to him later on as Daigo started steamrolling him after the first 2 matches (almost double perfected after losing one round in a match). He was the only player in this challenge that was not a Grandmaster, but that doesn’t mean much according to Sabin as there are a lot of quality level players in Japan (that aren’t at the Grandmaster rank).
I don’t seriously know what was up with Rikuson. He didn’t manage to take even a round from Daigo. We know Daigo has got this Sagat match-up down, but that set was ridiculous! Watch match 1 of Daigo vs. Rikuson again. Rikuson is actually inserting his credit in the machine while getting combo-raped in the corner with no lube! Fucking hilarious, that was a Beast unleashed moment there!
Pie (the other Sagat), on the other hand, did very well (I’m not sure what the end result was, as it seems Lord Aborigine didn’t have the final deciding match and the set was left at 3-3).
Anybody also notice that Daigo was very aggressive in this entire challenge? Much more so that his usual style and sticking to that Ex-Tatsu mix-up way more than normal.
That is the truth. I’m sorry but this Boxer is the most clutch boxer I’ve ever seen. His reaction ultras were INSANE! I’m not sure what happened to him later on in the set. He seemed to be dominating Daigo the first two matches but then couldn’t seem to seal the victory off. Daigo was amazingly clutch the whole challenge session however, so I don’t know if we can knock on Maeda Taison’s attempt. Nobody was able to take the set from Daigo in this entire challenge.
Kindevu is a motherfucking beast, there is no other way to put it. That Rufus pressure was hype…I honestly was sure he was going to take it but Daigo clutched it out in game 7.
You’ve won the first round, but your opponent comes out strong in the second and soon you find yourself with only a few pixels of life left and your opponent with almost full health. You have most if not all of your super meter.
Most People: Man, this round sucked. Ok, I’ll save my meter and come back strong in the third.
Daigo: I’ma win this shit. Here and now. No round three.
