Computer Help Thread v4.0

That actually sounds like a motherboard problem. You could have gotten another bad one, possibly. Or your processor could be damaging it.

Like the post below you said, try using “Add/Remove Programs” in the Control panel. It usually can determine if the software has been removed from underneath it and remove the registry info that is related to uninstallation.

Check in the BIOS. It may say it there. You might even be able to catch it when it lists devices during enumeration on boot-up. If not check the Motherboard manufacturer’s site for BIOS revisions. It is probably upgradeable to 1.2 and you might even have that version already installed. Are you sure it’s not 2.0? That’s fairly old and it’s reverse compatible with 1.x

My PC is from 2001…Is there a Way to get 2.0

you can buy a PCI card that has USB2.0 ports. They are easily accessible and don’t cost a whole lot of money. You just have to be willing to open up your computer and install it.

USB 2.0 came out in April 2000. What make is your motherboard? That’s truly the easiest way to tell.

Dell Dimention 4300…

Windows XP Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
P4 CPU 1400MHz
1.40 GHz, 256 MB of RAM

Does that help

Did a half ass search and saw USB 1.x on Google.

You should do as RXS suggested and pick up a USB card.

That system was USB 1.0. You can get the PCI card that was mentioned earlier, though.

Ahhh see that’s the problem… I cannot use the old computer right now because I have it won’t charge and my AC cord is dead. That’s why I bought a new one.

It doesn’t make sense to me because my wife made the file (:wonder:) on my desktop back at home. She still has the file and she also made me a quick like 2 second .AVI so I could see if that one works either. It didn’t work but it gave me a bigger problem message. When I try to play it in WMP Classic, this is what it says:

" Media Player Classic could not render some of the pins in the graph, you may not have the needed codecs or filters on the system.

The following pin(s) failed to find a connectable filter:
C:\Users\Anton\AppData\Local\Temp\Video 1-1.avi::qc2.avi Video #1 0"

then all of the tech mumbo jumbo:

So what can I tell my wife to do to reencode? Or can I do it from here? Maybe the problem is with my desktop at home (which is about 3 years old), and maybe she can fix it there?

Oh and thanks for your input. I know very little about tech stuff!

EDIT: Oh and Preppy what I don’t understand is that I went to free-codecs and downloaded Indeo 5 codec, which didn’t make the file play. Do you think that the one I would pay for would be any different?

i tried helping pozer wolf last night via AIM… it’s not that simple… for some reason, his direct x isn’t being detected correctly and the installer for oblivion isn’t installing right. he gets an error about a missing DX dll file, and then the installer freezes right before it says “finish”

I just got a new computer and put iTunes on it. I know that if I connect my iPod to it it will erase all my music. Any way to save my music?

It will only delete your music if you have iTunes set up to automatically sync. There are programs out there that can be used to rip the music off your iPod onto your new PC.

another reason why iPods are retarded.

Fixed.

My 4th Gen 'pod and nano work great and I haven’t opened up iTunes to use it once.

I’m going to check bestbuy about the PCI Card…

iPods are retarded because you need to go through shit like that. They’re the same price as the rest, sometimes more expensive, and you don’t get some easy shit, like radio and microphone functionality. It’s not much to ask for, but personally, I don’t like paying $20 more for a 1GB shuffle than my 2GB zen, not getting a screen, pictures, video, radio, microphone, half the space, and being fucked by iTunes.

Fuck apple.

You know I <3 you, Mixah. :bgrin: I just wanted to stir the pot with you for the heck of it.

I got my iPods (notice I didn’t say “buy” hehe) knowing damn well what they were and weren’t capable of. My bandwagon-hopping trendwhoring ass just loves the single-task functionality of my iPod. If I wanted an MP3/radio/digital recorder/picture viewer/coffee maker, I would’ve totally bought a Zen.

I WILL agree with you on the whole concept of the Shuffle; the logic is flawed when they were making that thing. I can enable shuffle on my iPod and put a post-it note over the screen and tada: instant iPod Shuffle. :woot:

haha, good shit mang

Hm, thanks, I’m gonna have to try this in my free time. I despise iTunes and almost everyone at my college uses it.

As for the iPod shuffle, I bought one because of the compact size. IIRC, the Zen is clipless and needs a case. But yeah, definitely a whole lot better than iPod. I see them pretty cheap online.

depends on the zen, but yeah, none come with clips. Creative did have this awesome thing at one point with an accessory pack that comes with a clip, kickstand, nylon bag, and plastic frame for $10 if you buy a zen, but i ahven’t seen that in a long time. :frowning:

I just slip my zen into my pocket, or if I don’t have pockets (which is RARE), it’s small and light enough that I can clip it under my watch, or use the lanyard that comes with it.

Thx a ton, I was almost :shake:. I literally owe u huge!
