I’m almost inclined to believe they’re legit because so many people are getting chafed about them already.
I like them more than Gen 5 starters which are still an abomination to me. Even their final forms are a mess, although I’ve admittedly warmed up to Serperior over the years.

I only did that because ingame when you change your skin pigment to black your mom stays the same color. That’s whack, so I made it consistent for story purposes. I’m a stickler for consistency.
