Cvs2 team formation: discussion/suggestions, etc

It takes a lot of work to win with Morrigan, I’d recommend using her only if you’re very experienced with the game.
I always use Vega & Mai as battery.
I’ve tried using Honda as battery too, not too bad at all but C-Honda is better IMO.
Ryu & Ken could go in either battery or user spot.
Blanka, Hibiki & Cammy could go in any spot.

i still think N-honda is really good, but i don’t have the competition to develop good habits with him. also, i don’t see the point in arguing how good i think a character is anymore, for many reasons.

buk- you’ve listed a lot of mai’s strengths, but what are her glaring weaknesses that put her at about mid-tier?

One thing in N-Honda’s favor is that he has a high damage lvl 1 super. I haven’t tested whether it is easily linked, but 3000 dmg from a lvl 1 is nice.

If you’re really good you can do The Mago Special:

-RC Hands, c.HP xx Super

I’m pretty sure it combos at lvl 2/3, not sure about lvl 1 (at least I don’t recall Mago ever finishing that combo w/ a lvl 1 super).

to be fair, i think n-honda is tied for 2nd best with a-honda. a-honda gets the ability to punish big mistakes without a charge, n-honda gets strong guard crushing ability with low jump rh, and run -> rc grab. low jump rh also improves n-hondas defense, as it helps make honda less predictable

to be honest, im not really sure why mai isn’t ranked higher, other than she’s still being developed. the more i learn about her, the better she seems

some weaknesses:

  • besides the fireball, short range (except with standing fierce against sagat, which he can’t crouch)
  • low roundhouse is a risky and difficult whiff punisher against chars that outrange her, making it more difficult for her to beat zoning-type strategies
  • doesn’t even have the possibility of whiff punish -> super (except against sagat)
  • iffy, mostly non-threatening anti-airs
  • mediocre damage
  • no verifiable, non-super combos outside of point blank range

so basically, short range and lack of damage opportunities

sounds like SNKGalz Syndrome… or SNK Galz Panic! (benimaru included)
mai has some pretty decent fights… I think very few have taken her seriously since eddie lee got mopped up by choi at evo2k2.

How about far s.LP? Is it a decent poke? It looks fairly safe to me, I’m not sure how good it is in terms of priority, though.

Is RC Ryu En Bu any good at all as anti-air?

So with the advent of a really good working Dreamcast emulator, and my CvS2 disc, I’ve had quite alot of time messing around with the game farther. S-Groove is REALLY REALLY fun.

Right now I’m messing with S-Haoh, Ryu, Bison. I don’t remember how much fun I’ve had in practice mode for awhile now.

s-groove is the sex. although, i wish s-groove had the roll of the CvS1 snk-groove. along with ken’s snk-groove multi-shoryureppa juggle from the same game.

it’s just a sad thing that it’s not played as much as the other grooves.

Yeah, I’ve often wondered if I could create an S-groove team that is a transformed N-groove team.

I’d love to do something like:

S- Kyo/Rugal/R2 Chun

Oh the lvl1 inhumanity.

Rugal would be dope at critical mode, if you could land into super. Don’t know about S-Kyo though, S-Chun could work I suppose.

decent char’s with abusable super(s) in s: sagat, ryu, sak, mai, and athena (athena is kinda boring to me)… bison’s kick super is pretty abusable too. s-yama and cammy are pretty good and they don’t even need super…lol also try s-guile… do dodge counter with punch and cancel into sonic boom when opponent jumps in at you <— really annoying…lol s-eagle, ken, chun, and iori are all fun char’s to mess around~ imo…

so I’m developing a more competition worthy team. I know I’m going to use 3 of the following:

C - Guile, Sagat, Kyo, Blanka

Currently I’m trying:

C-Guile/Sagat/R2-Kyo
C-Guile/Sagat/R2-Blanka
C-Kyo/Sagat/R2-Blanka

Which of these 3 teams do you recommend the most? I like Kyo’s lvl2’s, but I’m still getting his ground game down. Ive got Guile AA done pretty well, but can’t always link into his lvl2, so I really don’t want to anchor him. I like Blanka, but am pretty much a newb with him right now, so that will be a lot of work, but I’m willing to do it. Any thoughts?

Opening with Guile is great. My best character is arguably Guile, yet I always find myself playing him at my first, just because he can do SO much without meter.

I recommend Guile/Sagat/Blanka, but switch Sagat with Blanka and give him the R2. Sagat’s already powerful stamina and damage get a huge boost, and he has some of the most damaging and easiest to use Level 2 cancels in the game. Sagat as an anchor is incredible, he’s pretty much THE anchor character of C-Groove, unlike A-Groove where it could go between Claw, Sak, Blanka, and Dic.

Sagat’s lvl2’s are one of the reasons I like him for User. Giving Blanka meter just seems like kind of a waste. I understand the Anchoring Sagat vs anchoring Blanka arguments and such. It’s bascialy just my personal preference to put him center, and that probably not gonna change.
