Hey guys, was just playing some training mode against AI to practice some combos and I found out something extremely interesting.

I was doing a standard blockstring on the dummy (Ryu in this case) and obviously mid blockstring he activated super. Now, I thought I will just mash uppercut, happens all the time, can’t be bothered etc etc.

What happened was the cr.mp didn’t connect but the animation was fully out as in, in it’s active frames, so I expected a trade, but it didn’t, the animation just cancelled to a dp.

Tested it a couple of times by doing meaty cr.mp and having the opponent wake up with ultra etc and it always cancels.

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this happen, because it looks like a more useless version of Akuma’s sweep cancel.

the first frame of any normal move can be canceled into a special ora throw, thats a kara-cancel. Maybe thats what you saw? Or the c.mp just finished and the dp came out after it, the move is pretty fast, who never whiffed a c.mp and got a buffered special coming out due negative edge?

I would guess that you’re forgetting that when an attack hits or his blocked, there is “hit pause.” It adds extra frames to the move that aren’t there when the attack whiffs. Watch how fast you can link c.mps when they don’t hit anything. It’s almost twice as fast.
