snake: what happens when you try to play from nbc.com ?
“system idle process” means “not doing anything”
mog: … how exactly are you “Unable to”?
tahoo: that depends upon the application. generally changing the ProgramFiles directory location midway through your OS installation is a recipe for badness. you can do that though.
video is slow/choppy/out of sync. this is pretty random because it worked fine before. also having trouble playing random videos. maybe its my video card? is there a way to see if my computer is running any hidden/unwanted “script” or something like that ??

Update your video card to its latest drivers. That should do the trick if it still doesnt work after that try to take a vid of it and send it to sysnom@gmail.com last but not least try to update windows from the internet explorer tool bar goto tools then windows update.
Try to download a bigger file then uncheck the box on the downloading prompted labeled close window then download finished then when its dont it will leave the window up and you can choose the folder you wish windows to move it to from temp.
Now if you wish to use another drive for EVERYTHING including downloads and temporary internet files then from the internet explorer tool bar goto Tools , internet options on the general tab goto settings under Temporary Internet files and select ‘move folder’ to change where windows puts all internet files.
This sounds like it has nothing to do with your cable connection. First and foremost in the internet explorer tool bar goto tools then windows update. Although i think vista shoulda have an easier way. Update vista completely then come back and tell us if you have the same problem.
I have tried updating windows updates and downloading the latest flash player. I still am unable to stream…well lemme rephrase. When I go to hulu, if i let it run for a bit, yeah it will stream. However if I wait the same time for a youtube video, it’s like I wait 10 minutes for every 3 seconds. I have never had this problem at home.

Does it happen with all YouTube videos or just some? YouTube is having some serous server-side issues these days as far as I’m aware. So if it’s just happening for some videos, you’re not alone here.

my current trackball (non-wireless logitech trackman wheel) is starting to bite the dust after 3 years; left button is getting less and less responsive and it’s always had a slight and occasional but still annoying issue with the scroll wheel skipping a beat for a few minutes then fixing itself after scrolling it around enough
i’m trying to dig out my warranty info but while i’m at it what are some reccomendations for a replacement? this one’s been good to me and would be only like $30 to buy new from logitech’s site; i’ve looked at kensington’s expert mouse, it looks neato and has 4 buttons + scroll ‘ring’ thingy but at $100 from their site and seeing some mixed reviews i’d really wanna be sure before i spring for that
Man those are expensive! What’s the reason for using a trackball instead of a regular mouse? I had one at work and didn’t like it since it was slow and awkward to use. I also don’t think it’ll alleviate any sort of discomfort that you would normally get from using a mouse.
I use a G5, ran me $50, it’s supposed to be the best mouse to use for fps, and I already got used to using it as my main for my pc. (I used to switch back to the ms mouse

OK i managed to get a webscan from the norton website, scanned my trojans, downloaded the trial and it seems to have zapped all the baddies away. although my computer has been tinkered with. My start menu is blank ( i click on all programs and its empty, but i know its still on my computer ) I try to start aim or firefox but they wont load up. things like that. but internet is running fine, can watch tv shows and stuff like that fine and its running ok with norton in the background.

while we’re at it i think it’s about time to put these shitty call center style headphones (1 earbud + mic) out to pasture so any reccomendations for a fairly good sounding replacement would be grand, obviously not bose
also trackball is because i bought it for my laptop a few years ago (still my primary PC) and it’s grown on me using it since so… yeah

Are you looking for a headset, or just headphones? If you’re looking for a headset, I recommend the Sennheiser PC151, or the steelseries Siberia 51006SS. If you’re looking for just headphones, I still recommend Sennheiser as a brand, and that steelseries Siberia 51006SS’s microphone is hide-able.

just headphone, i don’t have that much use for a mic right now and i could always save these phones for when i might need one
Need help with vista!
Acer Extensa 5420 with vista
straight to the problem. i turned on my laptop last night, it went through the little start microsoft screen, then got to the user logon screen , this one and my mouse wont work, NONE of the keys on the keyboard will work (hence, i cant type my password) the only thing i can do, is press my power button to shut it down. if i hold the power button, it “hard” shuts it off. i tried booting it in SAFE mode, but same thing happens.
so i tried somethin else. restarted, held F8 and advanced boot options popped up, like this except at the top, mine also says “Repair Your Computer” *note that on THIS screen, my keys work just fine. i click on Repair Your Computer.
it then takes me to the “Acer system recovery options” which is full color, regular looking menu. my options are;
Startup repair
system restore
windows complete pc restore
windows memory diagnostic tool
command prompt
i tried startup repair, and it found nothing wrong. i tried the windows memory tool, and it found nothing. ALSO, at this screen, my mouse pad and keyboard work just fine! i tried system restore, but apparently i didnt have any checkpoints.
im at a loss, and i really need to access my laptop. soon.

If you use an external mouse or keyboard plugged into your laptop, does that work?

i just dont get why it would work at the acer repair screen, and not at logon.
ill try then let u know
Need some help here.
I was watching some vids on my laptop (Windows) when all of a sudden the screen went all fuzzy with random lines of colour. Pretty quickly, the whole screen was filled with these vertical lines of colour.
Restarting comp did not help, same result (and I don’t think Windows even boots now).
Thought it was a monitor problem at first, but tried with a different monitor, same result (just different colours for the lines).
…am I fucked?

Have you tried swapping out the video card or using the external video output?
I dunno how to do those things.
I’m not really tech-savvy, and it’s a laptop on top of that.
I asked someone else and it might be a GPU problem, though I’ve no idea how I’d go about fixing that.
