See, socialism doesn’t look so bad once you realize it means free healthcare. Or, well, almost free in that I still have to pay until I reach a cap of roughly 150 bucks in a year. And that covers both actual healthcare and mental care, so my shrink is basically free for the rest of the year after a few sessions as long as it’s one at a hospital rather than a privately practicing psychiatrist.
Also, patent law gone nuts. Seriously, it was introduced as a way to make research worth the cost for companies by giving them exclusivity for a period. It’s become this thing where you can monopolize things that were never meant to be protected by patent because courts have begun interpreting patents far wider than was ever the case before, and patents can be extended for several times as long as was originally intended relatively easily. Even the most hardcore far right conservative market capitalist has to acknowledge that monopolies are bad, and current patent law is basically one small step from court sanctioned monopoly. This is particularly disgusting when it comes to non-elective healthcare. I agree that it’s important for pharmaceutical companies to make a healthy profit and to incentivize them to research new drugs, but the way it turned out is we have big pharma charging exhorbitant prices for shit you need to live. Also, shady as fuck deals between phamaceutical reps and hospitals.
Then again, maybe it’s just my pseudo-commie government indoctrination speaking. After all, I’m okay with 30% of my earnings going to income tax. If we actually add other fees on top of that, I’m basically giving away half my income to the gubmint.
Sorry I haven’t donated yet. I should be getting my new card in the mail this week (or early next week). I have a lower credit limit atm though so I’ll donate $300 this month and the other promised $300 next month.
