hey everyone, i’m not gonna RSVP since i’ll be busy, i just wanted to ask something.

so, it seems that this tournament will be dope, as really high caliber players are registering (and traveling long distances), and there’s only 64 spots, so each win/loss will be very visible, especially with the stream so no doubt it’ll be exciting to watch. what i’m curious about, is why is it so cheap to enter? like, just $10? really? i understand that that price is standard for majors and local tournaments, but this is neither a major nor a local tournament.

i was doing some math, and so you have $500 bonus pot. that plus 640 in entry fees. that means the payout is:

1st-$684
2nd-$228
3rd-$45.60
4th-8th, doesn’t really matter

in this day and age, when you literally have professional, sponsored players participating in these things, intuitively i would just think more money should be involved. Of course, i realize most people aren’t sponsored, but all the dudes from socal and norcal are going to be investing i would say, at least upwards of 100 dollars just to get to this tournament. taking that into consideration, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to have, lets say, a $25 dollar entry fee. Then, the prizes would look like this:

1st- $1260
2nd-$420
3rd-$84
4th-$42
5th-$42
and the rest kinda don’t matter as well. But still, that’s a nice chunk of change, even for 2nd. I guess my main point is, if dedicated players are going to go through the trouble of transporting themselves to an exclusive event such as this, a $10 entry just feels kinda unsubstantial. but maybe i sound like an idiot and should stop talking. opinions?

I’m down for this if i can find a ride

Thanks for your suggestion.

This is not a major tournament like you said and we wanted it to be affordable for everybody while attractive to top players. 1st and 2nd place make more money than most people do in an 8 hour shift and it only costs them $15 bucks. We’re not the NBA =)

Besides, we took into consideration that players will be saving up for WCW3 which is before this event. That would = $30bucks for WCW3 if you pre-regged on time + $15 bucks for Crossroads. So $45 bucks to spend in a span of 2 weekends just on registration fees alone.

Last, not all gamers come out for the money. They just want to enjoy good competition. :wgrin:

to be very blunt, it is up to the tournament organizers to decide on prize pot, entry fee, and other logistics.

as someone who ran tournaments before, someone who claims not to even plan to enter the tournament but wanna have some type of say in how to run it, is at the very least, pretty fucking annoying.

whether or not alex shares the same sentiments as me, i don’t really think it’s your place to suggest something as substantial as adjusting the prize pot, david kong. i’m not trying to be mean or elitist in any way, that’s just my two cents.
