Fuck y’all. kinkos is boss. 2 separate printed laminated stick arts for < $5. How is that expensive?
Good thing the one i go to has guys working there who could care less about anything they print.
Even if they say they cant print it, you can come up with stories for them to print it. Just say its a sample you are sending to the stick company for possible graphic work. Some places if you tell them its a one off print job for a personal arcade stick they may still print it.
I doubt capcom will spend the time and money in lawyers to go after a kinkos for printing a one off art for a arcade stick. Now if you printed 500 to sell on ebay, thats cause for problems and kinkos wont get hit. The seller who is selling them will.
except on the self service machines the customers have to accept a copywrite form saying that the images that they’re making are copywrited bla bla bla.
Well at walgreens anyway, not sure if kinko’s shows the same legal form prior to them doing anything.
i did my stuff online and had them printed at the local kinkos and they didnt say anything. well the guy asked me if it was for school. I was like naww it’s for personal use. He liked the design tho. Said “this shit is tight, did you do this?” I told him naw someone on SRK did the work and I got it off the SE/TE Template page and it’s for a joystick overlay I’m doing. I didn’t fill out any forms. I already paid it with my cc online and all I had to do was wait for the print and walk out. I actually did two prints, one with One character and it had logos and one with the full sf4 cast and logos. Their bosses were there and didn’t say anything. I’m just wondering if I could do this a second time. I haven’t been back there for a while.
Yeah, there are copyright signs posted around the store. It’s implied, but the employees can’t do much about it if they can’t see what’s being copied.
Where I worked it was kind of a ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ type of thing.
So lately I’ve been having probs with Kinkos not accepting templates so I just go my local office max to get stuff printed there w/o hassle. I have a question though. I was planning to change the artwork on my SE stick. I know I can just print it at home or better yet at office max, but does kinkos care about copyright if you bring in already printed material just to put it in a lami-label?
What I did was send it online to be print, and I payed for it online. They aren’t going to reject a sale if you have already paid for it…
^good shit! I’m gonna go try that out. Too bad all of the employees at my nearest kinkos are all bitches.
They could still cancel it and refund your money.
I bet you they won’t, they need to hit their numbers in web sales as well. They didn’t cancel mine…
when you send it through their webshop, PDF is a good format to send it with? Is there options such as paper type and lami-label? thanks in advance.
Just wondering but if you are making template for your own stick doesn’t it fall into “allowed usage” part of law ? Or you don’t have paragraph like that in us copyright law ?
For some reason this made me LOL.
The issue with copying a template is that Kinkos can’t verify the license on that template (which is presumably public domain, CC or just a general allowance). Without verification of the license, Kinkos is liable (though supposedly there’s a waiver form the customer can sign claiming responsibility from Kinkos.) We do have a “fair use” defense in the US but it’s just that, a defense, and is also a affirmative defense – you have to prove something was fair use – and it follows a non-scientific set of guidelines (generally an elephant test). (And printing or making fan-art of a copyrighted character isn’t necessarily fair use in the US even when for a non-commercial purpose because it is not sufficiently transformative nor is it generally parody or educational.)
