Curious to know about general impressions of Decapre at this point

@xHitoKiri‌ i can do it but later, i have to go now :stuck_out_tongue:

far hp da god

If we start doing that then it’ll just turn into a “here’s a list of stuff to patch” complaint-thread, with half of the “weaknesses” just being normal things that players need to learn about through experience.

What the heck, let’s try to make a list anyway and be done with it.

Good:
-damage, especially punishes
-corner carry combos
-mobile
-good meter build
-solid pokes
-the two above can be combined into good red focus combos
-U2 da god

Bad:
-anti-air is finicky
-if you’ve never played a hands character before then there will be a minor learning process before you can do it properly
-my stomp just got blocked what the hell
-man, and now I just got punished, and died because she has substandard health, that’s why I lost
-how do you hands? I still can’t do it, I swear I’m doing it right
-woah Yun is OP, have you played her against this guy? All of her moves don’t work
-alright, I got hands by pressing lp a bunch into hands when they block but then Ken just DPs, this move sucks
-she literally has no wakeup game because it’s pretty obvious what side stomp is going to be on, and once the opponent realizes that all she has is stomp to surprise them then it’s basically an advantage for them to get knocked down
-when you focus a jumpin, the focus release might miss, obvious major flaw
-anything you use to move around the screen (scramble, air arrow, jumpin) can all be countered stupid character

Obviously D+ tier.

I stand firm in saying that the only thing she REALLY needs is another overhead (EX Cannon Strike). I would also take more throw range but I can understand why it is how it is. Her anti-airs and unsafe moves and slow scramble can all be worked with and are pretty fair IMO.

i dunno man, feels like it trades more often than not. do you think it’s great in general or do you have any specific matchups in mind?

It never trades for me. It either beats it or loses. It does not work againts “pointy” jumpins like chun j.hk, vega jumpins, sakura j.hk ++

The timing you use it is not like other anti airs. I am really looking forward to see the hit and hurtboxes on that move.

i think this character is very high tier prob top 10 but not top 5

st fp is a far anti air, you are probably standing too close
imo its on the same level of guile’s st fp - duff city
really hard to lvl 2 , one of the best pokes in the game

doesnt really matter if the character is top tier or not its a matter of can you actually play all the matchups without getting completely pooped on, answer is yes. that in my opinion makes the cahracter worth learning.

cammy i would say is better because of the fact you dont need to charge, i think decap is just better suited to people who like cammy but want to play mroe defensively but still have good options to poke and trap and GO IN

also walk speed is much more important to throwing ability than range is, i would not say he throw game is bad at all id say its one of the best in the game, the fact you can use the same sequence to combo and frame trap is godlike (lp, st fp)

After using her for quite a while, I feel that ultimately she’s a flawed character. She’s fun and interesting, but I’d be extremely surprised to see her do well in tournaments or be mained by a top player. And even though she can deal out decent damage SOMETIMES, she’s more of a character that nips at your heels, but I think at this point it’s pretty clear that Capcom believes that the best characters deal serious damage every time they touch you, or they’re just incredibly well rounded – no serious flaws. I believe she does lots of things sort of ok, but again, the top characters do one thing or a few things exceptionally well. And execution wise, I think she’s up there: I’m convinced that Combofiend was smoking crack when he said that Decapre is a good starter character for beginners. She’s got all the complexity and execution demands of C. Viper without the constant pressure, mixups, or massive damage. Finally the level of difficulty against top level grappler players is unreasonable.

top tier

Yeah top tier of the scrub league. She’s got too many bad match ups to be top tier.

What match ups in your opinion are bad for her? “too many” is suspect here…

I’m finding scrambles kinda useless as I get better and get higher to playing better players. I feel her EX versions of all scrambles need to be better. Right now they are all pretty much useless and very predictable. Maybe the people I’m playing against who are Decapre are doing it wrong, maybe I’m doing it wrong, but they don’t seem worth wasting a bar on. The only benefit is the mixup potential, but seeing as how most can stick out a limb and trade with anything you do, still isn’t worth it to me. I tend to get knocked out of EX scrambles with guys mashing jab.

lol just lol

My numbers on matchup for dekappa:

this char is rly good, yall r just bad

(non ex) spiral arrow beats everything except jump and focus and block. ex spiral arrow is actually good on block.
you have great focus breaking tools (hands, mp-hp, ex scramble break if they are too focus happy)
good walk speed. fast normals. mash psycho sting through strings because it is easy to do compared to a motion.
gdlk jump in HK for closing distance.

she’s a lame character. after infiltration chun lost to velociraptor gouken at evo, infiltration got the runback 2-0 with decapre. bunch of time outs.

if they are hitting you out of scrambles, then don’t scramble. walk.
her only bad matchups are those where she gets outlamed and their defense is solid vs walking forward/jumping in. bison balrog gief. maybe rose. you can run ultra1 to force situations here, but those are her weak points.

Legit question, how can you mash a charge move?

To many wannabe dekappa’s trying to mix up all day with her when she’s best played as a footsies character with a slight bias toward offense. Apply safe pressure, bait and punish.

The more I play her the more flaws I see, but I think she has solid normals to get by. Scramble options are not great. Ground slam unsafe and dive kick is negative if not hit low, cannon drill gets raped by focus.

you don’t mash in the sense that you attempt multiple reversals at once, you mash in the sense that you do it quickly while blocking and then return to blocking just in case they didn’t string a low in there. a better way to put it would be to say “guess psycho sting through strings” but guessing is a term i use to annoy people with.
