Got a question concerning my new comp.
Would I need a sound card to use a microphone?
I remember the shop I bought the comp saying I do not need a sound card cause my CPU…or motherboard…came with the ability to put speakers in. I didn’t really care about sound inpput, cause my mic was broken anyway, but today I plugged in a new one (bought for cheap though) and it didn’t work.
So yeah. Do I need a sound card for this? Or is it just some messed up configuration or something that I’m missing?

It doesn’t do anything except make your CPU get hot. Keep it running.
No.
That’s called onboard or integrated sound. You have a sound card, except for it being plugged into the motherboard it exists as a built-in part of the motherboard. There should be a connector for speakers/headphones and a microphone on the back of your system. To test your mic. go to Start < Programs < Accessories < Entertainment < Sound Recorder and pres record. If the wave form moves at all when you speak into the mic, then it’s working.
I’m having trouble opening up Windows Explorer…when I do it just hangs there, Is there another way I could check files in my Back Up Drive…
I tried upgrading my computer’s graphics card today to a PNY GeForce9800 GTX, only to find that my power supply is insufficient.
So after monkeying that FUCKING HUGE card into my motherboard , I was forced to remove it and put back in my much smaller Radeon graphics card. Everything is back to normal (as in everything inside the tower was put back in place) and I have updated my graphics card drivers.
Everything appeared to be running smoothly until I realized that my speakers weren’t working.
After going through tedious troubleshooting and finding no solution, I am stumped as to why my speakers, subwoofer, AND headphones are not working.
Could I have damaged my audio hardware from trying to install the card? I can still hear static when I turn my speakers on and off from my subwoofer. My audio files appear to be playing, and the devices all seem to be working properly…
So what gives?
Disregard previous post.
I found that underneath my sound card, a plug had disconnected from my motherboard. This occurred because I had to stretch some of my cables A LOT to get the GeForce card to even fit. I am assuming that this plug was responsible for sending audio signals from my audio devices to my motherboard.
I didn’t delete the post in hopes that maybe someday someone would benefit heh. Unfortunately I drank all of my beer and never caught a buzz because I was so concerned

Don’t you produce, Ton? What kind of card do you have?
After running it for an hour on safe mode w/networking it got too hot and shut off.
Is it possible to extract only 2/3 parts of a winrar file? If so, how?
LOL
No I’m not a music producer. I dunno how anyone ever thought I was.
One day I had to re-boot like 4 time to get it opened for me…I don’t want to format, that’s not good for the drive

It’s really just hanging? Hangs suck to debug.
I don’t know how formats are “not good” for the drive, just use quick formats if you’re worried. My development/testing machines go through tons of formats as we go forward developing the OS and last pretty much forever. (You don’t want to always upgrade.) BUT if you’re putting random software on the box a reformat will only be helpful until the point at which you put that random software on the box again – OR if there’s some hardware/driver breakdown… reformat won’t necessarily help.

Just as a note: doing a normal format checks the drive for bad sectors, and a quick format doesn’t. That’s the difference.

(Assuming this was in Safemode) It’s overheating the CPU, then. That program doesn’t test it more than a normal software workload would. I’d suggest replacing that first. If the problem persists, check out the memory, and then finally mobo.
Na, formatting won’t hurt anything at all. It’s actually worse for it to be fragmented because the drive has to make 10,000,000,000,000,000 spins to get to the data you want, which wears it faster. If explorer is having problems, a re-format/re-install will probably be in order, since Explorer is such an integral part of Windows.
Word. format x:\ -u is a unconditional format, which will ignore any bad sectors. For all my niggas on a budget who can’t afford a new drive! I had to run a 10gig drive for almost a year with bad sectors, marking them every week or so just to keep going until I could afford a new PC. This was on Windows 95.
I don’t really know anything about computers. I have a friend coming over tomorrow to help look at the problem but even though he works with computers for a living I think this is a strange problem.
When I look at this screen I can scroll down to the bottom. Most of the time, however, on pages like google, there will be two screens. So like, where the bottom of the page is (where they have the contact information usually), the page starts again. What I mean is that there are TWO google search bars. I hope that makes sense. I also can’t access my email at hotmail, and sometimes webpages don’t come up despite my connection is fine. If i search in google on internet explorer sometimes a random popup with the search comes up in firefox. Sometimes I still get pop-ups even though I have stopzilla, avg, pop up blocker free on.
I suspect the double vision thing I have going on is a result to the firefox profiles. I wasn’t able to get firefox up for a while so I created another profile. Then I copied the files into the default so I wouldn’t have to get everything again. I may have made an error in that. But I don’t know what to do. I had a friend who took control of my computer remotely and when he saw the double screens he basically told me he’d never seen anything like it.
Has anybody? (and yes I know I suck at computers).
Update (even though I posted this a second ago). My computer works now. I can access websites and my email. I haven’t been able to all weekend. I’m so confused but not complaining.

^ Can you make a screenshot of this? I don’t use the toolbars you are talking about, so I have no clue how they are supposed to behave. But I do think I know how to resolve it for you.
go to START < Firefox < Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode) This will bring up a menu to prompt you to reset it back to default.
Could your friend have connected remotely again and fixed it for you without you knowing?
