I love AE, nerf guile, nerf balrog, nerf bison just =D me being a dudley main and all. I’m so buying AE before it even hits the shelves! such a dream come true. I love capcom now.

Don’t forget that there are a handful of matchups where the character doesn’t play footsies, or rather their footsies aren’t rog footsies, C. Viper and Fuerte come to mind.

Balrog is definitley not the same at all in AE. He feels alot weaker just in general and his headbutt recovery seems worst than dragon punches, enough for opponents who have slow reflexes to get free ultra. His j.fp definitley got nerfed with the range and it wiffs alot during my tests. The zangief match got harder especially now that the green hand doesnt knock you down. It will just push you back but enough range to command grab or even ultra. The only choices i see in this situation is hb hoping they dont block, back dash hoping they dont do another green hand hence leaving you open again, or neutral jump hoping they dont lariat. I dont know any other ways to get out this situation, but if anyone could add their input that would be great.

Overall im not happy with the changes but its definitly stepping up our defense tactics.Regardless i will stick with Balrog since he’s just a cool character :smiley:

Something has definitely been done to his EX rush upper
I used to use this on wakeup frequently to get out of mixups and if a crouching opponent stuck out a normal it would almost always tag them. Not anymore. Now it wiffs and you eat a big punish.

He just feels slower and clunkier overall as well. Neutered is the word I would use to describe it.

ex.ru will whiff on most crouching attacks, ex.ds will whiff on moves that low profile (e.g. makoto ex.oroshi, ken cr.mk). ex.dl and ex.smash will catch attacks that low profile. AFAIK absolutely nothing has changed with the properties for his ex.dashes ex.ru/ex.ds still have sub 4fsu against meaty attacks, etc.

I just finished going through the whole frame data comparin vanilla Rog to AE, here’s what I found (besides what got mentioned by me in the previous post):

cs.MP damage lowered from 80 to 70, on hit buffed from +1 to +4
Jump forward HP dmg lowered from 110 to 100
Forward throw dmg lowered from 140 to 130
Back throw dmg lowered from 140 to 130, stun lowered from 140 to 100
Dash Ground Straight EX made more safe on block from -4 to -3
Dash Ground Smash EX made more unsafe on block from -1 to -3
Bufallo Headbutt recovery frames increased from 23-24 to 32
Ultra (lvl2) dmg lowered from 519 to 491

That’s only the nerfs from frame data, there should be hit box changes and move property changes too. Oh and wow, forward throw is 160 stun and back only 100.

Yeah, some of those nerfs were from Vanilla -> Super, but it is still sad to see. Rog is still a good character, but from a character design perspective all those nerfs don’t make a lot sense.

Alot of the nerfs where system wide though, in general, the only nerf that really changed rog as a character was the extra recovery on headbutt. You could wager that some of the damage nerfs changed him as a character as well (since there are much fewer stun nerfs to his moveset). But in general you can play him like Vanilla and still get the same result although it’ll take a tad bit longer.

I feel like there’s much more emphasis on learning the 1-frame links with Balrog now (cr.LP to cr.MP, cs.HK to cr.MP, cr.LK to cr.LP). I was watching some ice0age videos and he’s a beast at those links, Rog’s much more damaging if you can consistently pull those off.

someone pleeease test out the nerfed recovery on EX smash (use ryu’s super and see if rog can block on recovery).

Ryu can shoryu or punish with a super Rog’s EX-Smash. Tested it.

Damn. I relied on EX Smash a lot to get in on chun li and ryu. that’s a huge nerf imo.

Screw capcom, the nerfs announced wasnt enough seriously?.. Last night, I was completly surprised by being punished with Ken HP dp after a Ex dash smash. WTF!! It was the perfect move to punish focus or get close…
How can you be offensive with all this bs now? I dont play a turtle balrog, I always go forward with him, I dont want a fight last 99 secs.
It was already frustrating to fight against campers (mostly all the opponents I meet btw) but now, it’s so fucking difficult to kill someone. Im dropping it.

Oh man just played a lot of AE with Rog today and headbutt damage and recovery is really noticeable. Is there any point in using jabs and shorts to hit confirm into headbutt anymore, since it does the same damage as a dash straight? 100 each. I guess to get the knockdown is all I can think of.
