CPU as a valid opponent to train against?

Hey Planisphaerium, don’t be discouraged from using arcade mode to practice combos. I use it as my last method of practicing a new combo, training mode or challenge mode being first. You’ll definitely get better using the CPU, if you can’t do a combo against the cpu, how do you expect to do it against a human being. Just don’t practice things like footsies, block strings, tick throws and other concepts like that against the cpu. Also make sure you set it the hardest difficulty and seven rounds. Using this method also gives you a chance to see which combo works and doesn’t work on certain characters. I sucked at one point doing FADC > Ultra, I could never do it against a human, but once I started practicing to doing it against the cpu to get the in-game pressure, I haven’t had any problems pulling it off on humans.

master of da fist, the thing that im worried about learning is picking up bad habits without even trying. like worrying about lag spikes in the middle of DP FADC into ultra (Ryu) or other combos. Screws with your game something fierce. Dont think it would have to much of an effect while playing someone at an arcade machine though. sigh Gotta drag my arse to the ‘local’ (hour and a half away) arcade and learn to play some proper (lag free) sfiv. Damn convient yet sometime laggy xbox live!

This new way of training is looking promising though. Been trying it out with the combo, c.sk, c.jp, c.hp into hurricane kick alot as well as other combos with other characters. Just gotta test it out when I get xbox live again or travel to the fucken arcade.

+1 for training against cpu, nothing wrong with that as long as it’s for execution, hitconfirm etc, and not strategy, mindgames etc.

If you set block at random to practice hitconfirm-bnb, why not do it on a randomly moving target? Practice that you have to catch the opponent and be ready for other things.

everything has been said in this thread, pros n cons

I benefited from training combos on the cpu. I would pull them off w/o a hitch in training mode but when it came to a match setting would have some problems. Trying them on the cpu helped me transition it to a live opponent. I continue to do this, learn a new combo in training room till i get it down pat, then pull it off in a match setting against the cpu consistently before i feel confident with it.

neemo6, you just about wrapped it up and as Trolle DK said, “everything has been said in this thread, pros n cons”. Thanks alot for contributing everyone.
