Hello Viper mainers,
At Community Tierlist - overview you can see a brand new dynamic tierlist which is a combined effort of all people on the SRK character forums.
The goal of this web application is to get all people who main a certain character to give their opinion on that character matchups, and then to combine all that data in one overall list.
The idea worked pretty well when performed by the Rose forum (http://shoryuken.com/f277/rose-mis-fortunes-rose-match-up-poll-263465/), most users reached a consensus and Rose got a nice analysis that ranked her around 13th to 17th place, on par with the latest opinions on her by American and Japanese top players.
If all character forums take a small effort to go vote on their character we will get:

[] a community-generated tierlist
[] a cross-matchup view on each matchup (as for example Viper vs Ryu will be ranked both in Viprt view as in Ryu view)
[] and when enough data is provided: a statistical view on contested matchups, on agreed upon matchups and more!

Because this list is open, and inputs are sensitive I took a few measure to get better results:

[*] The extreme votes are removed statistically (10% lowest and 10% highest are discounted)

I know i’m cynical as fuck when it comes to Viper but this is just too funny. That or this is just how sad the Viper community feels about her for real.

this is based on how well i do personally so basically i suck against downback and dumb turtle characters lol
i think shes just one of those characters thats strengths are difficult to express for a matchup list. i do believe she loses alot of matches on paper but if the opponent makes one small mistake, the match can easily swing to her favor with a huge punish.
she reminds me of what beasley said ablout st dictator where her game plan is based on high risk high reward if she guesses right i think. i think thats why even tho we rank her low everyone else kind of ranks her high because of her unpredictable nature and the fact that in sf, u never really get perfect optimal play.

There’s always going to be an exceptional player for a character that makes us think the match up is not to our advantage but truthfully Vega is definitely a favorable match up for us. At the very worse it’s 5-5 nothing lower then that though.
There’s a few match ups I want to change like I think Guile and Sim should be set to 5-5’s instead of 6-4’s. I use to think Deejay was bad but then a huge crop of Deejay’s showed up on Xbox Live and it’s like oh this is how you do the match up.
I also really hate fighting Makoto. She has a bunch of good OS options against Viper and it’s another one of those matches where whoever has momentum wins.

Yes, I know I get to play against Jozhear from time-to-time but it’s not like the match is incredibly skewed in his favor as some people make it out to be. Even if one person does exceptionally well against you doesn’t mean the match up is bad overall. You have to break it down to character specific tools and strategies.
Seriously, if I’m losing a lot to an exceptional Hakan player I’m not going to say the match up is in Hakan’s favor. I’m simply going to place those losses on my lack of skills.

Hmm, well if one person does exceptionally well, doesnt that mean that character has the potential to do that well against urs?
I mean, isnt the tier list based on high level plays that we probably wont really see 90% of the time?

I’ve bumped into a few quite surprisingly. There’s some interesting tactics they use like after a certain scenario they go for the weird special where she does 3 consecutive punches. I think the only option I had was to back dash or block there was too many active frames for a reversal to work and I was still in recovery to counter poke it.
Yes and no.
It shows the potential of the character in the match up but it doesn’t necessarily mean the match up is skewed towards that characters favor. It could be match up unfamiliarity that holds you back, etc… I’m saying that certain match ups can’t be easily dissected or biased by players. Match up charts are saying if 2 players with the same skill level fought using those respective characters this is how it would look in a best of 10 (I think there were some inaccuracies to this statement). Of course, you can really only go by your own personal experiences but if we sat down and said okay here’s the tools of both characters this is what each character can do in the match up to win this is how the other character counters this strat, etc… Then we could probably come up with a more accurate way to analyze and rank the match up.
I mean Lainy puts Makoto vs Viper as 7-3 Makoto’s favor and I’m pretty sure he has some of the most talented Makoto players to play against but 7-3 seems reallllyyy skewed.
