don’t worry, i’m pretty sure there is a way to recover all that data but i dunno how? sorry.
maybe some of our experts here does know and while waiting for their replies, try googling that.

In the worst-case scenario, even if you accidentally install something that you shouldn’t, you can always just reformat and keep using your computer. Way too many people are under the impression that because they run into some type of software issue, they have to throw out their hardware and buy a new machine.
Don’t go over-the-top with downloads either because trojans can accumulate after a while.
No man, i try my best not to download anything kinky if that’s what you mean. I only download and update the stuff for the comp. I don’t even know if i should even update stuff or install stuff, cuz half of my friends say it’s not safe and the other say i should. i’m confused as heck, so i needed to know by you guys.
BTW, i have this thing called, AVG, i dunno what it is, but it update my comp automatically, is that a good thing?
If it’s AVG Antivirus, then I guess you should update it. If you must use it, then keep it updated. Me personally, I can’t stand that AV software. NOD32 picked up a bunch of crap that AVG never did.
Doesn’t have to be only porn, I’m sure after extensive use of Limewire and all the music I’ve downloaded, my desktop’s been hit with plenty of things.
Alright guys, I have yet another question…this one regarding media. My friend bought a home theater system with a dvd player that can play Divx Avis. I was wanting to watch Infernal Affairs on it, but obviously with the English subs. Problem is, when I try to burn the subtitle files with the movie, the dvd player only reads the Chinese subtitle track, not the English track. I tried embedding the subs onto the movie, but that didnt work either; still just Chinese. The subtitle files are.sub and .idx. Does anyone know a way I can burn it with the English track or somehow split the subtitle files so I can get just the English subs?
Any suggestions for converting AVI media files too WMV or any free FREE media converters?
You generally should be downloading the updates that Windows finds for you. Most of them are at least trying to fix bugs and security holes. I don’t think you really need to worry about getting some kind of malware from them…
thx for all the advice guys. Appreciated!!
Does anyone know any good free video editing software? Thanks
Sorry for going on about this again but I want to clear up this port forwarding business once and for all. A certain person has given me a lot of help on this subject but it’s still a bit hazy and I think it may be my lack of understanding of the devices I’m using (note: I didn’t choose anything being used here).
My setup is the following (tell me if it’s impossible, haha):
Computer I use -> wireless router* -> DSL modem -> phone jack
*Before there was an ethernet cable between the computer and a typical “wireless” router (which was a Linksys WRT54GS). Now there’s no cable connecting my computer to anything and what’s between the computer and the modem is a Realtek RTL8185 54M wireless LAN network adapter (yay! now it’s even more needlessly complicated than before!).
With the Linksys setup I was told to create a static IP address if I didn’t already have one, then forward the port via both devices independently (since the modem apparently behaves like a router also). With this new setup, am I supposed to do the same thing?
Another shitty thing is that the modem (Siemens SpeedStream 4200) appears to be discontinued, and trying to access the configuration menu with both methods that I’ve read (typing speedstream or 10.1.1.1 into the browser) don’t work. The first time the former opened a PDF manual for the device, now it leads me to an error page saying the company has changed the (http://subscriber.communications.siemens.com/subscriber_networks/homenetworking.shtml). The latter just gives me a timeout error.
Ugh, just when I thought I was getting somewhere my faggot brother goes and changes the whole setup with no regard. Thanks for any help on this, but if I’m in over my head just say so.

hope that hepts
The chances are, you’ll need to port forward to your router from your modem and to your pc from your router.
virtualdubmod?
Movie maker?
there is Jumpcut but I never tried it
there should be a few others around
LOL, if you were the one helping me in the IRC channel then I think I sent you that exact link, but I guess I didn’t even read it myself. God I’m horrible. But either way that IP to access it doesn’t seem to work.
Oh so it was you. If you cant access your modem configuration pages through your router, it could be because of different subnets inaccessibility issue. It seemed like your modem was operating on 10.0.0.0/8 and your router on 192.168.something.something/24. If thats the case, you should have been able to connect to your modem’s configuration page when you were connected directly. Its usually located on the same address as your default gateway address.
^^^ 0746, nice av, especially in that stance even with a broken sword but still like aoshi over him though.
A LITTLE BIT OF ADVICE:
to those who does a lot of downloading/surfing and you are concerned of trojans/viruses, i got a an idea for you to protect your computer.
try using an app namely DEEPFREEZE or WINDOWS STEADYSTATE or create cache file that will let your computer in the same set-up everytime you start-up. changes that have been made will be ignored and your original set-up will be restored.
how can it protect your computer?
it prevents changes to your computer that you don’t want or haven’t noticed have been made. it’s like reformatting everytime you restart.
i’m quite busy right now, so any questions regarding this, just post em and i’ll respond as soon as possible.
i justt thought of this question, i was wondering if it’s good to defrag your comp daily? I heard it’s good, but im not sure if i should before hearing you guys opinion first. If there’s anything else im missing like… scan for virus daily, update daily and such, PLZ list them. Thx.
I already announced SteadyState a couple pages back.

Wanderer: my usual routine is everything goes fully-scanned on Sundays. My AV (NOD32), spyware cleaners (Ad-Aware, Bazooka, Spybot, Windows Defender), and then I defrag with O&O Defrag. My work schedule is too hectic/I’m too lazy to keep with it everyday. Shit, you can even enable Windows Task Manager to do it for you whenever you’re away or asleep.
cant i just use the defrag in my comp instead of ono frag? any difference?
