I wanted to buy a hori pad for my PS2 to help fuel my horrible fighting game addiction. It doesn’t look like they make the ps2 ones anymore, and I was always a little skeptical as to how good they really are, so I checked here to see if there were any alternatives that interested me, and now I’m hooked on the idea of making a custom stick.

So basically I can take an old pad, Like a barely used playstation 1 no analog controller, pull out the pcb and just solder buttons and a stick to it?

Will it actually function correctly, like have that arcade stick feel?

I’m playing alot of japanese shooters as well, so I definately want a sanwa setup. What should I be looking for, and where can I buy this stuff?

…Last question… how difficult are we talking in regards to making a stick with cross compatability, like xbox, ps2, pc? The deal is this is a project I can totally tackle, I’m fairly handy and I think I can make lots of these.

Thanks, and please excuse the ammount of questions, I’m kind of pumped to get this project started

jesus… ><

Surely there is someone here selling a quality custom-made sanwa for PS2. I would recommend that over attempting to build one yourself.

I’m reading through all the custom stick threads now… as for buying one, I’m more interested in building one then buying, because I enjoy building things

Gotta have the proper tools for the woodwork. Being able to cut with saws, measuring the correct sizes, cutting holes for the buttons and stick, etc.

Then theres the whole hacking of the PS1 PCB process. Looks like a lot of work. I’d recommend asking stick builders on the forum, like paintedpale to name one, for tips on all that.

stop trying to intimidate him

deinbeck all the information you’ll need is in the link and dont be afraid to ask in those threads if you have any questions

buying a custom stick is nice but theres nothing like the satisfaction that thats your stick your gaming on.

Not trying to intimidate, just attempting to describe the kind of work and tools necessary, that making your own stick would require.

I actually have a table saw and all that, drill press… etc etc. If that stuff isn’t up to par, my GF’s dad = highschool shop teacher. I can probably just pop over there after schools out and use that stuff

As for the pad, it looked about as complicated as soldering wires from the pad contacts and running them to the stick and buttons. That’s what I’m wondering. I see people call it hacking the pad, but if by hacking you just mean pulling wires off of it, man thats a breeze. Try pulling wires off of the optical drive points on a PS2 main board if you want a challenge

If your into japanes shooters I hear semitsu sticks are better for shumps than sanwas.
