Marvel is the best fighting game EVER.

That is all.

I play OG Smash and Marvel. I got into it at school b/c nobody was playin Marvel where I was but there was small, competitive Smash scene. I started off as a hater but it just grew on me.

You can’t deny how balanced the original is. Pretty impressive for Nintendo’s first take on the genre. Every character is playable, there are high level technique’s, infinites, rush, turtling. Item play in that game is better than Melee. I can never understand not playing with items though; thats the whole game right there-- adapting instantly to whatever randomness throws at you. I have never played anything with a deeper level of mind games than Smash 64, 4 Life, all items on.

Smash = Marvel Jr.

Smash is a party game. Any SRK’er that takes it seriously and feels he has to defend himself doesn’t. Smash sucks. The end.

That made no sense.

I was talking to one of my smash homeys re: marvel, and he brought up a good point about smash as a “party game”:

I lol’d
So much randomness that you can start to confuse factors outside the game.

marvel=crack

smash=good acid

Lies :tdown:

Overheard last Evo East:

A: "What is that nintendo shit?"
B: “Nah that’s tight, Marvel Jr.”

in regards to Smash 64 set up right next to the back corner marvel spot.

It’s w/e though. I play marvel and smash for different reasons. Marvel for hype and becasue it rewards execution so highly, smash b/c it rewards smart play, adaptation to the environments, and mind games. I don’t wanna add to the flame war, though, so it’s all good.

I have no idea why in the world smash would be called marvel junior. Perhaps because they’re both hella unblanced, have gltiches that translate into high level techniques and are both hard as hell?

Well then, byt that same logic, CvS2 is marvels brother.

:rofl::rofl::rfol::

yeah i guess its flawed logic. it sounded good at the time…

-Most of the Smash tournaments with 100 participants or otherwise noteworthy (EVO, Midwest championship). I didn’t even look for tournaments that had between 25-75 players, if I had to guess I’d pin the number country wide at around 100 different tournaments.

the smash hate is really unfounded, espcially when it gets so many competitors

Idk, Its not that America doesn’t take games seriously. Its just that Marvel isn’t mainstream. Look at Halo and CS. They have been around and will continue to be around because of their originality and their mainstream status. I’ve heard people say watching matches on MLG made them want to practice harder and get better. I bet if people say top players playing Marvel at an event they would be like damn whats that?

I even know people who started playing CS because they say GX3 (Girls Got Game) on MTV playing at the ESWC in Paris. The other thing that drives these games is of course the multi player. Anytime day or night you can sign in on Xbox Live and play as many people of all skill levels as you want. Same with Counter-Strike.

The problem with Marvel is only people in this community REALLY know about it. Alot of new people are just like me and stuck just practicing by myself which gets boring. And playing against the computer gets just as boring even when I do start learning new stuff because its like ok now what? Theres not a ton of Marvel players here. I have to wait till school to play people. If it had multi player for Xbox360 or PS3 that wouldn’t be an issue. I mean I keep hearing people complain about their being lag but if Marvel came out online they would be the first in line to get it just like I would.

A televised Evo and an online version of Marvel… maybe Evo should call out CGI or something. That would tight. I mean I love all the players there and I had fun going but as far as Tekken and all that goes, I’ve seen way crazier stuff on Evo dvds and clips. It would be interesting. :lovin:

idk if I said something someone else said so sorry if I did

Amen Amen.

Theres pretty much only like 5 Marvel players here in Reno who don’t even play anymore so I’m pretty much stuck playing the computer or on training mode. I used to have one friend who played but he didn’t own the game so I eventually just started winning every time and it got boring playing with him.

I’m trying to see if one dude named Koogy would want to start a little revival with me. But other than that, I’ll be moving to Vegas in a couple years so hopefully I can get some competition then!

this is why its good to play multiple game even if you’re mediocre @ them. You can jump between games and try to recruit other players who seem like they might have some talent to play marvel. Other serious players who play different games always have a since of pride and competition. Just be like, “hey, if I beat you 30 times in a row @ your best game, you gotta play some marvel” and draw them in like that.

I started off as a 3s player and I always said marvel was shit garbage and never knew why people played a broken ass game. 2 years later, I don’t play 3s anymore and I play marvel on the regular. Funny how things change.

Yeah!!! :lovin:

To the OP, though I’m really late; come to Planet Zero. Since the StarGate is gone, there’s nowhere else better for fighting games. Everywhere I’ve been to, the controls were always broken.

very insightful. I think you hit the nail on the head.

the thing with most console games like halo and smash borthers is that u can find ppl playing that game anywhere, marvel is old and u have to live in a city with an arcade in order to meet ppl and get into the scene. if ur a newb and u dont know anyone and there is no arcade in ur area, u’ll never be able to play ppl. Even if there used to be an arcade a long while ago and those ppl still got together and someones house and played, u two would never meet up. Playing mavel by urself isn’t fun. Well actually it is fun, but i can only do it for like an hour a day lol. i need to play real ppl. Try finding ppl in ur area on SRK and u can find out where some tournaments are, even if it is far u could probably take the bus for an hour and reach a local tourny. Hopefully

Yeah. I mean personally I’am almost ready to give up on Marvel myself and just stick with Halo and CS for awhile. I wanna get into 3S since I have it for Xbox and possibly get another copy of CvS2 but idk…

TRUTH.
