This reminds me of that tourney where they swapped out players like the one jwong got the card can’t remember name of tourney only naming names for reference not to expose people. That’s pretty serious business for something on the calibur of Evo. Even if it was at the pools that’s still pretty messed. Even if it didn’t happen to you it should notify if you see it or not become the white knight! I haven’t read the full rules of Evo to be fair but does it outline who to go to if you see something like this or how to report this? If it doesn’t this should be added into the rules for next year so that people are aware of this so it doesn’t happen again.
I judged 2 and some change pools for AE. It takes about 3-4 times calling “x-player’s” name to realize who the guy is. If someone subs in for someone else, before that, chances are unless you’re one of the 2-3 people i acutally know in the pool i’d never notice. So i can see how that could happen early on. Later on in the brackets, tho it whittles down to only 8 people. by then I’ve called everyone’s names enough to know exactly who everyone is. Now if someone from the very start comes in and subs for someone… that’s a different story. If they win they’d have to have made it all the way thru pools anyway and THEN make it through semi’s. They’d also have to be someone that isnt well known, cause if you’re any good at all locally SOMEONE is going to recognize you. Then if they actually do win or make it far fooling everyone blastin thru brackets, they still cant get paid cause the names wont match the guy that signed up.
I dunno. I didnt see anyone subbing in for anyone in my pools or in anyone else pool. I’m not saying it didn’t happen but even in the worst case scenario, i cant see either people getting away with it for very long or someone not noticing it happening. I will say this tho, as a player if you see an infraction of the rules against you, you’re the #1 guy that needs to say something to someone. If something isn’t adding up ask to see the brackets. The judges cannot hand them to you but they can let you see them. If you spot an error or something off tell ponder, inkblot or wiz about it. i can guarantee that at least one of them is at the main table in the middle at any given time and if they aren’t they will be within 5 minutes. If a judge is playing a match that isnt his and the pool is still running then there’s something wrong. It’s one thing to be running casuals while the brackets are locked up because of the stream station or if the pool got finished 45 minutes early like one of mine did, but if there’s matches that can be played then play them.
That’s just my 2 cents
I would have to disagree. At first, this seems like a reasonable suggestion, but not for “sleeper” players who are very familiar with dominant players. The “sleeper” could look at the bracket after brackets are established and literally buy a position in to what s/he thought to be the easier pool.
Just as I thought, must have overlooked the actual wording on the registration page… but it’s good to know from an official.
Hopefully more players are aware of this for future events, and the players step up for themselves and don’t allow it to happen, that is if the player even knows about it and the bracket organizer doesn’t do it behind the players’ back. I’m sure there’s no way to prevent this from happening all the time, especially with 2k entrants.
i just dont think it happens on the scale that is presumed from now 2 threads about this…can we merge them please mods?
I ran some of the Tekken 6 brackets and I would never do that,I strickly go by the rules and have ran brackets that way for many years.Hope who was in my brackets enjoyed it.
